One, understandable perhaps, situation I've encountered with ShrinkDVD is that if the original disc is scratched (no matter how hard I try to clean it) Shrink won't complete the initial reading process... Anyone out there encounter this and/or has a solution?... THanks!
I've had problems copying from my original discs that have scratches on them... Any solutions or similar situations? ShrinkDVD will read it up to a certain point then offer Redundancy error report on the disc... Thanks!
MichaelF1, I think i posted the solution to your prob some where else but here you go.
The software that is really good is 321 dvdx rescue, the back of the box reads
'recovers data from unreadable,corrupt,or defective DVD,DVD R/RW,CD,CD R/RW
Detects corrupted files
Recovers corrupted files
Recovers improperly written data and data errors
works with all common pc and mac disc formats
analyzes the quality and readability of disc
resumes recovery after interruption
provides exam speed/throughness balancing.
1/2 OF it is actaul c**p but in essence it will recover data from scratched discs and back it up to your hard drive. Then you just burn tyhe data to another disc.Only prob i have with this program is yes it does work but if there is a damaged VOB within the disc, this program cant fix it .You will have to de-mux it and then re do it into a new VOB.
Thanks andmerr... Yes I had tried the DVDXRescue but alas it also "froze" on the disc... The thing is that the disc surface doesn't seem to be that bad but it does reflect scratches going in all sorts of directions with some more pronounced than others... I guess it's just one of those discs that is so profoundly scratched (although through the human eye it doesn't seem as bad) that a certain area of the disc information is unreadable enought to deter recovery... Thanks anyway!
I have had errors before, but never just lock up. Do you have a Skip Dr.? I use the $hit out of mine everyime I burn a dvd that doesn't look to clean. Also, if you are trying to do a "Deep Analysis", try to not do one and sometimes it goes through. Peace.
