i like clone , relatively easy to use , dont have to be a brain surgeon to use and you get a very nice clone of your original disc.

Actually I use both. Since Clone DVD wont copy an original DVD I use DVD Shrink to RIP/STRIP/SHRINK the movie. I then burn it with Clone DVD since it is very easy to use.

shrink was just as easy but as long as anydvd is running clone does just great reproducing originals.

Clone reads my dvds in about 27mins copys the files to a temp directory on my harddrive then burns to another disc in roughly 20 mins. This is on a max setting. times vary if you are using alternative speeds.Oh i should point out that my system runs both a dvd burner and a dvd rom so there is no need for the program to ask me to change disks ( i'm just to lazy)

dont just limit yourself to these two programs.
Shortly after posting i was given dvdx copy platinum
to try.SO i had a little play and copied an anime.
i then took both the original and the backup to another person to verify the quality and well he claims he cant see the difference( and he knows what to look for) so maybe all the hype was true and that 321studios has actually got a real winner this time because well dvdx copy express was a lemon and dvdx rescue was a big disappointment

andmerr - How did you get DVD Clone to backup your original? When I try it says it doesnt support copy-protected DVDs. Thanks!

You need AnyDVD to run, it "removes" all protections and clone dvd is able to clone the DVD

One thing about DVD X Copy I don't like is it puts a copyright page at the beginning.

I have heard that DVDXCOPY doesn't allow copying of burned copies. That is gay. I use DVD Shrink and burn with Nero 6. I burn at 2x, even though my burner is rated at 4x. *SONY DRU-510A* Every DVD I burn is perfect. It takes time, but until I know another prog runs without any glitches I am straight. Peace... Stay tru to the old school.

I tried to back up a DVD using Clone DVD 1.3.11.2 with
AnyDVD running in the background. The DVD is read and just as I want to begin to back up the files, I receive this error message: ERROR CREATING
DVD FILES Creation of DVD files was not successful.
Schedular 0 D:/Video_TS/VTS_0.1_1.VOB:23: read error TCSector Reader TCE
Oddly enough, this same error message can also be seen in the film preview window of Clone DVD.
Has anybody else experienced this phenomenon and knows of a solution? Elby was no help at all and Slysoft even worse :-(((

Forget all other methods... Here's the best and most reliable combination: Shrink DVD (with AnyDVD program running on taskbar) THEN burn using CloneDVD... A powerful trio indeed...

@MichaelFl
A good combination indeed - if CloneDVD works properly. Many a forum have I read where the users of Clone DVD (I included) have encountered the following problem: Scheduler O: D:/VIDEO_TS/VIDEO_TS.VOB:32 TC Sector Reader etc....
All support requests on my behalf to elby.ch have gone unanswered. I spent a lot of good money on a software that doesn't work - and the support at elby.ch is no better. I prefer DVD Shrink with Nero 6. Clone DVD is a closed matter for me with no recommendation whatsoever.

jizzie, i still use clone dvd version 1.3.10.1 and anydvd version2.0.0.4 havent updated to the latest versions as these still work very well together and i am not having probs like other people are posting.
Granted there are better programs than this one available, for me it ain't broke so i'm still using it.

I dont know about anyone else but Clone DVD doesnt seem to handle RCE protection very well. DVD Shrink handles it fine. I use DVD Shrink to "shrink" and Clone DVD to burn.

RNF1968,the last couple of times i have skipped using shrink and just done single disc to disc using clone.
The backups are ok.The program has done what it says it does , compression 60%

Hey there fellas... Personally I kind of use these two program together as I first check with DVDShrink to see the compression ration and then decide whether or not to use Clone to keep the menu...
For longer movies CCE is the best... quality is as good as original even if the movie is over 3 hrs long, just amazing.
Just my 0.2 cents.

Question... I went from DVDXCopy to using Shrink, AnyDVD and CloneDVD combined (with wonderful results I might add... no extra ripping & burning time added when compared to DVDXCopy)... My question is; Can anyone tell me if the compression rate on Shrink is degrades the quality of the video to a "worse" level than DVDXCopy? I fail to see any quality difference between them, but since I'm as picky as I can get with quality I'd like to know the ratios of differences if any... BTW I'm running an MSI Board 1 GIG of RAM and a 2200AMDXP CPU... Never an error on any burn save for occasional heavy encryption which AnyDVD handles just fine...

I honestly have not seen any quality differences between the programs. Andmerr, I tried backing up Once Upon A Time In Mexico with Clone DVD, which has RCE protection, and there were issues with the sound. When I used Shrink everything was fine. Have you experienced anything like that?

MichaelFl If you are really that pick then consider using CCE for the best possible quality even though it will take time to complete the task, you can use CCE along with DVD2DVD-R... just perfect.

hi RNF1968, i have not come across the problems that you are getting but given time i think you will nut them out , this is the fun part figuring out why it doesnt work
goodluck
1Adonis4u : well personally i leave all the menus in if possible they dont take up that much space, also i'm located in region 4 and well all the disks i've done so far do fit from 1 disc to the other
