The single disc may be different from the 2 disc set.
Instead of going through all of this you could use DVDFab HD Decrypter and have it done in 18 minutes.
99% of all problems are between the computer and the chair.

Tried it, it took about 35 minutes and it wasn't even done with the initial reading so I stopped it. Oh well, I unpaused decrypter and we'll see how it goes. Thanks for your help!

I had a helluva time with this one - single disc not the 2 disc set.
I tried 3 different pc's and drives using the latest AnyDVD (ripping to hd and w/ CloneDVD), DVDFab and RipIt4Me. All errored out on me - at the same point as glumag.
Updated to AnyDVD's beta - 6.4.5.2 - tried 2 of the same drives as above and still a no go. I then tried another drive I hadn't yet and bingo got it. 14 minutes to rip and burn movie & menu.
So give AnyDVD latest beta a shot with a different drive. That or try movie only which I didn't try but was about to after the numerous failed attempts doing full & movie + menu.
edit: tried doing movie only - all programs gave a disc read error up at vts01_01 this time.

Could people mention the brands and models of their burners that were successful?
I have a Pioneer DVR-212D 1.24 and had NO success. I am going to try an older IDE model I have.

I was able to rip the full disc with dvdfab 5.0.5.0 however the clean up with either vobblanker or fixvts is not working. The resulting file will have functional menu/extras but 4 seconds into the main title the screen goes black and crashes power dvd and nero showtime.
The problem seems to be with navigation from menu to main title. The vobblanker log reports 2 warnings and 100 errors (bad sectors). New releases as of late have had the warning (no navpacks detected outputting blank cell). The navpack warning is usually only in the main title but with vantage point it?s in vts 01 and vts 04 (the 100 mb of FBI warnings in a dozen different languages including Klingon and Sanskrit).
Has anyone been successful in creating a functional full disc rip with dvdfab? If so did you use vob blanker to manually blank certain cells in vts 01/04?
edit: just ripped main movie only to avoid headaces, maybe dvdfab will release a beta sometime soon, untill then screw sony.

I have the 2 disk version and used dvdfab platinum 5.0.4.5 to rip the whole disk. I used fixvts after, the ran it through dvd shrink. Didn't get any errors at all.

I was able to successfully rip and burn the movie using Ripit4me,shrink and imgburn, however, once I tried to watch my backup version on my DVD player, the movie stops and pixellates and eventually will not run. Have any of you who have actually been able to back this movie up actually watched it to see if your copy is a good working copy?
I cant find a copy of anydvd (beta) that doesnt cost money, When I downloaded the latest beta, it now says that my trial period has ended. Heck, now my old copy will not work. Does the beta usually cost money? Am I out of the loop on this?
Any help would be appreciated...

It looks like ripping the movie isn't a problem I did mine with the latest dvdfab. Despite using my usual cleaning methods fixvts or vobblanker I couldn't get past the menu to actually watch the movie.
This movie is loaded with crap that freeware can't handle, it looks like the only successful full disc copies came from an anydvd/clonedvd combo.
As for the anydvd free 21 day trial once its up it?s up, you have to buy the full version after that. If you just want the main movie rip it with dvdfab and there's no extra clean up required.

@jhill1023
Which version of the movie are you doing - the single or the two disc?
The single disc seems to be the one causing the problems.
What media are you using - that may be playing into it also.
Try playing back the disc in the pc or another dvd player & see what happens.

You don't state if you have the one disc or the 2 disc version. If you have the 2 disc version, I have explained what needs to be done if using RipIt4Me on the first page.

Ripped the main movie only today with 5058 beta, no problems.(single disk version on Plextor Px800a). Ran it through FixVTS and burnt the files with ImgBurn. Haven't had the time to watch the finished product yet, but I did a read error scan with Nero Speed and it showed 100% good so I am optimistic.
Edit: Back-up quality was great, no problems.

Hey Guys,
Hope this helps with Vantage Point.
I had the single disc version and ran into the same problems as others with RipIt4Me/DVD Decrypter and DVDShrink. At about 94% complete it would go to about 8% of a file (VTS 14 or something, sorry can't remember) and would start having troubles and cyling the tray. I let it go for 4 hours and it only went to 10% of 95%.
At that point I decided to click STOP in DVD Decrypter. A number of dialog boxes popped up (asking if I was sure, asking if I wanted to delete the incomplete file, etc).
I didn't delete any incomplete files (choose NO). I also was presented with another Dialog box with the buttons RETRY and CANCEL (can't remember what it was asking) but I clicked RETRY a couple of times and it just kept coming back up so I chose CANCEL.
When asked if I wanted to try to re-rip the DVD I said NO. When asked if I still wanted to process the ripped files I chose YES even though that was not the recommended option.
The software processed the files like normal and then loaded it up into DVDShrink. In DVD Shrink I have it set for English only audio tracks and subtitles so all others were already unchecked. I also set the extras to STILL IMAGES to free up some space but to keep the menu intact (Full Disc) and it ended up being 100% (no compression).
DVDShrink did it's job and burnt the DVD. I watched the movie Saturday night and it was perfect without so much as a hiccup.
Hope this helps.
Cheers!

Have you checked your backup for errors? If so what software did you use to check it with?
Much easier solutions have already been established. This movie is no longer a problem.

Quote: This movie is no longer a problem.
Agreed.
Any current version of the programs most typically used (Dvd Fab and Anydvd, respectively) have no issues with this particular title.

I had a very similar problem.
AnyDVD with DVDShrink was too large, even after removing all foreign languages.
So I tried Ripit4Me with AnyDVD 6.4.5.0 and it ripped perfectly fine, except when I tried to play the copy, non of the DVD players would recognize the DVD. Today I tried it with AnyDVD 6.4.5.9 and still no luck.
I've also tried burning with DVDFab Platinum and the same.
I'm using Nero Recode to actually burn to DVD, and I havent heard anyone using this program.
I see that a lot of people have copied this, and there's no doubt that it's possible, but I dont think they were smart enough to check whether the DVD worked in the actual DVD player.
I have plenty of DVDs that are readable on my computer but they will not work on any of my DVD players.
I heard something about burning it slower might help, but I've already wasted a ton of DVDrs trying to copy this DVD.
Can anyone help?
