thanks again to all who helped, seems it was a disc problem yesterday when i was posting.once i know how to use the prog properly for burning it is after working for me,at last i have grasped how to use it, just burn the shrink files manually and thats it,just done that dvd, it must burn the disc, eject it , then start verifyting it a second time, i can live with that . and shrink not auto starting, no worries and thanks again.regards gunnerpa

Keep at it!
It can be confusing at first but the more you do it the easier it will get. Soon you'll want to try different methods and before you know it, you'll do it with your eyes closed.

Got shrink from this site supposed to work with img but only burns with nero .you need to be bill gates to understand the tutorial for both progs. Can i just open the saved file from shrink on hard drive folder in img and in build burn it is that it i dont need to do anything with the file after shrink does its thing. ?
I am using DVD Shrink with Vista 64bit and this is how it works for me using ImgBurn exclusively:
Note: You DO NOT have have go in to Program FilesX86 and set DVD Shrink to compatible mode for XP, because it will NOT open afterwards, just leave it the way it was installed.
Encoding (or Transcoding as a term used for DVD Shrink)
But you do need to do these things first; open DVD Shrink:
1. Edit>Preference>File I/O>Uncheck "Enable Burning with Nero">OK.
2. Create and select destination folder (example: Shrink Backup Folder) on Windows Desktop and 'Backup' your movies to this folder - it should create both an AUDIO_TS and a VIDEO_TS folder, then create a new folder with the movie title name and transfer these two folders to the movie file folder.
Burning...
You need to do these settings in ImgBurn first before you begin:
3. Open ImgBurn>Mode>Build>Output>Device (this should recognize your drive instead of ISO files. Select the 'yellow folder' (browse for a folder) above the Red 'X' next to the plain box. Choose the file where you kept the encoded movies, choose the actual movie folder>OK>Click on the round DVD logo below it (this should be enabled if there is a blank media inside, but greyed-out if there isn't any) and follow the directions to hit 'OK' and it should start burning.
If you are using a laptop burner, you'll have to monitor the drive because it will pop out in a few minutes (depending on the speed of the media) and close it back and hit "OK" instructed by a pop-up box for finalizing. If you are using a desktop, you don't have to do a thing.
The files saved on your Windows 'desktop' can be used for burning via ImgBurn as much times as you like, unlike with DVD Shrink via Nero, you'll have to go through a whole new process of backing up again if you want to burn the same title to a disc - which is a waste of time.

The only time it opens/closes for me (XP) is if 'Verify' is ticked.

I haven't used it for data yet, but I believe you open IMG and select the "write files/folders to disc" option.

ok heres the closing on this subject from me. i found the prog does this to check the disc has burned properly,it seems it does this on laptops, but also does it on my hp external burner, apparently the settings are in tools-settings-write-cycle tray before verify
just untick the box, if i do this will it still work as good.last request I promise
thanks to all who helped me
