Great, that makes sense. I'll take my chances and keep on updating as new firmware comes out.
The process looks pretty easy, just hope my usb to sata works :)
Will post the result when I get home :D

If you have a flashed MS28 or a stock/flashed MS25, you will need to use the Intro/Device ID method explained in the trouble shooting steps"
so basically i connect the drive with a sata cable to my motherboard, i open up jungle flasher and go straight to tab MTKFlash 32 and then click on the button Intro/Device ID. when i click on that button will it ask me to upgrade firmware to iXtreme 1.6 and that is it?
You will need to have PortIO installed when using Jungle Flasher. That will allow you to see the Samsung drive. You will click Intro/Device ID and a box will pop up, prompting you to power cycle the drive after clicking ok. Click ok and then shut the drive off for 1 second and power back on (if using the XBOX 360, pull the DVD power cable and plug it back in within 1 second). This will get you good flash chip properties. From there, click Read. That will read the firmware and ask you to save it. JF will prompt you to auto load IX1.6 so go ahead and click yes. Go back to the MTKFlash tab and click write. hey so i am doing the flash now. i have IO installed and have JF running. i hit intro/Device ID button and a prompt came out to restart my xbox 360. i have it connected to the console so i unplugged the power cable to the drive and connected as quickly to a second as possible. as soon as i disconnected the cable i notice that the power light started flashing. i connected the cable again but the power light kept flashing. i keep getting fail though.

Device Intro failed!
i downloaded the ixtreme 1.6 from xbins and put it in the folder that says firmware. that folder had a .txt file that said place firmware here! the 1.6 firmware after i unzipped was a .iso and .bin file and i put both in that folder where the .txt file is at. i did everything else like you said. my MS28 is already flashed so i just clicked on the MTK32Flash button and did the instructions like u said from there on. any idea why i got a fail?

Once you click Intro/Device ID, click OK at the prompt and then when you see the dots go across, unplug the DVD drive power cable, and then plug it back in within 1 second. Be careful though as it has power!

i went ahead and as soon as i saw the first dot i unplugged the power cables and put them back up. more dots showed up for a bit and then it gave me the device Intro Failed. i rebooted my computer just to make sure and tried it again but still the same fail. not sure what i am doing wrong. i have JF and IO installed correctly. i put the .bin and .iso file in the firmware folder and i have the sata cable going from my computer to the Samsung drive. as soon as i disconnect the power cables though the green light starts flashing and will not lock again.... is that normal? any other ideas what i can be doing wrong? i just need to update from 1.5 to 1.6 firmware.
how do i know that JF is recognizing the MS28 drive and that it is actually reading that one? i ran the app without the sata cable and it did the same thing. i do not think that JK is actually ACK the MS28 drive at all. is there any way to make sure of that?

hey.. I get a "no comports were found during enumeration" error as soon as I open JungleFlasher.. I was able to install portio32 successfully and then rebooted..
Here's what I've done so far:
I have a "sata to usb" cable.. plugged in one end of the sata to the xbox dvd drive (the xbox is powered on currently) and the other end to the PC (usb)..
Opened JungleFlasher and this is what I get.. any suggestions? :)
Thanks!

Glad you got it resolved.
Yes, the noise is normal. I recommend installing the game to the hard drive and playing that way.

Hey Guys!
I finally found what I was looking for.
Hope this helps anyone who doesn't have a Desktop on their house, therefore no SATA motherboard to plug in to.
If you're using a USB to SATA adaptor, your computer will not recognize the XBox 360 drive as such, therefore, you need to download the following USB drive:
http://www.ixtreme.net/download/file.php...584e0b6b6dd5d51
Hope it helps!
I'm getting ready to try it now :D

Hey again..
I was able to get the drive recognized by Windows thanks to those drivers, but still no comports detected by JungleFlasher.
Any ideas what I can do at this point?
Thanks!

With Samsung, you don't have to worry about COM ports. A COM port is only needed when dealing with a 74850C Lite-ON.

Okay.. so how do I proceed?
If I go to the MTK Flash 32 tab and try choosing from the I/O ports like the instruction say, I can't find the XBox drive there...
I checked the other tabs to see if there were any options but couldn't see any either, only on the Hitachi GDR3120 tab I was able to see it, but of course, not use it since it's not a Hitachi.
Any help would be greatly appreciated :)
Thanks!

This guide is awesome! Looks like it will be a breeze to do. I only have one question: My old/stock DVD drive isn't reading DVDs so I'm going to be buying new. I have already taken apart my drive and found the physical "key" card but I'm not sure if I can just make a copy of the firmware with the key using jungle flasher and use that copy on the new drive coming in the mail or if the actual physical key card from the old drive needs to be transferred to the new drive before ripping/flashing the firmware?
I guess I'm just confused on what the actual physical card does and/or where the firmware resides - basically I don't know how the key card, firmware, and key (the digital string) relate.

Hey all! So I gave up trying to use the USB to SATA adaptor and borrowed a desktop PC from work :) (yes, they actually let me borrow one.. I'm in the IT department :D).
The process went by so smoothly that I was surprised. I completed the flashing process in about 10 minutes and now I'm able to played my game... "backups" :D
Thanks so much for the tutorial! It really helped, I would've been lost without it :D

I'm in the process of flashing a samsung now and the writing of the banks keeps failing. The 360 keeps shutting off. Did I just brick the system? Should I let it finish with the writing of the banks and see what happens? Any help would be appreciated.

Hey guys,
I just flashed my 360 following this guide, and according to the program and the guide my flash was successful. Right now I have only one game (Fight Night Round 4) that required a newer firmware (I already had 1.2 on I believe) and it used to show up as "Mixed Media Disc" at 1.2. Now when I enter the disc it starts loading and loading but it never seems to read the game. In the end it says "Open tray". I'm not sure if my flashing went bad or whether the disc is just not burned correctly, but I assume the flash went good, cause it has no problem reading my other discs. Tomorrow I'll get FIFA10. We'll see if it's the flashing or the disc being burned incorrectly. Or maybe anyone of you has an idea of what it might be?
Thanks for the guide it was really helpful.
Edit: The drive is a Samsung and Fight Night Round 4 is the only game I have currently that did not work on my 1.2 firmware. So I'm still not sure if it reads newer games, but I'll find out tomorrow with FIFA10.

Now this is a very nice guide. is there one for 64bit vista? or is just better to buy a extra hard drive and have xp too?
(this Q maybe stupid)I seen ppl start the computer to go to prompt and do something to the dvd drive, for what drive I have to do that? or have to do on all of them? I seen ppl just open and run programs on the windows no problem.
Maybe this Qs are stupid and sorry for that is that I'm new and im a person that I need to make sure of everything before I do it, and thats how I learn.

hi ive put ixtreme 1.61 on to a stock samsung ms25. is it ok to put 1.61 directly on without firmware being previously installed?
it will play wave 3 games no problem but will not play wave 4.
Play game appears on "my xbox" yet when i press play the message appears the disc is unreadable.
ive also tried this on my own lite on drive with the activation disc and it says insert this disk in an xbox 360 console. ive made a few activation discs and this hasn't happened before. ive ran the discs back through abgx360 and their fine. i know im not to use activation iso on 1.61 firmware but why wont the wave 4 game play please does anyone know? using abgx1.0.2

I have a similar problem, but have been unable to resolve mine. I keep getting the same error ... whenever I exit JF and come back in, it says No Drive Detected. To have it detect the drive again, I have to reboot the XBOX using the power button, select a different IO Port and reselect the IO Port the drive is connected to.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Well guys this is my problem it all started with my vod6038 drive. I have never had any issues until a week ago when I installed the new 1.67b jungeflasher. When I would go to put the vod drive into vendor mode the computer would lock up every time. I finally found a guide that recommended deleting the same file that is in the beginning of this guide. Viola the drive was responding and program ran great and it's updated to the new 1.61. NOW the problem I have is my ms25 drive as soon as I turn the xbox on the computer locks up so I went through and tried to reinstall the file I deleted thinking that might help and it didn't. Any one have any idea on why all of a sudden the computer locks up and now its really bad with this ms25 drive. Any help will be greatly appreciated. plus instructions on how the process should go for the update from the 1.51 to the new 1.61 I have never had any issues until a few weeks ago and the new jungleflasher 1.67b. I have also tried the old versions and I get the same problem. I was wondering if the comp has a virus or certain things should be turned off.
