Serial-ATA drives are not external and the one linked to before is not SATA.

i heard that there are some games that dont work witht this do u think that it would be possible to use swap magic to boot these games to the HD and does this require a modchip

According to the developer's web site, some games simply are not compatible with the HD Loader. It isn't a modding issue or a backup issue of any kind, just simply that they cannot be reconfigured to load from the HDD instead of the CD-ROM. If this helps, note that I am successfully using a backup copy of the HD Loader to load my backup discs to the HDD with a v8 PS2 w/Magic V chip.

SCMods, Yes I have a Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 120GB, and my originals install on the hard drive with out any problems, but when I try to install a backup I get "Disc inserted is not a valid playstation 2 disc!" this is my set up (v9 PS2, neo 12 no swap chip, Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 120GB)I also can not get my Action Replay Max to work if the chip is enabled, but if I disable the chip it will boot, but then the backup won't, so I have that problem also. I don't know that much about the Neo 12 no swap chip, when I ordered my pre-modded PS2 I thought I was getting a Magic V chip, so If you or anyone can help me with eather of my problems that would be great.

It's been mentioned already that HD Loader will not work with certain modchips. The only thing I can think of is that a Neo 12 might be one of those chips. Perhaps somebody here can find a workaround for the issue.

Thanks Icemonkey, thats kinda what I thought and is not that big of a deal I can just use my originals. I was tring to find some info on the Neo 12 on the internet and one of the web sites I found say that the Neo 12 is ActionReplay MAX, ActionReplay 2 and GameShark2 ready. do you know anything about that?

What is the legality of the hd loader? I have heard about 321 Games and I am wondering whether or not to purchase it. If you think about it, it cant be much different than buying a modchip but I hate to attach my name to it. I also heard they are cracking down on kazaa lite.

After experimenting with this product, it is very clear to me that it could be easily exploited for illegitmate purposes. This product effective enables a user to borrow an original disc from another person, copy it to their hard drive, an play it with no further need for the original which is clearly piracy and anybody who requests help with situation such as this will probably be warned accordingly. Note that all of this is possible without the need to mod your PS2 in anyway so long as you have purchased the original HD Loader disc.

I don't have Final Fantasy 11 but according to the web site, it will not disturb anything that is already on your official Sony HDD. In fact, the hard drive I used in my PS2 is a Maxtor 40Gig I had laying around that I had already formatted using the ps2ownz HDD tool and HD Loader detected this and didn't even need or offer to format the drive for me.

so your saying that you wont even need to format the drive if it has already been formated, like for play online (also how do you get a picture into the signiture box)

Here's the skinny

My ps2 is about 3 years old, it's chipped with a mesiah direct boot modchip. I have a new online adapter and and new maxtor 80gb hd. Itried to load Tiger woods 2004 Original and NO PROBLEM, I tried to load Shrek 2 backup, NO PROBLEM, I even tried to load RE Outbreak and Fight Night 2004, All with no problem. This thing is awsome. I have'nt even had to play with those 3 toggle switches(those who HD Loader will know what I mean) TYhis thing kicks serious ass.

Yes, if the HD Loader detects that the drive is already formatted with a PS2 file system it will not format it. You can simply start installing games to it. I thing the pictures in the signature work by putting the tags [img] and " border=0> with a url to a picture between them. I got those instructions by reading the text above when posting/replying.

whats your opinion guys isnt making the transfer form cd to the hd make the lens work harder thus making the lens break faster rather than playing the games direct from the cd?

Nah the lenzzzz is working just a hard as if it were to be reading the disk for game play so its actually saveing your lazer from having to do extra work.

There shouldn't be a lens strain issue with using HD Loader. In fact, you would be reducing the amount of runtime on your lens. Instead of reading the game disc each time you want to play you only read the entire disc once during the installation.

What about import games that require the triple swap method to boot normally with a fliptop/slide card? Would it be possible to get these to install with HDLoader?

I have a quick little question, does the HDLoader save the game as an ISO on the ps2 harddrive?

I have no knowledge of this so be kind.

hey all, just a little trick ( or my 2 cents ) on the hdloader. after you boot up the hdloader like normal ( not installing ) the cd will keep spinning, and there is no reason for it to spin, its just wastes lazer and dvd-rom motor!!!!!! before you start to play a game,,, press "install", then "cancel",,, this will stop the disk from spinning and save your dvd-rom motor. later
