No doubt, it's Taiyo Yuden (FUJI/SONY), Verbatim and Maxell. Just look at the Taiyo Yuden 8X DVD+R "MIJ" on my GT4 picture.

Verbatim datalifeplus - with a passion. Close second are TY - i can't recommend TY as much as i'd like to, as i still haven't quite got thru my first 100, and while they've been great, for me that's not enough to plug them as much as i can, though of course the other guys use them a lot more than me so that's good enough for me...

I know where you are coming from Creaky. Actually, in my personal opinion, Verbs in the +R format are in a dead heat with TY, but, I'd put the Verb -R format in a close second... this is with MY set-up, of course...

I prefer Taiyo Yuden, but Verbatim is a consistent product and are available retail. As for Ritek I have not used their singla layer but have used their dual layer and they burned fine on my Plextor 716A and played well on all my standalones.

Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim work great for all my movies, but the best media I have found for my PS2 games has to be Maxell.
Good...Bad...I'm the guy with the gun.

??? I think that the question of which media is best, is the same as asking what color hair makes a woman most desireable ??? The answer is try them all and make your own decision ???

Go with Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim. I used to like Ritek but lately they haven't been all that good. I have been finding several with spots on the Dye layer and the movies freeze. Never had a bad TY. Just be sure to buy from a legit dealer so you dont get fakes.

Quote: Ritek beats you all! MWAHAHAHAHAH! :-)
I am finding out the hard way that Ritek discs are of poor quality. I burned a batch of 4X Riteks that worked well at first, but within a few months to a year they have all started "expiring". They may play in my Denon for the first 20-30 minutes, but after that they start to freeze up and pixellate like crazy. My BenQ 1620 DVD-Writer will read them as having "bad sectors". This really ticks me off as I was building quite the library these past couple of years, and the majority of discs have been Ritek. Heck, even my CD-R Riteks are going bad, and my stash of blank discs are crashing during burns 1/2 to 2/3 of the time!
I recently bought a batch of Taiyo Yudens, but I haven't had them long enough yet to find out if they'll "expire" within the same time as the Riteks. If they do, then I think I'll give up archiving DVDs altogether. What's the point if they all expire? My VHS collection still plays after 20 years...

i hear ya!, that's one of the reasons why i try to get posters to give middle of the road media or crap media the old heave-ho, just not worth it, or worth me getting RSI from typing about bad media every night :)

Other than my only crap Memorex purchase, I have pretty much stuck with Verb, which after two years are still playing. Have only recently been using TY so I will have to wait and see if they perform as well as Verb.

??? But creaky, no media is perfect ??? Case in point ? Last night I had back to back coasters using your precious Verbs ??? Surprised the dookie out of me ??? This makes 4 Verb coasters out of slightly more than 500 ??? Maybe I should start using another manufacturer? ??? At least I outta clean my office chair off ??? LMFAO
