hey I know u must sick of theses questions but I have the following issues with galaxy.
1. I have Jap Wii Modified with Wiikey
2. I have upgraded the the Wiikey to 1.9g
3. I have upgraded the Wii from the Mario Galaxy PAL
4. I have turned the region override to ON using config disk 1.3

All my back up works but there are some games like galaxy, metroid prime which recognises the disk but then goes to a black screen and remains there. I have tried to burn it at a lower speed, I only use dvd-r, I use good quality dvdrs, I have tried it using a brickblocker and regionfrii. Can u make any suggestions. Thanks

@syy96

1) The fact that the REGION OVERRIDE appears to be off, even though it's on, is normal.

2) Your Wii should be in this state
----> Firmware 3.1(J)
----> Wiikey 1.9g

and, especially with games containing Firmware updates such as SMG or MP3, you should be using JAP versions.

If you use games from other regions and apply Wiibrickblocker on them, if these games contain an update, they will not run, and you will see the black screen.

Where's the party?!?

I have this exact same problem, do I just need to find some JAP versions of the game. MP3 works fine for me anyways and I was wondering SMG didn't... is there any other way to get these games to work or should I jus stop tryin n move onto JAP games?

As I said before, in my opinion, you should play games that contain firmware updates only if they are from the same region as your Wii.

Wiibrickblocker will render these games useless and, if you decide not to use Wiibrickclocker you risk messing up your system.

First of all, I would like to thank everyone for their information on this thread. I've got my SMG to work in no time.

Firmware: 3.1U
Wiikey: 1.9g
Wii status: semi-bricked, 2 extra channels from JP WiiFit

Secondly, referring to the above posts. It is impossible to play SMG of region other than your machine's. The disc will be detected but the game will not run. Personally I have tried both JP and US on my machine, US works perfectly while JP disc is detected - pressed start and entered black screen.

please somebody help me, i have my wii updated to 3.1U (I am in canada) i got the 1.3 disk and turned the region override on but it just appears off after i reset the console, i dont know if that matters of not. I have 1.9b and 1.9g and i have tried them both but they both do the same thing, i press A to test flashing and it gives me this message, "ERROR test failed, check your connections and try again. WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?!?!?!?! When i put in mario galaxy, the picture appears on the disk channel and i go to it but then it gives me error 001. Unauthorized modification detected and freezes there until i unplug it. Anybody know what

Today, I inserted my backup of SMG, and I got an error that said please eject the disc and refer to the Nintendo Wii instructions booklet. The game always worked. When i saw this message, I ejected the disc and just reinserted it and it worked with no problems. Can someone please explain what the cause of this error is.

THANK YOU

In reply to this error, i've had this error a few times as well with SMG and some other games i play that are backups and origs, i suspect it's the media quality and the condition of our DVD rom, the more we play backups with different media the older and more worn our lenses will get. So Using a worn disc since all disc are known to fade on a already worn lense will create these errors. i think a good thing to do is always give your DVD rom time to spin up and time to spin down, and never rush it. like when inserting a game wait for the whining/spinning sound to start and the channel to be displayed before selecting it. Ejecting on the other hand you can probably hit the eject button the dvd rom slows down at a good pace. Also give yout machine a rest once in a while since heat is a big factor in hardware these days. i also think when turning off the system just hit the power button, don't return to wii menu since this makes the drive suddenly slow down and speed up again trying to detect the game. Any way guys that's what i think the reason is for the dame disc errors. It's just a hunch i've always had with hardware. wear and tear are just normal factors in life with hardware components, good luk guys

Hi I have:
a Jap Wii
a WiiKey updated to 1.9g (i think)

I am able to run a Jap version of SMG, but obviously all in Japanese and I don't read it.

Can I now play a PAL/NTSC U version of the game?

@NicksWii

1) Region Override will show OFF even though it's actually on. It's normal.
2) Burn a new disc of 1.9g at 2x or 4x on DVD-R and try agai, and again, and again ... until it works
3) You cannot run SMG without updating with 1.9g ... therefore the error.

Where's the party?!?

@dimsumsun, @wiigame

These errors are a combination of disc quality, burn quality, laser power, unbalanced spin, drive vibrations, etc...

The only part you can intervene is on the quality of media and burn.

Where's the party?!?

Wait, so by playing backup games with a wiikey, it can make your wii laser weaker?

I have the wiikey and I followed the steps in the tutorial and SMG works perfectly after running the 1.9g fix. My question is do I have to set the region free mode from the config 1.3 disk? If I do, would I need a gamecube controller to navigate?

Please disregard my question. I just found out I had to hold the reset button to select it so I just turned it on.

wow, i feel really stupid. the reason my update wasnt working was because I have an Openwii, not a Wiikey, I downloaded the update for that and it works fine.
