i just installed anydvd on my comp. and tried using it, but the pop up says: it failed to read DVD!
several reasons:
1.dvd media is dirty - i doubt mine is
2.dvd media is damage - doubt it
3.ur drive is a region locked rpc2drive, which does not allow reading of scrambled sectors from a different region and u try to read a dvd from a diff region. known drives having problems are ricoh/philips dvd writers, matshita/ panasonic dvd readers and writers. u can try to find rpc1 patched firmware... - my frd uses matshita but is able to use anydvd...
4. ur drive is rpc2 drive that has not yet been assigned a region. try to assign one, or try to find a rpc1 patched firmware..

so what should i do?

So what kind of drive do you have...Matshita? Find the model # and Firmware version of your drive and try the patched version like your buddy has.

But first I would try cleaning and checking for damage to the disc you are trying to backup.

asdfasfd ,
Welcome to the forum. Have you copied different movies from different regions as it might have changed the region code on the burner. You only get 4 changes ( after the first initialization) then it is locked in the last change and you have to hack it to be region-free if possible. If you have not assigned a region then assign one

The DVD media could be damaged as it could be a bad press or faulty mastering.

Lastly try this since you have AnyDVD:
1. D/L DVDDecrypter ( check the software d/l's at the top of this thread)
2. After D/L open DVDDecrypter go to TOOLS> SETTINGS> I/O and make sure a check mark is next to ElbyCDIO-Elaborate Bytes
3. Make sure AnyDVD is running in the tasbar
4. Insert Movie DVD in drive
5. Open DVDDecrypter go to MODE and make sure a check mark is there next to FILE
6. Hit the decrypt button and now you are using AnyDVD to decrypt and DVDDecrypter to rip it to HD.
7. Then Process w/ Shrink
