I have tried Princo, Ritek, and Universal. Princo's wouldnt always start up... Universal and Ritek works perfectly. www.buy-dvd-r.com carries both of those brands i think. Anyone played .Hack//sign? it's good!

I have always used princo media for PS2 backups without problem and I have used +r & -r and both have worked well. I have gotten them to work in v4 and v1 PS2's. +r seems to boot faster but Im not for sure. Hope this helps!

Quick question what chips are you all using I am getting my ps2 v7 chipped with the messiah 2. I am using the hp dvd200e and using Ritek for movies so far no problems. Check out www.rima.com for cheap +r media 1.50 or so for a 100 pack.

i have a version 5 ps2 with pnp chip. i have burned lots of movies under 4.7 of course on many different brands of dvd-r, however; my problem is that i cannot get any of these to work on burnt games i have tried verbatim, memorex, maxell, and immation, and now i have a coaster for each. i use nero and my games look exactly the same as the originals same files and same size but no luck loading. can anyone help. i still think its the media and want to try samsung beall which even says compatible with ps2 but i don't want to buy a whole pack just one. and ideas of a site that sells these in a single pack.
thanks in adavance

It's not the media it's Nero, Nero it's the worst burning software for movies and ps2. Use RecordNowMax instead. I'm using dvd-pro(gradeA) media .78 each without any problems with movies and ps2 games.

When I first start to make backup. I was using Nero, and the movie that I had backup wouldn't play on my standalone player, but play well on my friends players. I was thinking to buy another player but then I tried RecordNowMax and the backup works well on my player.
Alot of users including myself think that RecordNowMax make the backup more compatible on a wider range of players including ps2. Since I am using RecordNowMax I have succesfully backup 140+ movies. It also works with ps2 games.
There's alot of sites that sell it, you will surely be able to find it. But if you want it free you are on your own.

You should use RW to avoid coasters, verbatim is a very good brand. Because you are using a good dvd brand and also a good burning software, I think your problem is your ps2 mod-chip. Did you ever make a succesful ps2 backup that worked, if not you should ask yourself about your ps2 mod chip? And by the way I had never heard about pnp chip for ps2.

I asked my bro about your chip he told me that this chip can only plays cd games and that you need a gameshark(What the fuck is that??). He also told me that was the worst ps2 chip.
The best ps2 chips: messhiah and magic
I think I have the Magic chip.
Your problem is your chip man sorry to tell you that.

gameshark is the disk that has all the codes on it for alot of games and you swap that out with an original then the burnt game. i just checked out the website where i got my chip (modchip outlet) it says it can play dvd backups and there are other sites that say the same. where did you get your chip and how much was it? do you have to solder any wires in?
thanks again

From a small store near my house, for 130 bucks they put the chip in my ps2 for me. So I don't know about your solder wire. Everyone will tell you that the bests chips are Messiah and Magic(they are the same but from differents manufacturers).

Actually I don't think that the no soldering chips are that bad. Especially if you compare it with the cost of a Messiah2 for example. You can get a no soldering chip with swap discs for about US$40 and easily install it yourself.
AFAIK the no soldering chips tricks the PS2 in thinking it's booting one and the same disc, while you actually swap it for a backup. To make this work you have to boot it up with a disc that's larger than your backup copy.
I'm getting two different swap discs, one for 74min CD-backups and one for DVD-backups. ActionReplay and GameSharks discs also work, but I think that they're more limited due to the size of the discs.
If you're having trouble to swap boot your game, try a smaller game instead and see if it works. I've also heard something about that you can't boot DVD9 format discs.

ok guys and gals. i finally did it. the problem wasn't with the verbatim dvd-r or the pnp stealth chip it was the directions on booting that i downloaded online. seems you have to press the eject and x buttons at the same time not one after the other. that was it.
i can say that maxell and memorex don't work though. but verbatim and imation do.
thanks for your help

I'm using Pioneer A-05 cheaper than Sony dru because it doesn't support +R. But who cares? -R(cheaper) are way much better than +R both for movies and games. My point is don't buy a burner that only support +R/+RW, especially if you want ps2 games because not all ps2 versions are compatibles with dvd+r or you will be doomed. Go for the Pioneer or the Sony(if you want to pay more for the +r/+rw features).
Verbatim are very good but they are also a little bit expensive(for me I'm cheap!!!).
I'm using DVD-pro(GradeA) 0.78 each from meritline.com they worked well for movies and games(PS2). Why pay more lol!
RecordNowMax is the best burning software both for movies and games. Alcohol 120% is good too for games, but I recommend RecordNowMax. I don't know if Nero is good for games all I know is it's bad for movies(alot of compatibilities issues).

if you get a sony drive watch when you use the verbatim discs, i have one and sometimes the sony doesn't burn them right, they have a higher chance of errors on the sony 500a. Also for good deals at a local store the office depot near me runs discounts on the dvd-r/rw and dvd+r/rw all the time cheap, i don't know if they don't sell alot of them or what but they come with cases and they are maxell or imation which i have had no problems with so far on the sony

Because that you have an old ps2 you should try different DVD-r brands before buying them in bulk.
