I am brand new to IRC and am looking for good channels for file sharing. I have connected to many of the channels that came with MIrc. They all suck!!!

I have yet to go into a channel with a lot of people and none are talking.

AM I doing someting wrong?

try connecting to efnet, then type the command /list divx or /list vcd or whatever and you should find good trading channels!

Am bit puzzled about newlifes message, most prolly the one who ends up xdcc listing me when pops in the channels where loitering around...;)

To my understanding no channels "comes" with mIRC, only fair amount of networks listed to which you can or cannot log in. Efnet is one such network, actually one of the largest (over 100 000 users all night long). The method what Dela mentioned, is of course aplicable when logged in to any irc-network. Just a hint, there are also xdcc-search-bot sites on www, which list such "trading" channels, even packet by packet. I can't of course mention none here, just use google again...:)

EC: Agreed, by far the best way is to use something like my downloader!

If you're looking for a certain file in particular, check out packetnews.com, it will list what channels and what network the file is on and will give you links to access those channels with ease.

I use mIrc 3 years ago but now I've given it up.
I'd like to download file from FTP,which I think the speed may be faster.

ircspy.com is what I use to search for packets or files if you prefer. when you click on one, it automatically saves it to your clipboard so all you have to do is paste it and your in there, also, if your only using irc, try using excursion along with it.

I have to say speed is as important as quality.
It is true that ftp searching results sometimes r not that good as we want ,but if we get a active link we can usually download it at a high speed.
Actually I always download files from ftp or http.
I am just wonderring why my eMule speed is so slow~~~~
Of course I believe p2p such as eMule r really good tools.

eMule is slow because when you start downloading you are in the queues of your sources so after a while it speeds up!! You have to get used to running eMule 24/7 and just keep dumping file after file onto your download queue like i do :)

In my experience FTP can be fast, but is usually centered round private servers, however the stuff available off IRC is usually stored on dumps on T1/T3 or faster. It is nornmally one person per bot and not shared like FTP can be. Also I find the newer stuff can be had much faster, it isn't renamed shi*te and its all there, if its incomplete then a new dump usually is set up to provide missing files.
IRC every time, by far.

Messa - I completely agree, i've been on IRC for about 8 years now and i've prolly only spent maybe 15 minutes total on kazaa or any other p2p.

Where p2p comes in is for the older classic movies and mp3! Although there are a lot of older classic movies on IRC, some of them can be a bit of a b@stard to find in my experience. Although for new movies and stuff, IRC cant be topped!

Hey Darthnip! I have a problem with mIRC, I go into the channel, then into the Fserver and I GET the file(s) that I want. And it tries to send it but it just won't download, no progress is shown and after a short while it just jumps to the next user. Any ideas?
