Acctually, Yes you can mod the 360 it is much harder tho and many more risks... for instance if you mess up your harddrive could get destroyed

He said soft-mod, not mod in general

Hi,
I am having a problem with an xbox I soft modded for my niece.
It was working fins up to last weekend.
When I try to load backups it goes straight to "xbox live cannot connect please try later" or something like that, it won't let me do anything.
I can boot up original games with no problems.
What is the easiest way to fix this?
I have read some of the tutorials and they seem quite long and difficult to do?
I used the splinter cell xploit to mod it in the first place.
Also once I get it fixed, what can i do to prevent it happening again?
Thanks
Sham.

it may be that when u sent something through FTP to ur xbox u may not have set back a setting... i think its the static Ip setting. There is a way of doing it but its been awhile since i modded my box

Cheers for the reply.
When i did the soft mod I used a memory card given to me by a friend which had the files needed on it. It used the splinter cell exploit and was running fine for about a year. I checked it on Sunday and it would not boot backups and kept trying to logon to xbox live.
I am not sure if my niece did something or what caused this but as I said it was working fine for ages?

Hey Guys
I'm really new to the modding scene, but I figured something out last week that I thought would be worth posting here w/ some fellow XBox modders. I seen a post in this topic where someone asked if they can mod thier XBox with just a PC and XBox. This IS possible!! This required opening your XBox, but all you need to do is remove the HDD. Since I don't have the Action Replay, an XBox mem card, or anything else used for modding, I learned that there is a way thru XBoxHDM, I'm sure a few of you have heard of this program. If you don't know about this program, just Google it, this is how I learned about it. I could write up a tutorial on how to do this, "Softmodding the XBox w/ just a PC!" It can be done!!
I'll write that tut later on today

Hey
I think I am :P But the difference is that I use it to "hotswap" the mod onto the XBox, so when you start it up again, you have a modded XBox w/o action replay, mem card, any exploits or anything else. I did not see anything like this around anywhere else, so I thought I'd post it... It should be a help for those of us who want to mod with nothing more than a blank CD and PC.

I also wrote that tut this afternoon, if you wanna take a look @ it, If you read it, you should see what I'm talking about, but I'm really bad @ explaining stuff :P

But I'm sure someone else out there must have done this before....

I'm a Dad whos kids have Original Style XBOX's in every room of the house since they're dirt cheap now. I recently softmodded all of them with the combination of Shademand's Ready Made Xbox SoftMod and XBOXHDM v1.9. It was the easiest mod to an electronic device that I've ever done. If you are like me, Cheap and Lazy, this is the way to go. I had a disposable desktop computer on hand for the job in case of a major screw-up (Systemax AOL Optimized). A Torx driver, cd burner, jumper wire (for metal-to-metal contact between Xbox and Computer), and FAITH in your ability to follow instruction is all you need. Keep this in mind. Editing (.ini) files and folder names and structure are easier if you do it before it's on you Xbox. I make this point because I could not get the emulators to work on any of my boxes. I also recommend adding any roms, emulators, music etc... before creating the (.iso) with XBOXHDM. Remember, If you can read there's nothing you can't do.

Ok I have been reading this post and am a little lost.
Hopefuly some one can point me in the right direction.
Here is my situation. My x-box hard drive is going out. Some times it will boot up and play. Others it just comes on & click click click.... I have a 80 gig WD drive here that I want to put in the x-box. All I want to do is be able to play the games I own and don't care about my saved games. If at the end I can play burnd games or rip games to the hard drive that would be a cool bonus. What is the best way to do this with out puting in a mod chip. Also, if it makes any difference. I am more than willing to open the case up on this thing & a PC if I need to.

Thansk!! :)

TO: Viperacer,

STOP USING YOUR DYING XBOX HARD DRIVE!!!!

XBOXHDM ver1.9 will clone your hard drive if you haven't killed it yet. You will have to search for a compatible, lockable Hard Drive.
There are beneficial side effects of using this program so educate yourself.
