it does. i just read it all. if that is true, then ppl saying the 360 chip is better were spreading bullsh*t. i new the cell was better but people seem to think more threads always means better. the cell is like a 7 core processor, but the cores are like robots and only work by commands given from the real core. 3.2ghz x7 is alot.
But they all do sort of the same thing, and that is rearrange what you thought was real, and they remind you of the beauty of very simple things. You forget, because youre so busy going from a to z, that theres 24 letters in between... You turn on... tune in... and you drop out...

No man its not 3.2ghz x7 as in actual strong processors. The SPE's dont even deserve to be called cores. I stoped reading it right when i read that they said, a new supercomputer wil hit your home, or somthing cheesy like that.

while checking out some other forums i came across this thread that has refer. to the cell processer..im not sure how true everything is but the guy/gal who wrote it up seems to know a few things and attempts to talk about the cell and give some background info

Nice article. I've always said everythign that wa sin that article and uased arstechnica and anandtech to back it up, now forbes too.
The cell is beautiful, and a revolution. As a CS student at MSUM I am the only person here or mentioned that even has any type of qulification to analyze the chip. And barely any qualification that even is!!!!
Anubis, kukoo, truthman, you're all a bunch of junoir high or high school kids that don't now a micro-kernel from a macro-kernel. You can seriously keep you un-educated and worthless blabblings to yourself IF you are goign to cliam you know what's goign on.
In the future, less and less general all purpose cores are needed, and that's why this chip designed for the future has one general purpose core. Because audio/video trancoding, graphics, physics, rendering and any digital signal processing etc etc and more can be handle by the SPEs. And when it comes down to it, that's what we are all demanding performance in.
For the average PC and home user, the Cell is too powerful and too advanced for their needs, and that's why this chip won't contend with intel and AMD's dual and three core CPUs for home. But when you find powerusers, businesse, servers, programmers, and computer gurus, they will all be using the Cell a few years from now. This chip is amazing, everythign about it is well thought out, and I am so exicted it's unbelievable!!

The cell is going to be used in Pc's this year, IBM Toshiba and Sony has allready announced it.

No it will not be used in Personal Computers, as in computers you buy at Best Buy. The acronymn PC is oeverused. The Cell will appear in the PS3, workstations, servers, render farms, and superocmputers. No non-specialized apllications or operating systems will run on the cell and it would survive in an average end home user market.
Depending on the Cell's workstation and PS3 success you may see it appear in powerusers and custom computer builder's homes towards the end of the year. Mostly people that can program for it and can emulate windows and port their common software to it.

IBM toshiba and sony announced that they wil use the cell chip in PC's and almost every other electronic(cell phones, consols), to compete against intell and amd.

You kinda have to be a loser to go back and edit your posts significantly. I do not use the backspace or arrow keys because my tim eis slightly more valuable typin gelsewhere for college and for money rather than for your sake on a forumn site.
I do not deny that they claim this, it's true. But, the difference between me and you is who has taken CS classes and economics classes in college. I can understand that the cell chip may have ambitions to take over the PC market, that is a standard attempt. However, the lifespan of the cell chip outside of PS3 will only be 3, 4, maybe at best and with the PS3 5 years. That is not enough time to gather enough third party support to make any OS as useful to an average legal! user. This is in the scenario that Microsoft will not develope a Windows for and neither will any other non-linux company. In the event they do, then you are looking at a developement period that exceeds the estimated lifespan of the chip.
A direct decendent, maybe 3 at best, years from now will be a likely canidate to tak eon this challenge where its predecessor had laid the foundation.
Until then the cell will most likely flourish in servers, medical and scientific apps, and some consumer electronics. A few people here and there (Myself included) will have developement tools and kits to program for the cell and make it puposeful for ourselves and very powerful. We and anyone those who will download our work and show it to their friends, will be making the chip and software/OS useful by illegally porting Windows and all of its software to the chip.

Technically both the lime green and purple sections and a littl emore towards the center make up an individual SPE. Let me refrase my question - why are the colors in general so exagerrated. The EIB bus inbetween horizontally opposed SPEs is really thin and blends in to the surrounding ends of the 3? colored SPEs. I am not positve, this coudl be new to me, but this cell is probably pettied up and dyed to exagerate key characteristics for the. It shoudl be all one color.

Option A - Bland silicon wafer
Option B - Dye specific areas to highlight the marketed attributes like SPEs
