pelino..Well nobody but U can answer your Question [ only on TV the sound is with distortion ].I guess U should buy or try a different Player. Take your DVD TO THE STORE and try it in one of their DEMOS that they've got hooked up. ACTUALLY thats how I buy my Players,I take one of ea kind of DVD that I have. If they all play I buy

Rustbuket..A lot of people are having FAILURE rates on Verbs for longevity . I,ve got some that are 2yrs old they play on my computer but not my DVD Player. Also I've found a few Players [friends] that won't play them
I've got some cheap CompUSA Discs [ ProDisc or InfoDisc I think ]8,9 yrs old they play fine
The only Disc that I buy now are TYs or Ritek.More TYs, Ritek Ridata is my second choice.Depends who's running the best sale

verbatum 16x mcc-004 from staples in canada.
I was running low on dvd's ( i always use verbatum) so i bought 3 X 100 boxes and yesterday while doing some projects my old stock ran out. I Opened one of the new ones and on the first disc after 30% it spit out and said bad media.I had just downloaded the new imgburn 2.4 so i thought it was that, so i tried with dvdflick which still had imgburn 2.3 , same thing 30% and quit, So i tied , nero , clonedvd2. All failed at 30% opened the other 2 packs and they work perfect ,same burns, all same software. First time ever had bad verbatums. the packs all came off the same shelf.

I've got about 3/4 or more of a stack of 75 DVD+R's of Memorex disks. I tried using one, one time for data & it wasn't any good. Since then, I only use Sony DVD+R disks. In a stack of 100's, I maybe get 1 bad disk, 2 at the most. I'll never use Memorex disks for dvds again.

I still think that if you want to be certain, then stick to TYs. I have burned about 500 in the last few months and not had even ONE bad burn .

frbernard..Thats the right IDEA....All of U who don't know what a DVD is use DVD Info...It will tell U what kind of Media U are using..U just can't go by name brand in this day & age...As far as Discs go if your going to buy at a retail store, your better off buying CompUSA--[CHEAPIES ]or buy Office Depot---which are RITEK
TYS ARE REALLY GOOD Discs, next Ritek Ridata...WORD Never burn over 8x if U are looking for longivity in your Disc

After happily using Riteks for years, I bought into the Taiyo-Yuden hype and bought their "value line" hub-printables. I immediately started having streaking on my R200 that I hadn't had before.
I changed the ink cartridges, the firmware and the software, but the problem wouldn't go away. Since I always say I'll try anything twice, I bought another batch, this time the cakebox version (DVD-R47WPP25EB8). Same problem.
So I bought a new printer. Same problem with a slightly deeper color on the disks but still streaky and nothing like the Riteks I had been using.
I've returned the T-Y's and have oredered some more Riteks. I have never had a problem with them and probably have less than 10 coasters after 7-800 DVDs.
I have been using SuperMediaStore for purchases but am very unhappy with their return policy and other issues. Anybody got a favorite store? How about a generic ink cart for the Epson R series?

I've never had any problems printing on TY discs. I've printed on them with an R200, an R220, an R280 and an R300 mostly using aftermarket ink. I'll admit that Riteks do look a little nicer when printed on, but nearly every Ritek G04 and G05 that I've had failed in six months or less regardless of burning speed or burner used. I used to sing their praises, but I won't touch them now. The non printables held up better and the +Rs were better. I've used the TY value line a few times, but I don't buy them anymore due to the higher PIE and PIF rates. I usually get the TY-R 8X (TYG02) premium printables and have very few failures. No brand is perfect, but these work the best for me. I haven't had any trouble printing on any brand, but the Riteks do probably look the best. I'm more concerned with longevity myself, though.

With the R280 I'm currently using I am using refillable cartridges. You can find them on ebay. I paid $49.95 plus $14.50 shipping for six pre-filled cartridges, six syringes and six 4 ounce bottles of ink. The printer sees them as genuine Epson cartridges. They have self resetting chips, so you don't have to fool with that. The print quality looks about the same as far as I can tell. They also make these kits for the T048 series cartridges.

Here's a link to where I bought mine: http://stores.ebay.com/Super-Smart-Electronics . You can just go to ebay and search for refillable cartridges and there are several people selling them. The cartridges are clear and you can see how much ink is in them. I haven't had to refill one yet since I've had them less than a week, but it looks fairly easy. The cartridges have no sponge in them like many cartridges do. They are just tanks to hold ink. They are the same size as the original cartridges. The chip is supposed to reset to full when ink capacity is down to 10%. They can't be mixed with other cartridges. I guess the chips won't allow it. The only glitch I've had so far is a couple of times the printer told me all cartridges were empty. I just popped them all loose and reseated them and they showed full again. I believe that if you just refill one cartridge you probably have to release them all and push them back in for the printer to recognize them. It's not that much of a hassle, really. I don't mind having to monkey around a little since those six four ounce bottles of ink will probably give 8-10 refills. You can get another set of ink bottles for about $25.00 plus shipping, of course. Maybe after I've had them a while I may not be so enthusiastic about them. They do save a lot of money, anyway.

If you are going to go that route then I would say go with a Continuous Ink System. I originally had the ink cartridges that had to be taken out and refilled and I was happy with them. Much cheaper that way. I had to send my printer back and got a new one and the old cartridges didn't work with it so I switched to a CIS which has the 6 cartridges and little hoses coming from them out of the printer to bigger tanks. When the big tank runs low all I will have to do is refill it. The cartridges at times seem to not show that they are going low but at others they do get low and when it supposedly runs out it just resets itself. According to the CPU it has reset about 5 times since I got it but is probably used at least 8 fill-ups worth. This system is much easier in my opinion. Just search your printer model and CIS on ebay.

Well, I guess I am learning some of the pitfalls of refilling cartridges. I think I would go the CISS route if I had to do it again. The main problem with that is I don't think I would have the room to set my printer up with a CIS system where my printer is sitting now. I found out that the ink I received with my refillable system is apparently not the same ink that they were prefilled with. After refilling the cartridges I found every thing was printing with a strong cyan cast. I went into advanced settings for the printer and changed the settings to -.25 cyan and +.2 yellow and my results are now acceptable. I used a whole lot of ink and paper to come up with these settings. I imagine I'll have to do this again whenever I get new ink. The ink that came in the cartridges required no adjustment to the color balance at all. I'm sure that I could have the same problem with a CIS system since they use the same ink as far as I can tell. The refilling is fairly straight forward. The syringes supplied are junk and started developing cracks almost immediately.
The printer also seems to drink this ink. I do a lot of printing and have to refill about once a week. I never used the original Epson cartridges that came with the printer, but I imagine they wouldn't last very long either. I ordered this printer from the internet for something like $68.49. I can get a new set of cartridges at Sam's Club for about $4.00 less than that. That is ridiculous.
All in all I would say that I am satisfied with what I have now. I believe a CIS system would probably be a better route to go. I think the price is fairly comparable.
I'll report any new problems as they occur.

what's the overall verdict on Ridata 8x -r G05 vs. Ty Value -r 8x both hub printable. I have heard that Ridata will soon be unavailable due to some royalty issue, anyone else heard this?

I'm kinda in the same boat..I just bought a RX580 (What an Ink guzzler it turned out too be). So Lo and Behold for now no more Generic Ink.Epson ink is about $70.00 4 refills
I've looked at some continuous ink systems. But for the life of me can't see how it would work on this particular unit as U have to lift the Scanner bed to load ink. It looks like U would crimp the hoses. Has anybody used CIS for this particular printer

Tralblazr..Both Tys and Ridata are very good choices. I've used them both with great success. Tys seem to be the little better Disc. Also in the past I used Prodisc S03, they were the Silver Printable surface which turned out to be good Discs also. But all of a sudden Prodisc started putting out Crappy Discs, so I quit using them. But it looks like they might be coming back into the fold (Prodisc). I've not heard any reports on them yet. But I know price wise they are in the same bracket. In the past they were about 10 to 15% cheaper. But that was a few years ago. They might be worth checking

thanks man, I had just heard abot ritek going out of biz and was getting nervous as I had used them for a long time. Just been wary about all the fake ty disc I always hear about. I guess if anything I will try the hub printable ty if my supply runs dry on the ridata. THanks for your response bro.

I am in toronto canada, I go down to the college and spadina stores. At the moment im able to get ridata 8x or 16x hub printable for $11 each package of 50. I guess the ty would cost me a bit more. what should I expect to pay for 100 pack hub printable ty?
