Quote: One thing we all must remember is these new safedisc protections eg 3.20.022 whether CD or DVD are extremely hardware dependant. Not just on burner+sheep+EFM capability but CPU, RAM and northbridge chipsets configuration/capability as well. Virtual drives will always be a winning second choice, but as for 1:1 CD/DVD copys, keeping hardware right up to date as expensive as that is will always overcome. (Blindwrite+Blindwrite tweaker is another good choice to back up Sims 2 on DVD. Alcohol all the way on CD)
I know of 3 brand name cd burners that has successfully made a 1:1 backup of Safedisc 3.20.022, that's it! Don't waste money on purchasing the "right" dvd\cd burner for pc protected game backups as I stated earlier, the days of making 1:1 bakups are slowly coming to a end :( My advice? If looking for a dvd burner it's difficult to pass up a Lite-ON dvd burner as they are very affordable, reliable, and vender is dependent on firmware updates.
Alcohol 120 over CloneCD right now? Not a chance m8.

Exactly, right now being the operative word. Apps do play a big part and I can assure you when the new release of Alcohol is finally out, you'll change your perspective. I can tell you of at least 12 drives that have been capable of 1:1 with S/D 3.2, but as shocked as you may be the exact same models dont work for everyone. I am a Liteon and Sony man through and through, but Liteon is not the winner with this protection.
Someone quoted they cant use MDS files with Alcohol, this is strange as MDS/MDF is Alcohols native format.

I have a question. If I use the latest Alcohol 120% to back up Sims 2 will it work correctly? (like the game runs without a "please insert the CD" sign)

It's quite obvious you don't know the history of CloneCD m8. Alcohol 120 is a 'mimick' of CloneCD with added features. I've been backing up pc protection since 1998 and CloneCD was king then, king now :)And NO, I won't change my perspective.

All backup software works on the same principals, calling one a mimick is a bold statement, if your a loyalist to CCD, more power to you, I'm a loyalist to Alcohol, and when I'm backing up my starforce protected games, without disabling my secondary IDE, and premastering .bin .cue and .iso's, I'll think of you :) CCD wasnt capable of Alcohols performance until 5.0.0.0 beta and now 5.0.2.2 anyway. I'm not knocking elby/slysoft, I think ANY and Clone DVD are the best apps ever made.

@Woll
Since you already have A120 we'll use that.
Start A120 than choose "Image Burning Wizard". Where it asks you to select an image file browse to the folder where your images are. A120 should recognize the ccd files. Burn one at a time to a separate disc for each and keep the burn speed low :)

I have a question. If you burn it like that do you have to use the Emulation option on Alcohol? And will the Emulation really work?

I can't tell you for sure since both of those depend entirely on your hardware, software and system settings. Give it a try and see what happens :)

Hey guys, I'm havin a hell of a time trying to figure out how to back up the Sims 2. DVD edition. I am using alcohol 120% and Daemon Tools. I used and followed this tutorial http://mehateme.homepage.dk/How_To_install_sims2_crack.txt but still got nothinbg, either the sims 2 screen will come up and not do anything or it will say the application has crashed, it will now be terminated. Does anybody have an idea on what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Unfortunately Alcohol doesnt support burning DVD PC games, it only supports virtual drive images on DVD, your better off with Clone CD 5.0.2.2 or Blindwrite 5.2.5 with Blindwrite tweaker.

I'm also having some problems with my burned copy of Sims 2 - I've tried a few of the settings in CloneCD like close/don't close session, emulate/amplify weak sectors and so on.. so far I've had two kinds of results:
Either a start-screen of the game, nothing else for quite a while and then an error message saying that "windows has experienced some kind of trouble with the file sims2.exe" (or something like that translated from swedish - the one where you can report the problem to microsoft if you want)
Or: A message talling me that the cd can't be found
I'm using a Nec ND-1300 for this with 16X reading speed and 10x writing speed and I'm writing on a cd-rw (for money-saving reasons) Should I use cdr instead of the -rw? Lower read/write speeds?
Also - it would be nice to write a cd that doesn't need cloneCD to hide it before running - is this thread telling me that's not possible?
I might add that I think that the reading part worked, since I can play the game mounted with Daemon Tools..
Inputs anyone?

You could try lowering your burn speed. More than Likely your burner isnt capable of reproducing Safedisc 3.20.022. Give the Alcohol Trial a go. are you using the same drive to read and write?

If you drink and drive your a bloody idiot, you might spill your drink.*LOL* If you have a DVD-ROM use that to read, might helpas well, this is how I have sucessfully imaged S/D 3.20.022.(but its still dependant on your burner) You could try the EFM test on your burner (google it) to see if your wasting your time or not.

Hi there everyone!
After reading this entire thread about everyones problems, many similar to mine, i have become even more confused haha
I know many of you have somewhat answered the following questions, but just to make my situation as clear as possible ill ask again
OK....so ive made a backup of the sims 2 using clone cd version 5.0.2.2, now i get the classic problem of "insert the correct CD-ROM" when i try to play the game
Now, i followed the many instructions i was given...
but i did encounter a few difficulties on the way
When i was "reading to image" ther were no bunch of profiles, there was only one profile, which was DVD.
Continuing on i could not set the read speed to 4X, there was nowhere for me to select it, it straight away went to burn...looked everywhere cant find this option.
When i went to burn the image, again there was only one profile "DVD" so i couldnt select the Protected Cd thing to do this :"emulating weak sectors"
This time i did have the option to select the speed, which i chose as 1x as recomended...
I then i made sure that i selected the "Hide CDR media"
After all of this i still had the same problemo after installing. The "insert correct CDROM" I even uninstalled clone so see what happened, still same result.
I attempted to use Alcohol, but it wouldnt create an image cause it couldnt read the Sims 2.dvd file.
I have a Lite-On DVD burner which i used to burn my cd, as well as attepmting to play the game(i only have one cd drive)
Ive used the virtual clone cd drive, but that didnt make any difference to what happened at all
It would be GREATLY aprectiated if someone was kind enough to give thier expert advice, but if u cant help that ok...i wont hate you :)
..and thanks heaps for ur patience to read this very long post

Alcohol doesnt support burning to DVD as yet, you'll only be able to play from a Virtual Drive.

Either BlindWrite or DiscJuggler would be worth a shot for burning an ISO to DVD :)
