Right, I've been reading all these posts and I am a bit baffled on this subject. Let me tell you what I have done... I have burnt the CCD files using Clone CD onto disk. I installed the game fine and tried to run it but of course, like usual, it did not work. So I've done all that, and I have no idea on what to do from this point onwards. I have Virtual Drive installed but don't know how to use it and when I run The Sims 2, it just freezes up on the opening screen.
Any help will be truely appreciated. Thanks.

Hi again. I have still not figured out how to get my Sims2 bin, cue, ccd to work. Got Alcohol 120% and deamon tools. I have tried burning the ccd files into cd's with Alcohol, but i get 'Image file loading failed!' message.
Should i do something with the settings in Alcohol ?
Please give me a DETAILED description om what to do, FROM SCRATCH ! I would be 4 ever grateful. Seriously. Advanced Thanks !

I purchased the dvd edition of the sism 2 and it works fine. I want to make a bcak up though. I have all the burning software. I just want to make a working backupup without using imagedrives or emulation software. this way i can use it on another computer with emulation software installed.

Make/model drive?
Is your game the PC version or the Playstation one? I ask because you mention using DVD Decrytper but that's only used for PS2 DVD titles.

Oh, i'm sorry. I have the special DVD edition of the SIMS 2. I have a Sony Vaio W-700G. The drive is a Sony DVD-RW/CD-RW DW-U55A. Im not sure why is says an error occured when i either go onto DVD Shrink or dvd encrpter, i don't think something is wrong with my drive because i always burn movies and cds and it always works.

So the game is for your computer, correct? Not a playstation? There's a big difference in the software needed to back up one or the other so we need to be clear on that before we go further :)

Yes, the game is for my computer. I just burned the dvd for my computer by using drag and drop cd+dvd. It burned good, but now it gives me an error message that says "insert correct cd rom." I am burning this game for my friend and i would like the game to work on his computer without any problems. Thanks.

Unfortunately with protected games it isn't as easy as using drag and drop - they're protected to prevent that.
For software you need to look at either Alcohol 120% or BlindWrite5. SafeDisc 3.20.022 (the protection that Sims2 uses) on DVD presents a unique problem in that BlindWrite5 can burn to DVD but it can have a hard time with SafeDisc 3.20.022 whereas Alcohol 120% is good at that protection but can't burn to DVD. I don't have that title but if I were to be trying I'd give BW5 a whirl and see where that got me.
Another consideration is your hardware. Only a handful of DVD burners have proven to reliably back up PC protections of which your Sony isn't among the ones I know. One of our members, pollushon, has backed up PC games with a Sony DRU-500A so I'll give him a jingle and see if he has any pointers for you.

Hi there agent car, the best help I can give is if your using Alcohol you will be able to make a working image for play in a Virtual Drive just not be able to burn it back to disc. Unfortunately Alcohol does not support burning DVD's yet, but supports Safedisc Protected DVD images. If your doing it for a Friend, get him to download the Alcohol Trial to make the image then he can use freeware Daemon Tools/Script when the trial runs out. As for your burner I am unfamiliar with the DWU and cannot tell you if it would be capable. Just for the record I used a DRU510A for my CD backups (sorry if I misstyped the model Nephilim) I have a 500A also, but in the filing cabinet as it doesnt cut the mustard on Safedisc v3x. If you really badly want it on disc, I would recommend Blindwrite and Blindwrite tweaker, and Nephilims expertise :)
