MInd you, I dont think I would want to be tinkering with a 500 dollar machine likes.(Here`s the Wind up)I hope they have Swap Magic 4 then I wont have to bust up my new Pandoras Box when it comes out..if I can afford it that is..
Would it be possible to buy a cheaper key cheaper blu-ray rom drive than a bluray burner and rip the new games and shrink/convert them to a DVD-9 and play the backup or would you have to shrink them to much, and not be able to???
ps3 will be able to play almost any format current in the market, yes it play ps2 games, I have my money on blue ray technology over hddvd due to the fact that brdvd can hold 25gb per layer and it can accomodate 8 layers or probabily more eventually, so is a more future proof al least that is my point of view.
Of course a brdvd burner has to be very expensive a this moment the same way that prior media was, but next year there will be brdvd burners for consumers in the 1k price range or even less and price will continue to drop after that.
Burning a full cd in many cases takes the same time then burning a dvd with todays technology, so it will be most likely that a brdvd will burn at faster speed also.
And I really think that developers will be using more storage since games will be playing in HD format, this doesn't mean you will need a HD tv set to beging with cause most games will be also display in todays tv's.
I'll let de moding and backup geniuses think about that now, meanwhile, I'll just keep saving cash to buy my PS3 after it arrives. Then I'll check what solutions have the geniuses found for us.
