Oh dear, guess I'd better hurry up and get a digital camera or a USB cable for my cell phone, and redo the MOD on my PlayStation 2. I have moved to the hardware MODing scene since I got a DMS4 SE Lite installed in my system, which means that all I did for my slim while I was part the soft-MOD community here, has been removed and dumped. Don't worry, though, as soon as I get a digital camera or a USB cable for my cell and redo the MOD(temporarily), I'll post them on the guide(you already have an idea about the straw with the picture Vxt posted).

My console collection: Version 14A PlayStation 2(chipped), Version 7 PlayStation 2, PlayStation(both models), Wii, Gamecube, N64, Super NES(original from US and Japan and Mini), NES(front and top loader)Model 1 & 2 Genesis, Sega CD, Sega 32X, Atari 2600, Sega Saturn, Sega Dreamcast, Sega Master System(Model 1 and 2), Atari Flashback 1 & 2, FC Twin(2 in 1 NES/Super NES clone), GN Twin(2 in 1 NES/Genesis clone), Atari 7800, Intellivision II, TurboGrafx 16, GameBoy Color

Did you flatten it? Keep something heavy on the straw, or do like Vxt: cut the straw lengthwise like he did(his post is on page 2). Flattening tha straw or cutting it in half lengthwise is the only way you can put the straw in a Version 13/14 because of the metal plate in front of the metal clip next to the spring.

I did both ways, I flattened the straw and it didn't work and I also cut it in half lengthwise, but it also did not work. I tried putting it in the way that Vxt did, but everytime I put the straw in, it still does not detect the disc door is closed.

Is everyone positive this works on a v14? Has anyone done this on a v14? Also... if anyone has any pics of them doing it, particularly on a v14 (mines the black one), I'd REALLY appreciate it! :-D Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me, the last part was driving me nuts last night.

Ah ha!
I found out my original problem was that I wasn't making sure the top-right censor was fully settled in. The straw part was actually surprisingly easy after I realized this...

To all of you who are having problems... make sure the censor at the top-right is properly/perfectly pushed all the way to the right and stays there! Otherwise youo will be fumbling forever like I was.

At least you got your problem sorted out. I knew that it's just not possible not to hit the sensor in the console. Other than that, please don't, and DON'T, quad-post(use Edit, please)

its really easy. make sure the other two switches are active then keep pushing the straw.. cut a 3 inch piece. sometimes the straw needs to get in there and bend so it pushes the switch inside. its a matter of trial. it works eventually. if you can touch thet straw without making the cd stop spinning then its good enough. then you tape it down with the surface at the base of the lid.

Once the warranty on my pstwo runs out anyway, if I'm not getting a modded PS3 or anything like that (assuming that a method for easily playing backups finally exists), I'll get a hardware mod for my pstwo, but for now this method rocks, its free, and best of all, doesnt void ur warranty.

Pictures are on their way soon. For those of you who have been waiting for pictures to help you out with the MOD, I have been redoing it to my console and taking pictures on my cell. As we speak, I might be able to borrow a digital camera(with a USB cable) because the pictures on my cell are blurry, and I have no USB cable for the phone. Keep checking, because soon, the problems with the MOD(for the people who have problems getting it to work) will be over.

Pictures have arrived! Finally. Everyone here will now have a chance to see the MOD I concocted for Version 13 and 14 PlayStation 2s. Come have a look on the first post of the guide.

Can the lid be closed with this straw method?

Nevermind, just read that you can. Sorry.

Hey Ace_2,

I tried using your method. I actually did this for my original V12, but I replaced my V12 with a V14. The problem in both cases though, is that I never was able to successfully close my PS2 lid without messing up the straw position.

Even though I've taped down the straw right now, if I were to close my PS2 lid, it seems like some sort of hinge or something inside bends the part of the straw touching the sensor in such a way that the straw no longer fulfills its purpose. I then need to readjust the straw by taking off the tape, repositioning, and then finding the spot where the straw goes.

Has anybody else successfully managed to close their lid with this method?

I got it to stay where it was, just remember that you should keep the straw the way it was put in the pictures I posted. Just remember, the straw is hard to keep in place unless you use a massive load of tape(I used 5 layers when I did it on mine before getting my chip).

My console collection: Version 14A PlayStation 2(chipped), Version 7 PlayStation 2, PlayStation(both models), Wii, Gamecube, N64, Super NES(original from US and Japan and Mini), NES(front and top loader)Model 1 & 2 Genesis, Sega CD, Sega 32X, Atari 2600, Sega Saturn, Sega Dreamcast, Sega Master System(Model 1 and 2), Atari Flashback 1 & 2, FC Twin(2 in 1 NES/Super NES clone), GN Twin(2 in 1 NES/Genesis clone), Atari 7800, Intellivision II, TurboGrafx 16, GameBoy Color

I have v15 and it works great. heres some tips on how i got it to work. for the bottom right sensor i just plugged it up with a cigarette foil ball. for the cd slide thing top right i used tape. for the tricky lid internal sensor i used the y straw method. took a piece of a straw about 2 inches maybe, and cut it in half vertically. than i made another vertical cut half way down that. than i folded it in half vertically. so the very end kinda looks like )( . i put an original game in and after blocking the first to sensors and powered it on with the lid open. attached tape to the branch end and shoved the straw in kept doing this untill i got a buzz and than the cd started spinning while the cd was spinning i mounted the straw becuase i already had tape on it. its easier to mount the straw when the ps2 is turned on becuse you will know if its still working after you fold it over to mount.
Thanks to the guy that came up with using a straw for this. it works great and becuase its only a straw you dont have to worry about damaging anything. just make sure you dont touch the optical lense (obviously). i tried the same thing with a paperclip instead of the straw it didnt work. from the sounds of it this method is probably much easier than the magic key tools, and its free!

Last, and this is the hardest part of the MOD, cut off about 1/4 of a straw. Cut it in half lengthwise(bending it at an end) so that you have less problems to get the straw in the gap that's in between the metalic plates and lid hinge(pictures: straw: http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/7356/strawoutml3.jpg where it goes: http://img118.imageshack.us/img118/3879/strawwhereitgoesnb1.jpg Stick the straw there, putting it in very slowly. You might want to turn on your console while doing that. Look at the laser as you stick the straw in. Get some tape ready. Once you see that the laser moves to the spindle and flashes, fix the straw so that it never moves out of place(the laser will stay where it is) and tape it with as many layers of tape as you need. It should look like this: http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/1748/strawco4.jpg

To get the straw squarely on the switch is a pain in the neck. It took me 5 tries to get the straw on the sensor.
There! You're ready to use Swap Magic or any other swap method on your Version 13/14 slim PlayStation 2

How will you close the lid with that straw in the back? I just use it with paper in the front right sensor and the lid halfway opened when I load the burned game, but I wanna try this, just not risk damaging my console.

You wish you were me

OK, I am stumped. I got the sensor by the power button, the break I pluged with a peice of paper wound into a stick and then stuck into the hole, and I just can't get the straw bit to work. I ocassionally get a hum like the disk is about to spin, but I always realise too late and knock the straw.
It would help if someone could make a real crude/basic drawing of where the sensor is and what angle etc to go in at. I tried for 30 mins yesterday and nearly 40 mins today. I really desperate to get my GHII custom version to work.

What's the status of the straw mod with the 77001? I've heard some bad noise about having to open the case/ void the warranty.
