Quote: wow great info!
i will be getting a psp very soon and it looks like it will probably be 2.0+ so i was wondering if there is any way to play games, watch movies, pictures from an external USB HD? instead of using the memory stick. has anyone looked into this? can you format an external USB drive?
The answer to your question is no. You will not be able to play anything directly from an external usb drive. However portable hdds with usb host functions can be used in conjunction with the psp.. read this thread for more info, first two pages should help

Great info.. I've been trying to get my PSP up and running and have downgraded to 1.5 and loaded Fast loader 0.7 and Devhook. I'm going to d/l MPH when I get home but had a quick question. Last night when I attempted to load two ISO's I got the system would try to read and then just turn off. I believe one of the games was on the list as a no load so i'm fine with that but I just wanted to know if the PSP reset is what happens when the game is not going to load and is it probably i'm just using games that can't be loaded yet. (The other game was Splinter Cell Essentials)

How do u backup psp games?
Arent psp games almost 2 gb? Then how is 1 gb memory stick enough for psp games?? Is there a place I can download psp games from? How long approximately (a good guess) would you think it would take for hackers to make a downgrader for version 2.50?
Thx in advance,
s3a

Arent psp games almost 2 gb?
No. Most are below 1gig, some like gta are just about over 1 gig.
Then how is 1 gb memory stick enough for psp games??
You can rip games that are over 512 mb or 1 gig to smaller size.
Is there a place I can download psp games from?
Torrent sites, p2p software.
How long approximately (a good guess) would you think it would take for hackers to make a downgrader for version 2.50?
When they can, they'll tell you. Keep checking PSP-hacks.com and see if they release one. Remember don't buy any downgraders, they may brick your psp.

9. Q. I still want to buy off a shop, is there anyway I can tell, what firmware it is?
A. Luckily, there is 2 way's of doing that, you ask them to check the PSP version (they have to open the box), but theres a very slim chance that there going to do that so I suggest you try this way (Credit to PSPHacks):
A-1.50
B-1.51
C-1.52
D-2.00 Unconfirmed
E-1.52 (Now Confirmed it is 1.52)
F-2.00
G-2.01
- - - - - - - - -
as it says, how positive/sure can i be that "A" is 1.50, cuz i hope it is if i find one in the store and buy it...so like how sure are you about that?

If you bought it preowned and it says a A, than it wouldn't probally be 1.50, but if it is brand new, and shows a A, than it is a 1.50, 98% sure, cause thats how I bought my first PSP, and I got a A

Can you compress the video and sounds of an ISO? Or do you have to cut them out to make the size of the iso smaller?

some thoughts before i buy a psp
before i buy a psp, as you say in question 9, and as (3dluis) you say that your about 98% sure when that "A" is there on the back under the 120V its a version 1.5 psp. . .
so here's my question:
which package PSP do i buy that will have the "A" under the 120V or whateevr on the back of the PSP box and that it 'will be version 1.5, do i buy the $249.99 (has sampler movie/music/game UMD disc, 32MB Memory Stick Duo, headphones with remote control, battery pack, AC adapter, soft case and cleaning cloth)
or the $199.99 (just the PSP itself)
so basically on which psp package do i look for that "A" on?
[much help is appreciated, and thanks for anyone who does!]

What game are you trying to get to work?

I'm not sure yet but you can cut out the UNESSARY bits like the update, the extras, the online (if your not going to go online).

The Giga Pack, is usually a G (2.01) or higher, The Base Pack (the basic with no mspd) usually has H cause its brand new, your best bet is the oldest pack which is the Value Pack (with the 32mb)
Notes - Remember you can get any
A-1.50 - You can get
B-1.51 - You can get
C-1.52 - You can get
D-2.00 - Not sure
E-1.52 - You can get
F-2.00 - You can Get
G-2.01 - Avoid At all cost
H or higher - Avoid at all cost.
If you do get one of the ones I said but its not A, than you can up grade it if not alreaddy to 2.00 (not 2.01) and than you can Downgrade it using the MPH downgrader tutorial.
But as Joeava said, it is hard to find these any more, thats why I bought my 2nd psp off ebay.

You just take the mph game loader folder and put it in your root and you put the other two folders in the PSP)GAME folder
another reason the games might not be working is because you need the fix for mph...
get it here

can you add this...this is the last time that i ask you do add something...
^*my kind of warranty*^
i was told to do this with a memory chip and i did the same concept withe a psp.
If you didn't know, your psp has a thirty day limited warranty. If your psp has a problem we can not fix then you can send it to sony, you can take it back to the store if you kept the recept, or you can do what i would do.
1st-buy a new psp.
2nd-then put the old psp in the new box.
3rd-return the old psp and bam new psp.
Now with that last one returning the old psp, that might have just had been luck for me. Just go in fast and get out of there just as quick. Just say that it wasn't what you wanted.;) I never got caught but i kindof think what i did was wrong :p lol. sure i was. but really.

I was trying to play Socom from ISO but can't seem to get it to work. Any idea/advice? Is the MPHGameloader only to boot 2.00 UMD's or can it launch ISO's.
