Hi all,

I just wanted you guys to know that I have successfully got this game working on a DVD-R 5 disk. Whether or not I am missing some of the cinematics in story mode is beyond me but I am willing to share my method with all of you because of everyones help in the past that got me playing most of the games I had trouble with. First and foremost, I am using a version 4 PS2 and swap magic 2.0. Second, I tried the other method listed previously in this forum (Ssparkers)and it worked but froze at the beginning of story mode during the first cinematic. The other method of compressing the files was just BS (infoman). I did not even bother with that, and you should take mine and everyone elses advice on that too unless you need extra coasters for your beers at this weekends party. OK, lets get started...

You will need the following to get this game working...

The original game (or the 7.35 GB ISO of the game on your hard drive).
Apache 3.0 Beta (not sure if 2.0 works or not)to extract both layers. I obtained this with a GT4 DVD9 to DVD5 tutorial.
PSS Down by Sonic (I used version 1.01).
CDVDGen 1.5.
CDVDGen ISO Builder.
Alcohol (or equivalent burning software).
About 15 to 20 GB of free disk space.

Either Extract both layers from the actual disk, or save the games ISO file onto your hard drive and extract it from there. This step is up to you.
Use Apache (I used 3.0 Beta)to separate the 7.35 GB ISO file into two folders. I labeled mine ATV0 and ATV1. There should be 16 files in ATV0 and 2 files in ATV1.
Get a copy of PSS Down, either version 1.0.0 or 1.0.0.1, and use 50% compression and select overwrite existing files. Leave everything else as is. You may want to make a backup copy like I did of the MOVIES and BGMOVIES folders in case you mess up. These are the two folders you will be manipulating. In the MOVIES folder, delete all of the files that end in A. FMV01A is the first one and FMV14A is the last one. There are 14 total. Now, drag all the remaining pss files into the PSS Down utility including the FRONTEND.PSS file from the BGMOVIES folder. You should have 18 files in there total. Downsample all of these files and when done, close out the program.
Now, open CDVDGen 1.5 and insert the volume info like usual.
The file list in Directory should be as follows:

SYSTEM.CNF
LIBEENET.TXT
SCUS_974.79
COFIG.XML
CNF
NETGUI
IRX
SOUND
STREAMP
STREAMT
MUSIC
STREAMW
ARCHIVE.IMP
ARCHIVE.BIN
BGMOVIES (the folder that was downsized)
MOVIES (also the folder that was dowwnsized)
PAD.TXT (just use the one from the second layer)

and after you extract the iml to the hard drive,
you need to piece the 000,001,002,003, and 004 files
together to create the ISO. These files should be saved in the same
folder as your ATV0 and ATV1 folders for easy access.

DO NOT USE IML2DVD!!! I had no luck with this
working. It kept going into infinity. Use CDVDGen ISO Builder!
It worked like a charm.

After you get the ISO built it should be 4.29 GB. I know, that
is a little big but it works on my ancient Version 4 with
Swap 2.0 so if it works on mine, all of you with later
versions of swap or any mod chips should not have any
problems. Believe it or not, there are no glitches or sound flaws
and the movies did not lose a whole lot of quality like I thought
they would. They actually look about the same in my opinion.

I used alcohol to burn the game but I am sure that any program
will do. DVD Decrypter or Nero are my other 2 choices.

For your info, I used Verbatim at 4x speed.

Now, insert your DNAS if you would like and patch it for
online play. I used WINDip.

Now Burn and test. If you have the same luck I do, usually
bad but in this case good, you should be off to hours
of ATV gaming. Please post your feedback and let me know
your results or post your questions and I will follow up
on them. I also want to thank Ssparker for the idea that
got me going on this track and his file list (which I also
obtained with ISO Buster) but still, many thanks. I have been playing
story mode for some time now and am zooming right through it.
No hang ups so far, everything is going smoothly. I hope you all
have success and until the next DVD-9....Peace Dudes!

Hi all,

Just a follow up on what I just submitted. If you want to try dummy pss files in replace of all the files ending in A you can do that too. I don't really think it is necessary but it may be better? I wanted 2 backups of this game so I am going to try it this way too and see if it is better. I will post my feedback as soon as I get it complete. In my eyes I really do not think it will make a bit of difference but I am just curious I guess. Like I said, It is working great, but deleting the files could have possibly changed the gameplay. I guess we will find out. Later Dudes...

Oh, and by the way,

The A files are for female mode and the non-A files are for male mode. I am going to try and delete or dummy all of the non A files and see if I can't make a backup of the female version of the game. It will be like a 2 disc set. My girlfriend likes this game too and I don't want her being a dude. That would make me look gay LOL. Another thing, you may not even have to downsample the intro, frontend, climax and possibly the credits because they are relatively small to begin with. I would still suggest downsizing the credits though cause they are over 100MB. You could also get by with compressing the remaining files at like 55 to 60%. So many options! Any who, let me know what results all of you get. Your feedback is appreciated. Later dudes, and dudettes :)

I just tried to replace the original pss files excluding the frontend ,intro, climax and credit files with dummy files of the pss files and downsized all but the intro, climax, and frontend on both versions (male and female) and here are the results... In summary, I really don't think it matters if you delete or replace them. The game plays the same either way. The only thing I did notice was that the female version is now 4.35 GB and the male version was 4.36 GB. The female version works flawlessly either way, dummied or not and the male version booted but hung up. I suggest that all the A files or non A files be deleted depending on which version you want to burn. I have my 2 working copies and my verict stands at this. My male version has all the A files deleted, the non A files downsized, and the credits and the frontend downsized and the climax and intro files left as originals. It seems to work good thus far. The TOC is at 4.29 GB. My female version has all the non A files replaced with dummy pss files of 2.65 MB each and A files downsized, and the credits downsized and the frontend, climax and intro files left as originals. It works flawlessly and the TOC is at 4.35. There are many combinations to try but I am sticking with these that I have tried until I run into problems if I do. I have not tried to make a copy leaving the female version files deleted instead of making dummy files but if the male version works I don't see why it would not work for the female version. Maybe if I created a smaller pss file to dummy with it would lower the toc even more? I don't know, try what you guys want to. I am sticking with what I have...Good luck!

IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!

Make sure all of your files in the MOVIES folder are in order. You may want to wait to delete the A or non-A files until you insert them into CDVDGen. Either way, just make sure they are in the correct order. This is CRUCIAL! Later on......

rent it from the video store or buy iy silly. I own it, just wanted back ups as I have of all my originals. If I am not editing right, I am going to read more on this site. Besides, now that ATV is working all of my work on here is done for now. Sorry for being such a dumb ass. When you get the game try this method though. You can't go wrong.

i doubt i will get this game to be honest boss,:)
not to keen on racing games,
its good that you posted how you compiled it,but no offence,if i did have the DVD-9,its actually quite a simple rip, that just needed some downsampling, like you said in your guide.
p.s,i would have kept the female in,but thats because i'm a pervert

:)
kind regards,hursty

You did not follow the directions right then because I have played both male and female versions and have beat them both. You need to follow the directions just right. It works on my v4 and v14 with swap 2.0 so it should work on just about every kind of ps2 out there. You may want to check your laser or try it again by following every step just right. It works 100%. But I really cannot prove that to you though can I? At least I can play it, not to be selfish or anything. Keep trying or post what problems you are having with the process. I found that deleting the A or non A files depending on the version you want instead of replacing them with dummy pss files works the best, and downsampling the pss files you want to keep. Let me know if you plan on trying it again...

Oh, and check your media and burn speed! That is very important too!

you can dummy them manually (text doc, renamed with zero bytes),or use a little program called ZeroFile Windows Shell Extension,(alucard.cc may have it),<<<< much easier way

extract the smallest pss file from the original game and save it to your desktop. it is 2.65 mb. Rename it DUMMY.PSS and thats it. Or you could rename it over and over again to the original name of the original pss files but that takes forever. I just find it better to put all the files into cd/dvdgen and then delete the A or non A files altogether. Thats how I did it and i know it is hard to believe, but it actually works. Do not delete the frontend intro or credits tho just the ones with fmv in them. The dummy thing only works on the female version anyhow because it makes the male version 4.36 gb so it is still too big. Take my word for it and just downsample the files you want to keep and delete the others you dont from cd/dvdgen. Hope you get it to work. AND REMEMBER, PUT THE FILES BACK IN THE SAME ORDER THEY WERE IN IN ISOBUSTER!!!

have you ever used the zero file extension?,its quite a handy little .dll file to have.
once installed, everything on the pc is right-clickable,and "dummy-able"
basically all you do is right click on any file you want to dummy, select "replace with dummy",the original file is deleted to the recycle bin.

does this mean that the disc won't work in ps2 or iml2dvd keeps on going? for me it builds the iso but game won't work
