I am putting it together right now. If I don't get it posted tonight, I will have up tomorrow night. I'm sorry that I was sidetracked with B-Day calls. It took up a lot of my time. But I will have the pics for you tomorrow.

This is a very basic idea of the things that you can do with the program DVD ReMake Pro. After the files are opened in the program your first thing to look at is the Video Manager.

When you hide all of the blocks that you do not need you will change their size in Mb.

You will also find some menu's within the movie that have a Mb size but does not contain any information. You may hide all of these as well. You may press the play button to make sure if you are not sure right away. after you have used the program a few times you get use to certain things. This next picture is an example.

Now we move to the main movie title. In some movies you may do as I did in the following picture. I do not want the 20th Century Fox logo on the screen before the movie starts. I can hide that block. There is a way to view the file before you process it to make sure that there is not any movie sound on the Logo before the movie. You may also remove credits at the end of the movie if you desire. For the most part I don't really mess with anything in the movie file except the opening logo. I will explain a little more about some additional features in a moment.

Now we move to the menu's in the movie. There are a couple of great features that you may use here if you so desire. Let's say that you have the main menu and after you press a button it shows a preview and the last thing that you see before you get to the next menu is an image of that menu.

That particular menu that it is going to you have edited not say something, like Spanish or French under the language menu. What you can do is stop the main menu at the place where you do not see the next screen and tell it to, "Cut From Here". There is also a way to tell it to, "Cut To Here". Now when you finish the DVD you will not see those words that you have removed.

You can also make custom menu's to go in place of a menu that you do not desire. I have Macromedia Fireworks 8 to use, but you may use other photo programs as well. In fact the files are exported as bitmaps so you may even use Microsoft Paint.

This particular movie is Eragon and did not have menu's such as what I just explained but hopefully you understand what I meant. If you notice in the menu above the area that is highlighted says, "Export Frame". Let me stop for a sec. and explain the easiest way to do this. Save each export under a separate folder. I create a folder on my desktop that I can remove later. I save each export in a separate folder. The reason I do this is because after the image is changed there is a free program called MuxMan. Open each picture in the program and you will send the output to the same folder. Basically what you are doing is changing your image file into a file that may be read by DVD ReMake Pro.

To be continued after I make another screen shot or two!
Okay, I'm back. Maybe this will help answer any questions that you may have encountered. PacMan777 was right!! pictures do speak louder than words!

Okay I mentioned changing menu's. Here is a picture to show you how to do so.

The next thing I mentioned was using a little program called MuxMan. This program will convert your image into VTS files for DVD ReMake to read. Here is a picture of the program. Notice at the top that the folder I created on my desktop was called, "A". Notice on the bottom of the pic that the output folder is the same location. This is where I will tell DVD RMP to get the file.

Now last but not least you import the file back to replace the original picture. If you notice in this picture that I am in the process of hiding buttons where words use to be. This is important to do or the DVD player will think that there is a button where there are not any words. If you removed French and Spanish Subtitle but you press a button that shouldn't be their it will not work! That is going to make take one more screen shot!

Okay, here is the last screen shot that shows you how to remove unwanted sound and subtitles from the movie. There is not a reason to worry about removing them because there is not a choice for them on the menu either. I also remove Directors commentaries.

Alright guys and gals. What normally takes about 30 min. turned in to about three hours! I hope everything is clear and if you have any questions feel free to ask. If you are interested in DVD ReMake Pro you may get it here DimadSoft DVD ReMake Pro I suggest getting the Pro version because the other version are not as versatile. The program is well worth the 50 bones. There is a forum to answer any questions that you might have. Remember that you must rip the movie before using the program. You are also allowed to make changes to the DVD Structure, but you really have to know what you are doing to mess with that. That is why I just hide stuff. More advanced users change the DVD Structure of the film and are able to delete files.

Read it when you get the opportunity. The movie Eragon I was able to do at a 72% compression ratio. There was only one menu that I changed. I do not like to change motion menu's into stills, but the "Special Features" only had Directors Commentaries on it. On that screen I removed the text and then typed, "There are no special features. Please resume film or go back to main menu." If I wouldn't have done that I would have had to convert the Main Menu to a still.

In the movie, "The Guardian" I made my own main menu. I took two pictures from the movie and typed the text for the buttons. It turned out great. You can't tell my movie menu is different except that it is a still. Nobody would ever know that I took a button out of the main menu. That is why I said that DVD ReMake Pro is worth every penny. I have only had the program for 3 months, and I don't even use VobBlanker anymore. This does more than VobBlanker can, but of course it cost money to get it. VobBlanker is free. I used VobBlanker for years and still say that it is a fantastic program, it just doesn't give you the flexibility that DVDRMP does. Feel free to ask me any questions. Most of them I will be able to answer. Just don't ask me about DVD Structure. Maybe by the end of this year I will have a good grasp of it, but right now I don't.

Hey syxguns,
I read your little tutorial a little more in depth (although i still haven't tried it).

I would like to point out a alternate way to remove buttons. This solution does not look as sharp as your suggestion to edit each menu image, but results in the same functionality and is a lot quicker.

I have been using it alongside VobBlanker for the longest time. Once I blank everything I need to, and after I compress to fit on a DVD5, (only if necessary), I then use a program called MenuEdit (which is made by the same company as DVDRMP) to remove button links. It's probably the simplest program to use and very straight forward. Use the program only if you don't know how to use DVDRMP because i believe dvd remake has the functionality built in.

So anyways:

**PLEASE NOTE: Editing the menus in MenuEdit will edit the files DIRECTLY, so any changes you make will be permanently saved to the VOB file (after pressing the last ok button in step 3) and cannot be undone!!! Be careful

1) just open up MenuEdit and open the VOB file that contains all the menu information (you may need to open them one-by-one in order to find the correct VOB. The VOB with the menu will most likely have the most IDs in the list.

2) Select an item in the list and remove any buttons that you don't need by clickinging on the button and clicking the Delete button. A good practice is to select "Hide and update commands as follows" and then select "Jump to non deleted button" in the sub-section. This way it won't totally delete the button, it will just move it off screen and ignore it.

3) Once you have deleted all the buttons you don't want on that specific menu, press ok, and it will ask you if you are sure you want to save the modified menu, press Ok

4) Repeat steps 2 & 3 for each item in the list until you are done.

I have found this method to be very effective and very easy. It's not as sleek and visually functional as syxguns's method but it get's the job done. You will see the menu item, but there will be no way of selecting it or going to it's related page. And the good thing about it is the entire process can be finished within 5 minutes. Hope this helps someone!

I created a 1.28KB image for using in DVD Shrink for Still Image in Compression Settings. I use it in Full disc to edit a Full DVD rip. I can go into Menus and select the still image for the FBI and copyright warnings. The short black screen I use shows for a few seconds instead of what' it's replacing. By expanding Menus and Extras, I can edit them as I like. Language and subtitle options are also available in Full Disc. Usually the most savings come from editing DTS and foreign language audio and subtitles. If interested only in the Menu and Movie, that is a choice that can be made in the rip process with RipIt4Me. It even has movie only. You can still edit audio and subtitles for a savings and if the menu is selected to keep, that can be edited if desired. Usually the savings are so small editing the menu, I don't bother. Shrink may not be the best editing tool, but when used properly, it does a good job. There is nothing else needed and no other programs necessary to learn. Then there are those like me who like playing with more buttons. LOL Rebuilder has made me lazy though. Less need to edit with it.

I agree that Shrink is a very useful tool. However, I like to keep menu's and to blank out the FBI and other junk. With my method I can keep the menu, but remove the buttons that I don't want by simply doing a little painting. If you have the right program to work with, it takes a little longer but in the end it was worth every second.

The movie that I gave a tutor on above, you can not tell mine from the original. Granted that it takes a little longer to customize the menu but the end effect is fantastic. I don't like using things like Menu Shrink or custom files that display either a black screen for a few second. I am able to navigate the menu's the way that I desire. If certain menu's are not needed, I am able to remove them completely.

Of course the program that I use cost 50 bucks, but it takes the place of VobBlanker which I use to use. With VobBlanker you can not customize the menu's but you can blank all of the FBI, Warning, and other screens as well as previews from the movie which saves a lot of space when compressing the file.

For the most part my little tutorial is not a free method to getting the job done, but one of the best methods to doing the job. I can give a full tutorial in how to use the features you mentioned and others. The best way to rip and burn a movie with great compression! many people on this site already have the knowledge, but for some of the newbies it would be a great tutorial. Unfortunately you know as well as I that most don't spend the time to look for learning tools!

Have you tried editing in Full Disc using Still Image with DVD Shrink? The warnings and other annoyances in menus and extras can be edited as I mentioned. I can remove the FBI and other copy protection warnings using the low content image I created. In Shrink the link for downloading still images is still good. There's even a spoof warning where Shrink is named. I did a screen capture of a black screen for it's low content and loaded that in still images for my use. In menus I can delete menu windows if they're no longer needed. Since I record in English and save the movie in the default 5.1 Dolby, I don't usually need the menu to change languages and subtitles. Be carefull with those martial arts movies that don't have English though (or similar situations). I can do a lot of editing with that little image and save a lot of space in Full Disc and maintain the menu funtionality for navigating. Funny, I like the menu, but usually I just skip to the main menu and select play.

Yes, I was aware of that feature, and have used it in the past. It is a good way to get a movie done for free, and it does save some space. The big question is blanking previews. Do you use the same method for doing that? I personally used VobBlanker to remove all of the stuff that I did not want on the film before I ever used Shrink. When I went to Shrink the only thing I had to do was compress the film to fit to a DVD-5. VobBlanker seems difficult at first, but after you use it a few times you find out how easy it really is. It only takes about 15 min. to process it after the work is done.

Really the only thing that I have an advantage over is changing the menu. In fact, I don't even have to keep the same menu. sometimes I find it easier to export a screen shot of the movie, sometimes two screen shots and recreate a still menu that looks professional. I have done this in a couple of movies where the artwork was going to be too time consuming. There are just a couple of things that you learn from experience. After you make the mistake once, you don't repeat it!

A lot of times the previews (trailers) are most of the Extras content. In Shrink just expand Extras and edit the titles. Click the separate titles and view on the Preview screen to see what's being edited. Same for any content you don't want. Just expand the content and blank as desired with the Still Image. Things like director's cuts and alternate endings in Extras can take a lot of the content on some titles like The Guardian. If those are unwanted, it's easier to use Movie + Menu or Movie only in the rip mode of RipIt4Me.

Nowadays most of my editing is done by automatic settings in Rebuilder. I don't find the savings or esthetics that improved by taking the time to edit all of the menus and extras. I have the remote to go directly to the Root Menu when the DVD starts. If I don't want the extras and/or menus, I lose them in the ripping process. I noticed that on The Guardian, most of the extras content was something I wanted, the alternate ending. Editing the rest didn't save much space. If there is nothing of interest it takes a second to check Movie + Menu in RI4M.

Back to Shrink. When I use it I find it has all the editing power I need the way it's set up. Most novices would opt to use the default Still Image and lose a lot of space savings, if they were aware of editing with Still Image. Then how many think of expanding Menus and Extras to view the titles separately. How many beginners are aware of the Preview function and what can be done with it? In Full Disc audio and subpicture options are available for editing. With the addition of Still Image in the last version of Shrink, we were left with a powerful editing tool I prefer over Reauthor. That stems from liking functional menus which Reauthor destroys. To each his/her own. Some people only want the movie and don't care about navigation. For those I sugguest Movie only in the RI4M rip.

For the perfectionists there's DVDReMake Pro, DVD Architect and other similar programs.

LOL Only if you consider yourself part of the group. ;) Sometimes my wife accuses me of having OCD. With some things I can be overly meticulous and others a perfect slob. The inside of my PCs have to be just right, but my desk looks like a bomb exploded. I guess I'm enough of a slob to upset the clinical definition. LOL

Yep, AnyDVD is a good program too. That's a good starter list. Let's see what you pick up if you hang around here too long. ;)
