Haven't tried it yet Norboo but my guess is it's probably not fixed.

Give me few and I'll download and get it a whirl.

And the question of the day ' Does the latest version of Nero - 8.2.8.0 - now work with Shrink?'

Nope

I've stuck with nero 7.8.5.0 for several months because of the problems with nero 8

What problems are those? I've got Nero 8 installed and need to know what to look for.

I have confirmed that the problem is 100% Nero 8 and even their newest update 8.2.8, did not fix the error.
I feel like a beta tester now.

Way to go. ;) I doubt we'll see a remedy from Nero unless it effects sales. Nero has Recode which is more or less a Shrink clone. Shrink simply no longer supports the auto burn using Nero 8. I contacted Nero support and they don't consider it a problem from their point of view. It would be up to the author of Shrink to update the program for future Nero support, but that's not likely to happen.

yup thats a no go being dvd shrink can bypass copy protection so theres no way they can update it. looks like the nero guys don't want us using dvd shrink anymore and use recode 2 instead

Well, add another to the list.. It's definitely a Nero 8 problem... I'm using the same copy of DVD Shrink that I've had on disc for well over a year... worked great with 7, but not with 8... I just finished using Shrink & Nero Burning Rom, but when I put in the disc I got nothing... then I opened Nero Express and pulled in the temp files that Shrink created and it burned fine... so, no Easy Rider with Burning Rom, but after Express it's time to go light one up! Hopefully this will get fixed soon, since it's just adding an extra unnecessary step... I could go back to 7, but I just don't wanna... It's always nice having the newest stuff... how dumb does that sound? I've also got CloneDVD, but will it shrink a disc down to size?

I don't know, how dumb does it sound for a Nero developer to keep adding support for DVD Shrink , when Nero Recode, part of the Nero package does the entire thing...shrink/author/burn?

Well hell... you may just have a point there... I don't think I've actually used Recode (speaking of dumb), but now that you've brought it up, I'm gonna give it a shot... thanks for the info...

I have said it in a couple of threads, nero 8 not being able to be automatically started from DVD Shrink, that is not a Nero bug!!! Is just people being accustomed to using DVD Shrink and refractory to change, or refusing to think!!

Try Nero Recode you'll like it. I prefer it over Shrink which I also use. I'm still on Nero 6, and perfectly content; since it does what I tell it to do, 100%of the time.

I also have had the skipping to odd chapters using Nero 8 and dvdshrink using Anydvd to break the copy protection. Never had that problem with Nero 6 or 7 using the same equipment, dvd's etc. While the disk would work on the computer they either would not work on a stand alone or would have the weird chapter problem. I then tried Recode to make the burn. Works great!!! You can see a little of the DVDShrink in it as it's suppose to have the same author .With shrink I would just burn the movie, remove all foreign languages, director comments, and take out all the stuff right at the start of the movie so the movie starts up immediately. Even take out the credits to improve the shrink rate if necessary. You can do all this with recode and like I said it sort of has the feel of shrink making it easy to figure out.

The reason I moved to Nero 8 was Fry's had it for $69.80 with $70 in rebates. I.E. i only had to pay @ $9 for shipping and tax. What a deal!!!

How many Murphy's Laws are there for me to run into anyway?

Unless you had a particular reason to update, that was $9 worth of entertainment money to play with a new version of Nero. I updated and so far I've not encountered anything I couldn't have done with Nero 7 (except Shrink auto burning). I set up ImgBurn to auto burn with Shrink (freeware and an excellent burner program with a small footprint). I may have had that set up before Nero 8. For me the loss of auto burning with Shrink was no great loss. There are some who still rely heavily on Shrink. For those, I suggest updating the Shrink exe and using ImgBurn as the supported burner. A lot of movies can still be done with just Shrink and a supported burner program.

If for some reason a user wants to continue to use Shrink and burn with Nero 8, they can always save the Shrink output to the hard drive and burn the output manually. For burning video from the HDD, I use Nero Express. I've used Recode, Express, and Nero Vision and all have functioned properly and the resulting DVDs play well in both the standalone and PC.

As has been mentioned many times in this thread and around the forum, Nero 8 Burning ROM is not a Shrink supported burner for auto burning. That's not a problem with either program. Nero is not obligated to write their software to work automatically with Shrink and the author of Shrink (who is supposedly employed by Nero) is no longer updating Shrink. So, naturally no updates for workability from that venue. My advice is adapt, use what works and don't worry about what wasn't meant to be. If you want Shrink, use one of the supported burners (which does not include Nero 8) or use the Recode from the Nero 8 suite, that or burn manually. Shrink and Recode are both good programs, so use the combinations that work best according to the particular system setup.

After using older Nero for a year, I have given up hopes of using Nero 8 automatically
within DVDshrink, and have just tried imgburn for the first time. Now that Nero is checked-Off from my DVDshrink settings, I discovered that DVDshrink asks whether I want to copy to an image or to files.

Similarly imgburn gives me the choice to build a DVD with an image or files.

Do both combinations work? Is one option better for some reason?

Thanks, Chuck

No, one choice is not better than the other. Depends on the user.

If you burn manually, when you select in DVD Shrink to create an image, ImgBurn will then burn that image to DVD( so you don't use the option to burn a DVD using files in ImgBurn, since you already have the image created)

If in DVD Shrink you chose to save the output as files( a folder on your hard drive), then you chose the option to burn a DVD from files in ImgBurn, and ImgBurn will create an image from those files and burn it to DVD.
So:
If you select in DVD Shrink to save as files--> ImgBurn "Write Files/Folder to disc"
If you select in DVD Shrink to save as image-->ImgBurn "Write image file to disc"

You can setup DVD Shrink to automatically burn with ImgBurn( instead of burn with Nero will give you an option to burn with ImgBurn), and then the ISO/file output will be of no concern.

Which begs the question... what is done when DVDshrink automatically calls old Nero or the modified DVDshrink automatically calls imgburn? Does the automatic method generate files or an image as it passes from the DVDshrink step to the next?

Yes:~)! With nero, I think DVD Shrink creates the Video_Ts folder and nero takes over and burns that to disc. With ImgBurn, DVD Shrink creates an ISO and ImgBurn will automatically launch burn that to disc.

Me thinks cyprusrom is correct in his explanation. Shrink creates the type of file needed to perform the burn option you select; whether it be with Nero Burning Rom, DVD Decrypter, or Imgburn.
