Folks,
I'm using the latest versions of both DVDShrink and Nero. The recorded discs play fine on my computer using Media Player;but, on my stand alone DVD player things are terrribly messed up.
Older recorded discs using an earlier version of Nero play just fine. I'm thinking that Nero is doing something in the encoding phase that makes the recorded disc unreadable. Is there some setting in Nero that will turn this "feature" off?
Any and all help is much appreciated!

Hi jtray_1
No email ady's allowed (forum rules) so edited that out of your post.
Sounds more like a media compatibility problem then Nero.
Post back the media you are using - like Sony +R 16x.
Burn speed used
And make and model of the burner.

yes using blank media like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim burning between 4x and 8x max should playback on most anything!

I'm believing this is a NERO problem. I've had the same issue and have been using the same media as before (HP DVD-Rs, when it worked). I tried switching to Memorex +Rs the other day and still have the same issue.
Since the same media worked fine for over a year, I don't think thats the problem. I did upgrade DVDFab HD Decrypter, but I have a hard time believing that it is the cause.

try doing a clean reinstall of nero
you're choice of blank media isn't the best HP/memorex both will probably code out as cmc mag which alot of people have trouble with and the HP you used last year could code out different than the ones you are using now run them though DVD Identifier to see
as i said you're lots better off using quality media like Taiyo Yuden and or Verbatim burning at 6x to 8x max!

I usually use Verbatims, but the HPs worked flawless for over a year (same batch, spindle, whatever you want to say). The media wasn't changed when the error started. The only variables are NERO 8 and the newest DVDfab HD upgrade.
Now, I agree that Memorex usually sucks, but lately when I've been using 1 Click DVD on my other PC, they have been fine. And for the price they were it was worth trying them.
I'm 99.9% sure that it is a NERO 8 problem just because the media hasn't varied. I just wish I had an idea as to what it is doing.

i would try reverting back to nero 7.8.5.0 or above and see if that takes care of the problem.
its not a beta version of dvd fab decrypter is it?
because sometimes the beta versions don't alway work correctly being the bugs aren't worked out of it

If Nero8 is a problem, it's not showing up with what I've been doing yet. I've been using Nero8 8.1.1.0 to burn and I'm not having problems. With problems like those mentioned, I'd check the files before burning to make sure it's not a problem with the files being burned. If not the source for the burner do as others have mentioned, try another burner to see if it's the Nero8 you have loaded. ImgBurn is a good freeware choice or try the trial CopyToDVD from VSO. Before doing anything else, I'd try recording the Shrink output to the hard drive. Check it to see if there are any problems, and then try burning the files off the HD using Nero Express or with the regular Burning ROM interface, whichever is easiest.

Uninstalled Nero 8, installed Nero Ultra 7 (7.5 something actually).
Worked fine. Used the same DVD files I was using before that gave me the error, same DVDs, etc.
I don't know if it was the edition of Nero, or what, but it seemed to be the problem. Annoying, but no big deal since I still had an old copy of Nero 7.

I just burned 5 dvds in a row with Express from Nero 8 and not a problem with one of them. Something may have gotten corrupted, but I don't see the program being bad. A lot of Nero 8 is updated software from Nero 7 with a few additions. I agree with those who say that a lot of times when Nero does an upgrade they could just as easily done an update of the current version.

I too am not having a problem w/ Nero 8. One good thing I can say about Nero is their single layer and cd burning is good.
Now I don't do a lot of scans but playback is fine :)

I'll have to retract part of my take on the DVD Shrink and Nero 8 situation. I found out what's going on. Normally I back my output up to hard drive and then burn with Express. It's from an old habit. Well, burning with Express, as we've learned works with Nero 8. The problem is the auto burn with the Nero Burning ROM. It leaves out the Video_TS folder. Without the Video_TS folder the standalone player tells you the feature isn't available or some other fault. Wonder what's going on there. I'm going to drop a line to Nero to see what's going on. Other owners should do the same. Just say the Nero 8 isn't recording the Video_TS folder, just its contents, when set to record automatically using the Nero Burning ROM. I've not tried it, but I suspect Recode will be okay. That's next. The DVD plays okay on the PC. Everything is there, it just won't go on the standalone. So if your options are limited, burn with Nero Express or another option.

What media are you recording on? That plays a big factor as well. Plus, how old are your drives and how much have the been used? Deterioration in the optical head and drive can cause scan variation, even though the output is still playable. Are your scans as good as those 6 months ago using the same media and comparing it with old burner ware and new burner ware? Too bad you probably don't have some of the old media to run a burn with current burner ware to get that data. Why don't you run off some scans for Nero 6, 7, and 8 on TY and your current brand, if not TY, and post the results for us?

I'm using TYGO2s and TYGO3s burning at either 8x or 6x with new drives 2 Plextor/Poineer PX-810SA and a Lite-ON LH-20A1S
my old drives were PX-716As they were shot
like i said the playback is fine but the quality scores could be better sometimes it may be a problem using the TY value line instead of using the premium line, but the quality scores seem better almost everytime with clonedvd 2 or IMGBurn

Thanks for the input, but as long as the output plays fine, I don't usually worry about doing scans. I normally use those for diagnostic purposes when media starts acting up. There's too many variables to get too picky over quality scans.

I use the autoburn feature w/ Shrink and Nero 8 and haven't had a problem w/ playback. I'll just need to figure out which ones I did using this :)
Might just be better if I check if I try one of tomorrows new realeases instead :)
I've used Recode quite a bit and all has been good there for me too.

Are you checking those recoreded discs on a standalone player? I'm using the latest Nero8 and when it goes to burn auto using the Burning ROM, it leaves out the Video_TS folder which was created in the past. The incorrect structure messes with most standalone players, but will allow the files to play on PC software. Both the Shrink 3.2 and 3.2 with ImgBurn support create a Temp folder without a Video_TS folder, so it's not the Shrink version that's changed. This is with Nero8 v8.1.1.0. Nero Express and Recode apparently haven't been changed.

Yes - I rarely watch anything on my pc's - occasionally the laptop when the weather is nice :)
I know I did a few in the past few weeks w/ Shrink (I don't use it all the time) just to test out Nero 8 & Shrink and I've pretty much watched all of them.
By the time it takes me to figure which ones I used Shrink on - it's probably just faster doing a new release coming out tomorrow.
I'll let you know.

Remembered a movie but I used RipIt4Me (Mr. Brooks) - Nero autoburning w/ Shrink.
I checked and disc and there is a video_ts folder. I'm using version 8.1.1.0 - still haven't updated to latest one. So I don't know what the diff is.
But I did see this post on my.nero so something is up:

I spent some time and a couple of setups checking this out. I used the same DVD running the same version of AnyDVD as the source for Shrink. I used both the Shrink with ImgBurn and the original Shrink 3.2. The temp file for both versions of Shrink contain only the BUP, IFO, and VOB files. With Nero 7 audio_ts and video_ts folders are created for the Shrink output on the burned DVD. A lot of standalone players look for that structure. With Nero 8 no audio_ts or video_ts were burned to the DVD, only the BUP, IFO, and VOB files. I have a Philips player that recognizes the Nero 8 recorded DVD, but it hangs on one track and keeps repeating. I have a SV2000 recorder/player for the entertainment center that won't open the disc at all. So, it ends up none of my players play the Nero 8 burned DVD. I'd suspect the number of complaints would be greater if there was more Nero 8 in use. The Nero 8 version I'm using is the 8.1.1.0 downloadable from the net.
I suspect if other Nero 8 users having problems with auto burned DVDs check their DVD, they'll find no video_ts folder. The incorrect DVD structure definitely causes problems with a lot of standalone players. If you have one that plays, then you're among the lucky ones. I'll reload the Nero 8 program with a fresh download and see if that helps, but it doesn't appear a corrupted installation is the problem.

Well that's what is odd - using RipIt4me w/ shrink autoburning w/ Nero 8.1.10 - last week on Mr. Brooks I checked the disc tonight and it shows 2 folders on the disc - video_ts & audio_ts.
I'll have to try one tomorrow maybe just using Shrink and see what happens.
Maybe RipIt4Me is the variable (?).

It may be. I'm going to reinstall the Nero 8 and try RipIt4Me and some other variables to see what happens. Let's hope it isn't AnyDVD acting up again. But the lack of the Video_TS folder looks like the source of my problems. I'm using the CleanTool and recommended installation process with Nero. So I doubt it being a flawed installation.
