Dr. Chips:

I have yet another question for you. With my old DVD burner, I was able to decrypt my movies with DVD Decrypter and use DVD Shrink, and then Nero to burn them. I could play them on my older Panasonic DVD player no problem. Now when I burn my movies with my new burner, and use the same media, and the same programs, I can no longer watch them on my panasonic DVD player. Are burners different when it comes to burning a movie, or is my Panasonic DVD player being difficult?? This is quite strange to me why just switching burners would give me a problem. If you have any anwers for this one I would much appreciate it. Thanks!

Dr. Chips:

You around anymore?? Did you ever check out and test why DVD Decrypter will read at a faster rate after the ASPI drivers are installed?? Did you have an answer for me with my previous question?? If you have a minute, I would like to hear back from you!! Thanks!

Hiya steve38,

Back again....

The change of burner stopping your films playing COULD be coincidental, but also may be due to the following:

Burners can be a bit fussy about the media you use, and give you a "successful" burn that does not work the way you expect.

A change in the system can upset software used for burning, the favourite for that is Nero, requiring an un-install then re-install.

If I remember correctly, you had an NEC and replaced it with a Pacific Digital, Yes??

As to the DVD Decrypter read speed thingy:
I have done a quick poll among a few of the forum members, and my conclusions are thus:
Those who have burners complying with the DVD Forum "Gentlemens Agreement" all get read speeds in the 2X range irrespective of ASPI or not, those with newer drives CAN get an improvement with ASPI, and those who use a DVD-ROM for ripping get even higher speeds.

So it seems that SOME burners will give a rip-speed increase with ASPI and some will not, where ALL DVD-ROMS will see an increase.

Hope this clears it up for you...

Dr. Chips:

Thanks for your input, and I will try to uninstall Nero and do a reinstall to see if this helps the problem. Like I said before, sometime I love computers and other times I hate them!! Just like the burner deal and why some will read at a faster rate and the aspi install helps and sometimes it does nothing to help. Ahh the questions of the universe....lol. Maybe gravity or the position of the earth has something to do with it...lol!! Anyway, I really do appreciate you checking things out and giving your input into my many questions!! If you ever need to get in touch with me, you can e-mail me at steve22465@hotmail.com!! Take care!

Dr. Chips:

Have another one for you. My friend asked me if you can burn music on a DVD and be able to listen to it. If so, can you do this using Nero, or what software do you need?? Any help you have would be greatly appreciated on this subject...thanks!

What format does he want to burn in?

MP3?
SACD?

It could be put as a DVD-Video with NO VIDEO component and the audio component at the highest bitrate..

Have Fun...

Dr. Chips:

Sorry for taking so long to get back with you. The format he would be using is MP3. I am not familiar with the SACD format. If you have any suggestions I would more than welcome any input you may have and how to go about it as well. Thank you!

Some DVD Players will play MP3 on CD BUT NOT ON DVD:
Some will play on DVD, but only in the root directory:
Some will only play CBR MP3s:

It is a suck it and see situation I am afraid.
My CyberHome will play everything, maybe I am just lucky...

Have Fun...

Dr. Chips:

I have another one for you....lol!! I can't believe I have more problems now with a faster burner than I did before with the slower burner. The problem I am is when I back up my DVD's, toward the end of the burnt DVD the movies start to freeze. I don't know if it is the media, or if it is the burner, or something else. I never had a problem with the old burner, but now I am experiencing problems with burnt movies. Maybe Khypermedia isn't a very good media to use. They are 2.4x media. I just bought some "value Discs" from the same company and it does the same thing. Guess I should spend a few more bucks and get some decent media. Not sure what the problem really could be. I am using DVD Shrink as I did before, and am using Nero to burn them. I use the UDF/ISO DVD format. UDF 1.02, and mode 2 for ISO. Any suggestions of what could be the problem?? Thanks, and the DVD's are DVD +R's. Not sure what the big difference in +R's Versus -R's. Thanks!

Hiya steve,

Disk media is the MAIN culprit....

Cheap media
Incompatible media
Poor quality media

The list goes on and on.

Lots of the problems in these forums are media related.

Start off with Top-Quality media (check your drive manufacturer for compatability list - if I remember correctly you have recently bought a Pacific Digital)

Once you have everything working sweet, THEN you can experiment with the comapatbility and reliability levels of cheap disks.

I only use Pioneer drives and good quality media, as do many of the more experienced members here - we pay the extra for good reason.

Hope this helps...
