No the GOW 2 you have is a ripped version. DVD9 to DVD5 so that is fine.
I have no idea if it works with cogswap or not, as not all backups work with it.
You can try using the cdloader.
1. The CDLOADER.ELF program should load and on this screen you should take note of the bottom left corner of the screen. It should say ?PS2 DVD".
2. Press Eject and insert a high toc original such as the GTA or Devil May Cry DVD and press eject to close.
3. Wait about 7 seconds and press x.
4. Once the screen that says "swap dvdr by ea method" comes up swap the high toc original DVD with your dvd-r backup using fliptop/knife trick and press x.
I haven't used this program in quite awhile, so I hope thats proper procedure.

I copied the game directly from the original disc. I didn't do anything to it yet. So if I have a dual layer dvd. Can I just burn on to a dvd9 disc? I have a lot of 8.5g blank dvd. they are dvd9.

Not unless you have a good modchip or PS2 hdd that will play DVD9.
Otherwise you need to have it as DVD5 disk.

O!! That's why. you should told me this a while ago. I just wasted a DL dvd. well that's ok. I took it from a friend. Thanks for your help. I gonna just go buy the game. by the way, the game manhunt 1 for ps2 doesn't work for cogswap do you know why?

lol, I should have told you.
You said its made from the DVD9 and its only 3.96GB so I figured you had the ripped version.
You also said you hadn't done anything with it yet, lol.
Well now you know and sorry you wasted a DL disc.
Did you try Manhunt 1 with Cdloader and see if that works.

Yes if you load too many. Four cheats, maybe 5 is good.

There is no physical affect to the PS2, I would say its better to get a fliptop also, than using the slide tool.
With Playing backups, the laser can last for years or go sooner. Just seems to depend on the Version of console.
But it could do the same playing Origninals too.
Using good quality media helps.

I can't say for sure, something no one can promise you. My V7 lasted over 3 years before I replaced it, and my V14 I have used for 2 yrs.
And they have had their use believe me.

Mine is a Maxtor. I recommend Maxtor, Seagate.
Western Digital Hdd's need to have the network adaptor modified to fit.
So I don't recommend them unless you want to mess around.

Yes God Of War II works on the hdd using the hdloader 8c.

No but if you have a usb flash drive, you can launch uLaunch and go to filebrowser, then select /Mass and copy the hdloader.elf by selecting R1, then hit triangle to go up, and go back to mc0 (your mc) and then hit R1 again and select paste to put it in the memory card.
You can then make a shortcut to it, by following C/ of the tutorial.
