Burnt at 4x and at 2.4x on Verbatim DVD+R DL discs (one made in Singapore, the other India... both coded out as MKM001 anyway) with NO PROBLEMS on 2 BENQ drives flashed with iXtreme 1.4.1 with the 12x FW.

The ONLY thing different is I'm using the NTSC version.

Thinking maybe something wrong with the leaked PAL version?

I've tried on a xbox with BenQ drive and a Samsung drive both with 8x and 12x speed. Still same problem. I used many many different media types, inlcluding Verbatim. Burned at 2.4x speed, and 4x speed, still same problem, i used ImgBurn and i have the PAL version released by ICON group.
And maybe, you're right, maybe only the PAL version has the problem.

BTW, has anyone tried it on a xbox with a BenQ drive with lower reading speed like 4x?

Thank you all for your replies

I have burned a couple at 2.4x on different media. Using a Hitachi drive in my 360 set at 8x. The problem is the first 2-4 times I play the game it crashes, almost till the system warms up then its grand. I just keep throwing up read disk read errors but then after the 4th time is grand, no crashes at all.

Strange, it only happens on GTA.

I have the same slow rendering problem with my benq elite...my hitachi79 works fine. I'm waiting for my special edition next week, so it won't matter 2 me anyways.

So it seems to be GTA runs smooth with the Hitachi drives, do you have the pal version?

I've got a Hitachi drive and burnt the game at 2.4x and verbs. Game is working fine, gone more than half way through the game without any problems.

The texture rendering is a bit slow when I enter and exit buildings

ntsc version,it was really unplayable, almost to the point of being broken on the benq in my bedroom.

Does nobody seem to care wich motherboard in combination with the Benq is used? I'm saying this, because I don't think it's all about the drive. Some textures seem to pop up in advance after the waterpaint textures, a sign that the drive reading speed is not the only issue.

I think it's a combo. I burned 2 copies (one verb at 4x one verb at 2.4x with NEC burner and clonecd), and both work fine on an older Xbox 360 with Hitachi/Samsung. But they also have other motherboards...So I don't think it's the drive only. The combo with this Icon release with an Benq and connected motherboard should be the issue. Why else wouldn't I see any difference and improvement after setting the drive to 12x.

Let's hope for all you Xbox lovers the original will be smoother.

I have a BenQ with the Falcon motherboard. I also have an older xbox with the Samsunbg drive. I burn games with my Pioneer 111d burner on Verbatim discs. All games work perfect, except GTA IV. And you're right, i didn't see any difference changing the speed to 12x. Only the loading is a bit quicker. BUT again, plz someone try it on lower speed, like 4x or something, maybe you have to go slower, and not faster.

okay enough with the b***sh!t.

If your afrais ur gonna get banned. DONT burn it or play it. that simple. its been rumored that you can uplug you HD and just roam around. But who really knows if you still can get banned for that.

Second, i have a hitachi 78 8x burned ntsc gta4 at 2.4x with verbatim singapore. NO PROBLEMS what so ever. None with loading, which is very quick.

And to try and shift the topic. I asked this before but didn't get much of a response.

I'm like 15% into the game. I have moved buildigns once, but i am yet to find places to buy. Or garaged to buy. Anybody further than me can confirm that you can do this?

I read on Gamespot forums that someone has lowered the reading speed from 8x to 4x and he says that he have no problems with popups and slow texture rendering. BenQ drives are the fastest one, and i think thats the problem, plz can some confirm this by flashing it down to 4x speed. I can't do this by myself, cause i don't have the correct equipment for.

Hi all. I'm also having the texture loading issues.

Benq drive on a Falcon board. PAL ICON release, burnt once at 2.4x and once at 4x, both on Verbatim DL +R Singapore discs. Same issue on both burns. iXtreme 1.41 firmware, at 12x.

I don't have a HDD though (yet, getting it this week), so not sure if that contributes to the issue.

I'm tempted to hire the game from a video shop and see if the original game has the same issues.

im pretty sure that if you have been reaing these posts, you can tell that almost everyone that is complaining about a problem, got the PAL version. So thats most likely your problem.

I'm thinking the texture issues are only w/the benq drives. Me and my roomate are both playing it, i have noticed some stuff taking a while to load, and glassy/shiny faces during 1 or 2 cut scenes. I have the benq and he has a hitachi, haven't noticed anything on his at all. They are both flashed w/ 8x i believe.

edit: i think i'm about 35% percent through it and he is like 25-30, this problem doesn't seem to appear alot, just a little annoying. Usually happens right after loading a new scene though.

I was on the pirate bay tolking about the texture problem. And someone say some intresting things, he said:

There isn't an other copy, as far as I know. There probably will be one some time today, but I don't think it will solve your problem.
You are probably better off buying the original.
Or try burning it on somebody else's DVD-writer.
Your DVD-writer might just not be powerful enough to burn the disc deep enough. You won't notice that with most games but GTA4 has very dense data on the disc that is very heavily compressed.
It looks like your Xbox360 just can't retrieve and uncompress the data fast enough.

So mayby that's the problem
