Goodness, and no, they are not the same. Think about it. If your console is banned, then that means no live profile would be able to go on live with your console. But if only your account is banned, then all you would need to do is make another account on that profile, and then you're set.
Please, people think before you post, and no rumors!

Is it possible that those two errors came from different ban waves? Because I have heard people say they got that new message "This console has been banned for violations of terms of use" on this ban wave and a different error on the last one in November of last year. We're all just trying to figure this out together so you should calm down and have a discussion.

I'll agree with that actually! Some people decided to modify their xbox 360's and violate M$'s Policy, so you deserve the ban! I mean ya I wouldn't want to get banned, but that's a risk you take when you modify your system!

Yes that is something new, compared to what you needed to look at before. Before, they didn't give an actual message saying "This console has been banned for violations of terms of use". Instead you had to do a Network Test, and when it failed, you needed to look at the Error Code, to see what was written in the line for 'Z:'. I don't remember what numbers it would give you, but there was a certain number that meant you were banned!

there are more different BANNING NOTICES< im not going to post em as someone might say WELL I NEVER SEEN THAT BEFORE, maybe if u did your homework you might now something, so i consider my online credit more worthy then those who say no they are the same , NO THEY ARE NOT.
And YES even if you did do the network test, YOU WILL GET THE CONSOLE NOTICE. I have been personally BANNED from live ONLY from my live account, thats why I KNOW the difference form teh 2 from experience.
If you really want to know how I got banned, I was in a game on a Friday night play with the XBOX PEOPLE night, and unfortunately I played with trixie, If u dont know her then your really not an xbox person.
I called her a fat carpet muncher thinking it wasnt her and within 24hours my account was banned. SO dont claim my evidence is wrong when all you have are words.

Has anyone on here been banned that didn't play Call of duty 5 or gears of war 2 early,or a pirated copy?, I have a Benq with ixtreme 1.4, and I checked to see if i was banned, and as of right now im not. I never play games before they come out, especially if its leaked weeks before like gears of war 2 I think the only game I ever even played before its release was Tales of Vesperia, but that was only a day before it was out, but hey, if you did get banned from playing one of them before they came out or from a pirated copy,really how pissed can you be?, theres always a risk, And a possibility of it happening. and now it has.

People need to say exactly how they got banned, i agree with the person who says ppl shouldnt just say IM BANNED
Give info on it like
Did you play a leaked game before release date, what was it
what firmware do you have
did you just sign on and ban or
did you pop in a backup game or original game when banned
what message are you getting when doing a network test
try and create a different account and sign in to see if it works
was it a region free disc
and so on...
Im not going on lIVE till this whole issue is resolved and we know the problem

tavek, you usually are a pretty level headed guy, I can't see why you're GOING OFF WITH ALL THE CAPS AS IF YOU'RE REALLY PISSED OFF AT SOMEONE!!!! I'm not saying there isn't such a thing as an account ban, I'm just wondering why Microsoft would be dealing out account bans to people who have modded firmware. Perhaps they're not, perhaps the account bans are for playing games early or insulting other Xbox Live people. I don't see why everyone is getting so pissy about this, We're just throwing out opinions and theories, I've never claimed to KNOW anything. Quit acting like children or we'll never get anywhere.

Just so you know, there was a fix for the BenQ's iXtreme, when it came out, so iXtreme 1.41 is the latest for the BenQ's drive. You might want to make sure you have that!

In addition to the above post on what information that might be helpful, I would also mention that if you played a game pre-release, or if for any reason think a game you downloaded caused your banning, put who released it.
Like davgerm4 had said, it could be a bad release from a group. So that info would help also.

good finally got rid of u. im pretty sure when he said the console vs account ban were the same that he meant in this case when ppl have called microsoft they are telling them even tho it says account ban it is console ban, so in this case they are the samething.
i just hate how u go into a thread were ppl are discussing something and everyone is throwing around ideas and no one does know what they are talking about u still insist on pointing out BS when it isnt needed. I would think that anyone with half a brain would already understand that this is a forum and ppl are going to be wrong about stuff here and there and post their thoughts. so i dont see why u feel it is so needed to bitch people out over it. I bet u spend so much time being pissed off at ppl that u ruin ur whole day.

other forums discussing this are poining at the seed4me releases as the culprits, i know they released fallout 3 and fracture but dont know sepcifics about how many ppl were banned from these releases.

Just so you know, there was a fix for the BenQ's iXtreme, when it came out, so iXtreme 1.41 is the latest for the BenQ's drive. You might want to make sure you have that!

As for accounts being banned, I'm with the others. I've never read of an account being banned. Banned means you're not coming back. I've seen suspended accounts and I've seen gamerscores wiped to zero, but never an account banned.
And yes, I've seen that pic of someone suspended until 9999 before. It's quite old. And that was just a fluke.

I was banned last night. I was playing Farcry 2. I have been playing CoD:WaW but legally with a code from their website. It is a live ban i got the message that i have violated the terms of service. Damn M$.

Tonight when i get home i will give more information on who made FarCry 2. I have never played a game before its release. Also i was banned as soon as i turned on the xbox because under the profile it said connect to xbox live instead of automatically signing me in. I also got the Z code that corresponds with the ban when i ran my network test. I will see if i can get on with another silver account. As far as the list bhetrick listed i have only played the beta of COD world at war legally with legit code from website and farcry 2 i have never played the others.

And stealthdf, if you would actually go on the IRC and talk with the other modders, you might actually know something! You got to get it through your thick skull that Account and Console Ban are both different! They are never the same!

i know they arent the same i was just saying that was what he may have meant when he said that. As in maybe it was an error and displayed the wrong message when it was actually a console ban.
He said that when ppl were calling MS they were being told that even though it said account that it was actually console ban. I know myself that there is a difference between the 2. maybe some of you guys should look up what hypothetical means and then stop bashing people for trying to figure something out. NO ONE here is an expert on this we are all just users of the same product. If someone here works for MS then please give solid info and back it but untill then speculation is always going to be present. If we all knew what we were talking about we wouldnt be here in the first place discussing any of this.

Touche ! Finally a fellow freedom fighter shares a true vision.
Heres some KNOWLEDGE 4 those scared out there.
I have 2 360's, both play live with 2 diff acounts, only 1 used for early release games the other in case a quest comes over (halo, cod4 etc)
I switched both hard rives, no bans on either, why I did this was to check if indeed it would lead to a console ban regardless of accounts, I HAVE PLAYED EVERYTHING, ALL EARLY RELEASES AND ON LIVE.
Fallout, GOW2, etc.
And im no expert, but like I said I have had my account BANNED for calling trixe a fat w+hore. I thaught it was funny but not for $50.

lol. That's funny. I seen her picture on the xbox homepage, and she does look like she may enjoy an occasional Whopper or two.
But that's a different story. Yes, you can get your account banned, but you have to be provoking it.
But modded consoles and account bannings have never gone hand-in-hand before, just modded consoles and console bannings. And this thread being about the latest round of console bannings, that's why you're getting touble about mentioning account bannings.
It's just a misunderstanding.

i know it hard to understand for some so allow me to break it down..
console ban = console gets banned
account ban = account gets banned
there, now everyone knows what is going on, and no one is confused.
now get back to playing your games instead of worrying about someone elses account being banned!
