using anydvd and nero you have a few options
1. rip with anydvd using the anydvd ripper
2. transcode with with recode 2 or 3 depending what version of nero you have.
3. then burn with nero
or
1. run anydvd in the background transcoding with nero recode
2. burn using nero

For this though ZoSoIV the only 2 options right now are doing a disc copy using Nero Burning Rom and probably express with AnyDVD's latest version 6.4.8.5 using a dual layer disc.
Or running the latest AnyDVD in the background w/ CloneDVD doing movie only.
For this option you need to set AI scanner to 'always enabled'
(settings>Video DVD> Settings>AI Scanner).
With Slysoft aware of the problem and according to staff member at their site they should have this one solved before the release date.

curious. Are the moderators, owners of the site?, etc not worried just how many threads these type could cause. Hey... I like options but wow. Imagine if there were 6 new releases of dvds/Bds per week. thats 312 threads a yr. And thats not including everything else. Am I alone here in thinking that maybe we should have ONE common thread aimed at "Trouble Backing up Protected dvds"? I dont know. Thats my 2 cents. Heck, the dark knight isnt even FULLY released yet and there's a thread. :)
To delete, or not to delete. THAT is the question!

Hi guys. So what's the deal then? I posted a thread on TDK not knowing there was this one already. What about DVDFab Plat? Have they been able to come up w/a fix to TDK? Or did I miss something? Thnx.
@ Creaky If it's warranted move or delete my thread on TDK. I wasn't aware this thread was here. Varnull linked me to it.

Nope we're not owners - just lowly despised forum 'police' :)
For the threads well having one would get very long to encompass all releases. It does get very confusing at times. Just my opinion but anyone just starting out one long endless thread would confuse the hell out of some of them. So we stick w/ one thread per dvd title.
Luckily some members have access to get them pre released hence the early thread. Plus side is if there is a problem they then alert Fengtao and Slysoft who work on a fix before the official release.
@dr_ml422
Nope DVDFab even Platinum isn't handling this one yet.
I closed your other thread too btw :)
Right is the ways I mentioned above plus I left one out that was reported to work from rdmercer1 'ghost dvd and with shrink, also i used dvd region +css free with shrink'
What I find ironic about this one having the newest/hardest copy protection is that a dvd quality screener was floating around the net maybe a month after it hit the theaters. I guess they weren't concerned at that time but now they are....

@binkie7 Yes they were (WARNER BROS), For "The Dark Knight" theatrical release, Warner Brothers launched an international anti-piracy campaign in effort to deter bootlegging pirates from profiting from the release of this film and creating premature over exposure of the film(I read the artical here @ afterdawn). They focused on parts of the world where piracy is rampid like Australia and China. But like you said and like I've seen too. Files and screeners managed to surface anyway. I estimated that because of this that the DVD release would to be cherished by Warner Bros. But who knew they would employ such a unique encrypting approach.

"But who knew they would employ such a unique encrypting approach. "
LOL. Like other encryptions before it... IT WILL FAIL. People have a right to make a spare copy of that which they purchase. They really need to throw in the towel and aim their money at production. in my opinion, a happy customer is a spending customer. I would spend 50$ to go to a movie if I new it wouldn't be a waist of time. E.g LOTR, The matrix, ironman, etc. Little food for thought WB! :D
To delete, or not to delete. THAT is the question!

Hi binkie. Thnx for posting this fix and closing the thread. I wasn't aware Fab had that dvd region +css free proggie. I thought it was the free one on their site. Free dvd. I think I'm going to get it even though I have Plat. Have you had it for a while and how has it worked for you so far? Thnx.

@ZoSoIV This title as of yet cannot be ripped using AnyDVD , DVDFAB DVD Decrypter, RIPIT4ME VOB BLANKER (There are a few other popular or non-popular software options). I own NERO 8 and using Recode 3 all of my back up attempts i.e. disc to disc has failed. I take that the suggestion of using CloneDVD w/AnyDVD set to AI scanner set to(Always Enabled) does work though my experience is that this title all but shuts down, freezes, crashes the latest version of CloneDVD. Currently it appears that the structure or encryption on this title make for non-compressable sectors that only allow this title to be backed up in full to an 8.5 DL DVD media (encryption included). I have a NERO log that is very long but might be able to assist those who have not had the chance to purchase this title understand just how uniquie the encryption is on this title.:)

So if I read this thread correctly, only options is to dual layer using AnyDVD and nero?
binkie what did you also use when you said that css region free w/shrink handled it? Was it just those 2? And was it also just to dual layer?
@ n2dvd After backing it up in full disc w/encryption still on, which I don't understand how that could happen, and if it plays back well that way, can't it be encoded w/dvdrebuilder to compress it and fit it onto a single layer dvd disc?
Tell you the truth I just get a buzz out of tackling these flics that throw us off for a bit. I didn't even like TDK all that much. Too long and about an hour could of been edited out. That's moh though.
The rush associated w/sticking it to the Big Shots and adding to my enthusiastic rapport w/digital video is what keeps me having this as the best hobby ever.

No worries on the log - I think most of here are used to Nero logs :)
@dr_ml422
That's one of the few programs I've never tried. It probably has a free trial so give it a go.
If I was going to buy a program though I'd recommend AnyDVD. Since you have Fab Platinum you should be good - just need to wait for the fix for this one.
The fix I posted w/ originally posted by rdmercer for ghost and dvd region - link.
The CloneDVD and AnyDVD method is posted here - link
Worse case scenario for me if AnyDVD doesn't have an update to handle this by the 9th is doing movie only with the AI scanner set to always enabled option.
edit: add link I forgot :)

Para NINOCONTI
Que pasa Paisano????
-Use Nero 8.1.1.0 y anyDVD 6.4.8.5
Slds.

YEP...@dr_ml422, My back up is encrypted....I have posted the AnyDVD logs to prove it here on this thread. That is not unusual as I believe some encoding software reads and instead of halting to an apparent sector error, the program chooses to duplicate the sector as is, granted you have enough destination space for filing to your hard drive or disc. NERO 8 Burning ROM did this by cloning the original as oppose to deleting or blanking the bad sectors which often can lead to back up failure or software crashing.
AnyDVD did change the navigation or play of my back-up as selected in AnyDVD. The title starts from the main menu and when you select play initially I get the blue rating screen then the movie begins. The original disc starts with the blue warning screen then a Warner Bros PSA then the blue rating screen and then the movie begins.

I don't understand all the desperation.. If you have bought the thing then watch it and put it away for a few weeks until these payware scammers get their act in gear.
Only the "rent and rip" and "buy my burned copies" brigade need to be panicking about not being able to copy it. All this panic and desperation sets my alarms off..
I had it in my hands for 4 hours.. ripped main movie, remastered and burned as pal dvd.. no sweat.

Why put it away for a few weeks when it will be easier - me I'd rather have the challenge of a tougher one to back up. Not desperation at all imo.
Then if you have kids add that factor - hell I'd want to back it asap too.
But by the time this one is officially released for sale and available to rent in the US on 12/9 that may be a mute point.

@ N2DVD Did you mean decoding instead of encoding? The 1 click apps. transcode which is totally different then encoding. They also decode or decrypt the encrypted file or dvd. Nero 8 Rom is a burner no? Isn't what you put in what comes out? I use Imgburn so that's exactly what happens and imo Imgburn for burning is way better than Nero. Again what you put in is what comes out. Now a encoder like DVD Rebuilder will encode the full disc in dvd 9 mode using encoders to properly make it fit onto a single layer dvd disc. You mean that after you ripped it to full disc there was no way of even using a encoder to fit it on a single layer dvd disc? If that's so than we definitely have a doosie.
I know Nero is weird in regards to certain apps.. Like Media player Classic for instance. It won't play back .ISO's unless Nero is installed. Otherwise you need VLC which is great anyhow.
I agree w/binkie and all the others that the challenge whether via ourselves posting about a wall we hit w/a dvd or waiting for the big guns to come through, is what makes this whole genre interesting. Otherwise I'd still be buying and stocking my house w/cases of DVD's and put my pc's for sale.
N2DVD can you load your new copy of TDK into your drive and open it up so you could send the IFO files to Fab? I had the movie for a hot 15 mins. so I can't do it. Here's a address to one of the support techs at DVDFab. wendy@dvdidle.com..
@ binkie I tried Anydvd and liked it also but missed out on getting it b4 the price switch. It's still on my to do list as it will repay itself quickly. To my understanding that region free css from Fab is like Anydvd correct? Being able to use another proggie along w/it to rip a dvd and then copy to a disc?

@dr_ml422 Yeah...decoding (I'm a little tired), I also went back and I too can back up the "main movie only" with ClonDVD & AnyDVD (latest versions). Successfully. Maybe there is hope after all.;) Tip...for you guys with ConvertXtoDVD you can run your TDK movie only file through ConvertXtoDV and create your own menu with auto buttons in place. Just drag and drop or select a still image of choice from your image folders as a backround and re-convert to DVD.
