silimtao,
In response to your question, yes and also to others. Your statement about what 321 told you was exactly the opposite of what they told me. I don't dispute your word. They may have changed their policy or the tech may not have all the info from legal. You spoke to them since I did. They are still hurting from court. Part of the rumor goes that they are afraid of repercussions of copying, yet their new software does the same. A person can run AnyDVD in the background (it's a ripper) and copy movie files using the 321 software. A legal process so far using legally obtained software. As of date, I have seen nothing outlawing AnyDVD and the new 321 software.
The company guaranteed the software and sold it with guaranteed tech support. So, if they break the agreement, you have legal rights, like a refund of your money or replacement software.
I am glad I have all my versions backed up on disc and know where my activation codes are.

Apparently 321Studios are moving their servers to Canada, so you will be able to upgrade when they get set up in their new home. Should not be long.

I have a question about the RF Version of DVD XCopy Platinum, with the ripper fix. I do have the RF Version as well as the ripper version. Using the RF Version (with the ripper fix), is the quality of the movie you get as good as the quality when using DVD Shrink/Nero combination?

GrandpaBW, or may I call you Bruce?
There is no difference in quality between the the last non RF version and the latest RF version with the ripper enabled patch this is also comparable to DVDShrink / Nero. All I am trying to do is give you back the software that you paid for with your hard earned cash to do a job that the "powers that be" have decreed is not allowed.
In brief: you should get the same results with all the software you mention, EXCEPT for the non RF version will give you the annoying "DVD Backup" screen.
May I also say RE: you signature, as a 'Nam vet, you have my utmost respects sir.

Thanks for the information, PsiDOC. I just tested ripping and burning with the "fixed" RF version, and it make a great copy. I like Shrink and Nero, but just wanted to test another way to achieve the same end.
Thanks for your kind words on the signature.

As a long time owner of Platinum, I know a little about the program. I've also used shrink for a long time. One advantage, and the only one I know, that Platinum has is the ability to copy the movie only and leave in the menu function and scene selections. With Shrink in reauthor, the menu is only recorded as icons (stills). Platinum will let you split a big movie onto two discs. Other than that Shrink Is a lot more functional.
And once a disk is recorded you can even stick the recorded disk back in and let the shrink scan it. If it says the movie is recordable, you usually have a good recording. Just a quick check one sometimes can use. I only mentioned it because that use isn't in the guide. With the Platinum I've found it is a good idea to record the movie only with large movies. For some reason express, which automaticly edits, or runs full disc just isn't good for big stuff.

Use the search function, type in bouducon.dll and enter search, if you don't have the file, the patch won't work, you're replacing a file that is named.

bro bear my frien... Thanks for answering, but I already did all that "search" stuff. There is no "bouducon.dll" file on my computer. I have DVD Extreme and it has many programs within it... one of those programs is dvdxcopy express rf. I am lost here. Everything I've read about the 321 patch indicates that it will work on any copy of xcopy xpress. Well, my copy comes with DVD Extreme not platinum. Is there anyone out there that you know of that might know how to get this to work?
Please help. I spent 100 bones on this program, and it don't even work.

What the Rip patch does is change the bouducon.dll in the RF to *.bak and replace the original file with one from a ripper version. Ask PsiDoc what he thinks in this forum. Since you're dealing with a name and not the function the patch can't find where to go.

I have re-written the patch to be more intelligent, as some seem not to be able to find the correct folder to execute the patch in. Well if the installation was performed in the dafault location then the patch will do the work for you. If it's not it will prompt you to locate it manually.

slasher,
You should be able to go directly to 321's site and if you can't find a download call support and they'll set you up with a proper download. They take pretty good care of their customers, they really do -
As for 321Rip, it's free, we don't sell anything around here -
Here's the link: http://321rip.tripod.com/
Enjoy,

PS If you really have an extra $50.00 to throw away, send it to the Crippled Children's Fund

Quote: I have re-written the patch to be more intelligent
I have both the Ripper and RF version. It seems that when I got Platinum and went to the site to register it asked me to download a new version. It turns out it was the RF. But supposedly both will co-exist on my system. Up to now have been afraid to try. Switched to Shrink but it seems to have died on me.
My question will 321rip replace the dll on my ripper version, or just the rf version. On your site it says if you have more than 1 RF version...what if you have the ripper and RF version.
Hate that splash screen. 2 of my players sometimes hang on that screen for up to a minute or more.

Hi
I just downloaded the RF version (321RIP installed) and tryed to copy MONSTER and in the burning phase it failed and said to see log.
I couldn't find the log anywhere.
Does anyone know what causes this and is there anyway to fix it?
Thank's

Pany,
As a long time owner of Platinum, I can say the two exist well together. It would be safest to open the patch in the correct folder to ensure the right file gets replaced. I think the patch is set to go to the correct folder, so give it a try first, if you don't know where to locate the bouducon.dll file. If for some reason it replaced the file in the ripper version, it wouldn't be a problem. You'd just be changing a ripper file for a ripper file, no foul.
Since you have both copies of the program, you can switch files manually. Open both programs in separate windows explorer windows. Rename the bouducon.dll file in the RF version to bouducon.bak (so you can change things back if you want to down the road). Copy the bouducon.dll file in the ripper version and paste it in the RF version.
That gets the RF to ripping on it's own. This was being done before the patch. The 321 patch makes it easier for those not knowing the correct file or uneasy manipulating files.

The Log folder resides in the 321 program folder inside the Programs Folder. You have to use windows explorer to open it up. Once you get the message, it may or may not be of help.
Since XCopy has a problem with animated movies, I always check to make sure there is a problem other than not handling a particular movie. Copy a short movie you have successfully done before. Use an RW so you don't waste a disc. If it still works with the other movies and not Monster, use another program.
I had problems just recently with Jungle Book 2 and Lion King 1 1/2. In fact, I've stopped even trying to use the XCopy for animated Disney movies. Waste less time using something I know will work.
If DVD Shrink won't work and now the XCopy is failing, maybe you're running into software interference problems. Check the first suggestion and get back to us.
