Thanks brobear
I will look for the log file. I dont know if its there anymore since I closed the program.
BTW the movie was MONSTER rated R with Charlize Theron or something.
As a newb I went and got DVD Cloner II and have been very successful with it, but I'm hoping to use Xpress too. I will have to get a RW disc.
Thanks Era2000

I've got animated movies on the brain. I was thinking Monster INC. If you deleted the program the log file left with it. If you only closed it, the program stores the logs in the Logs folder. Just look for the last in the series, if it was the last log.

As anyone needs a checklist with 321 software, here is a tier 2 tech bulletin from before 321's lose in court (when they were still supporting ripper software). If I post this in enough spots, maybe people will see it. It is a good checklist of things to look for before installing the software or anytime one suspects a problem. One should make a copy of this bulletin if they own 321 software. This is relevant with or without the patch. Also, some of these programs effect other recording software.

Here is the bulletin:

The following programs can cause problems while using our software. Your situation sounds like one of these are installed:
1. B's Clip: This package will load a packet-writing software that will constantly talk to your CD/DVD writer, and can cause a number of issues while trying to write a disc. Disabling this software is not enough, as a portion of this package is always running after you start Windows. You will need to uninstall it in Add/Remove Programs, then reboot to remove it.
For more information, visit the B's website at http://www.bhacorp.com.
2. Direct CD or Drag to Disk: These are applications from Easy CD Creator from Roxio. This package will load a packet-writing software that will constantly talk to your CD/DVD writer, and can cause a number of issues while trying to write a disc. Disabling this software is not enough, as a portion of this package is always running after you start Windows. To remove them you need to go to Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel. There you can select Easy CD Creator to Change - not Remove. Then you click next until it gives you the option to Modify. Then either Direct CD or Drag to Disk should be selected and changed to "make this option not available". Then click Next. While the program may look like it is installing, it is actually removing those options.
For more information, please visit Roxio's website at http://www.roxio.com/en/support.index.jhtml
3. GoBack: This is backup software that constantly runs in the background (Terminate and Stay Ready) which not only needs to be turned off, but disabled. Unfortunately, this may cause some restore points to vanish, but it will free up a lot of hard drive space.
For more information visit Symantec's web site for GoBack at http://www.symantec.com/goback/index.html
4. DLA: Also HP-DLA, Veritas DLA, and others. DLA stands for Disk Letter Assignment. This package will load a packet-writing software that will constantly talk to your CD/DVD writer, and can cause a number of issues while trying to write a disc. Disabling this software is not enough, as a portion of this package is always running after you start Windows. You will need to uninstall it in Add/Remove Programs, then reboot to remove it.
5. InCD: This is packet writing software that comes bundled with Ahead Nero Burning Rom.
For more information go to Nero's website at http://www.nero.com/en/
6. Interactual Player and PC Friendly Player: These programs are DVD software viewers that often come on DVD movie discs, and will try to install themselves everytime you watch a movie on your computer. Please make sure to NOT let these install. Both programs interfere with all 321 Studios software and should be un-installed from Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel when found. In some cases, you will need to uninstall and reinstall our software to restore functionality after removing one of these.
For more information about both players, visit http://player.interactual.com/
7. McAfee Anti-Virus: This is anti-virus software that when running, can cause errors. It needs to be disabled by right clicking on the icon in the lower right side of the task bar. The 321 Studios software then needs to be restarted. Whenever you are using our software, McAfee needs to be disabled to ensure unrestricted access to your drive.
For more info go to McAfee's website at http://us.mcafee.com/default.asp
8. Norton Anti-Virus: This is anti-virus software that when running, can cause errors. It needs to be disabled by right clicking on the icon in the lower right side of the task bar and the automatic updates should be disabled. The 321 Studios software then needs to be restarted. Whenever you are using our software, Norton needs to be disabled to ensure unrestricted access to your drive.
The Norton Website is http://www.symantec.com/
9. StopZilla: StopZilla can hinder required portions of our installer, causing the software to fail. Please completely disable StopZilla, then install our software. Once our software is installed, you may safely enable it again. If you have any difficulty using our software at a later time, you may need to disable StopZilla before going to use our software. Uninstallation is not required.
10. MyStorageGuard: This backup software can hinder certain required files from being copied during the installation. Please disable this program before installing our software, and have it disabled any time you go to use our software. Uninstallation is not required.
11. Napster 2.0: This software includes some basic burning software that can cause burning problems if it is running. You will need to close this program completely before trying to use our software. In some rare cases, you will need to completely uninstall this package to attain full reliability, so if disabling does not solve your issue, please try uninstalling this software, and try again.
12. Easy CD Creator 4.x: Due to the age of this package, it is no longer updated by the authors. There are bugs present in this older system that will cause NUMEROUS problems on your machine, not just with our software. Please Uninstall completely, and consider either the new 6.x version from Roxio (http://www.roxio.com) or Nero 6.x (http://www.nero.com). These packages, installed without the Packet Writing software (DirectCD/Drag to Disk/InCD), all work very well together with our software.
13. NTI FileCD: This program has packet writing software installed with it. This package will load a packet-writing software that will constantly talk to your CD/DVD writer, and can cause a number of issues while trying to write a disc. Disabling this software is not enough, as a portion of this package is always running after you start windows. You will need to uninstall it in Add/Remove Programs, then reboot twice to fully remove it.
For more information go to NTI FileCD's Product page at http://www.ntius.com/default.asp?p=cdmaker/filecd_main
Spyware and Adware - some programs can install other software that can be damaging to your Operating System. Please scan for these programs with a Spyware utility. We recommend Ad-aware, available freely at www.lavasoftusa.com
If you perform any of these changes, you may need to uninstall our software, then re-install to fix any damage left. If you find some of these packages, please shut down and reboot twice to ensure that the last pieces of the conflicting software are completely removed.
Every version of windows requires updates. These updates correct a multitude of problems that are found, on many levels.

You will also want to update your Direct X control to insure full functionality of any of our programs. You will want to download, and install Direct X 9 from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/downloads
Certain programs running in the background can use system resources and cause our software to experience burning issues.
To disable your start up group go to start, run, and type in msconfig and hit enter, then click on the startup tab.
Windows XP(Home & Pro):
If you are running Windows XP you will click the disable all button.

I am new here and I had a question. Is the RF version even possilbe to find? I have searched every way I know how, and cannot find it. I just want to be able to rid myself of the backup notice, which as best as I can tell I either have to do a simple backup, or have an older RF version. Any info would be appreciated.

Hi all,
I am still around. Been a bit hectic @ work (14 hour days... Killing me!).
pany:
321 rip will not touch your existing ripper enabled software version of Xcopy. All it does is patch the RF versions.

sam_adams
Which version of Xcopy do you own? Xpress, Gold, or Platinum?

Why people keep asking the question" where can I get the RF version"? If you are a legal owner of the platinum, you can call Studios 321 and activate you account, so that you can download the RF version from their server, or if they still have some CD left, you can get it for $8.

Ok About 6 months ago I got dvdXcopy Platinum verison 3.2.1. When 4.0.4.15 RF came out I ordered the CD for $8 and was told by 321 Studios to use my ID and password that come with verison 3.2.1. I just put in a new hard drive so I had to use my password for 4.0.4.15 still works with the ID and password from verison 3.2.1. Have you people even tryed to use your old password and ID??? Once again I was never given a new password. 321 Studios told me to use my old password that came with verison 3.2.1 and it has worked every time I have had to register it 4 times with just 4.0.4.15.

The only stupid questions are the ones you don't ask. If you don't ask you will never know.

xbadboy2,

I used my old license and password also ... but you need to have RF downloaded and saved already. I requested a new RF license to see if I could download it again from 321studios again. If you remember there was a brief time nobody could download RF.

So if you don't have RF, and you wanna download it ... you have to get a new RF license. I did have it save already, I just wanted to see if I could get it from 321 again :)

Yea, I downloaded it awhile ago ... didn't want to spend $8 on every version that came out. Anyhow, Xbadboy2 ... did 321 studios at least reset your activations to 10?

Yes they did reset my activations to 10? All you have to do is call them and ask I have never had any problems with 321 studios. All the time they keep you on hold/hpone I will just spend the $8 for the CD.

Tried it manually but when attempting to burn it went straight to Fianalizing Disc. It appeared like burner was burning. Did this for about 40 minutes before ejecting. Disc did not work in DVD player and appears to be blank.

I then ran the patch and then reran copy process. This time it did burn correctly. Don't know what went wrong, possibly the version of the .dll was not compatible with the RF version.

Pany,
Strange that it would work that way. Glad you got things going though. PsiDoc made the patch smart, so it goes where it should. He took all the work out of switching the files.

Don't know which version of the program you had or version of bouducon.dll. I used the 1.3.5.103 version of the bouducon.dll file to replace the one in RF. I believe it was from XCopy version 4.0.3.8. I believe that is the same bouducon.dll file that is being used in the patch. Unless they slipped one in on me, that was the last version before the advent of RF. If not, then close to it.

Hey flip
We were just discussing the patch and it placing the file instead of doing it manually. I don't know if an older file would cause the problems described by pany or if the file was damaged. The patch replaces a file which can be done manually if one has both the pre RF and RF programs (don't know about pre 4.0.3.8 files). The patch just makes it easier for those not wanting to do a transfer or not having access to the older files.

brobear,

That's a good question. When I did the clean install on my gateway, I only installed RF and let the patch run automatically. Now on my Dell I have both v4.0.3.8 and RF, and I patched it manually.
Quote:
Since you have both copies of the program, you can switch files manually.
The order I used was:
Delete the bouducon.dll in Platinum RF first.
Copied bouducon.dll from v4.0.3.8 and placed it in the RF folder. This way you don't get two bouducon.dll's in the RF folder.

Flip,
No problem with your method. I rename the file in the RF version bouducon.bak and then copy the file from the ripper version. Why one would want to is questionable, but this method allows changing back to the original program. Delete the ripper version of bouducon.dll and rename the bouducon.bak to bouducon.dll and you're back to RF without the ripper. The patch creates a bak file which gives the return to original option. By deleting the file you limit your options.

Don't know if you ever noticed. When upgrading the 321 programs, there was usually a bak folder created with the previous version files.

I never noticed the bak folder. Honestly, I didn't notice the bouducon.dll change till you brought it up :)

I wasn't the first. Xbadboy2 was the first who clued me into the location of the bouducon.dll file. I wasn't willing to set down and go through the files to hunt down the one with the ripper function. Not enough patience.

Since DVDXcopy can use HD files, I simply used an emulator and ran the decrypted files through the RF program that way. Nearly as fast if you practice the method (except XCopy is faster at ripping than most). AnyDVD also did the job if I wanted the program to record on the fly like the old ripper program. So doing the bouducon.dll swap just made things easier by keeping the ripper in the program.

PsiDOC did everyone a favor when he did the Rip patch. He simplified the installation of the bouducon.dll in the RF version.

Here is another one for you. You have a Logs folder with a record of the various burns. I go in occasionally and delete these if I no longer have a need for them. If you get a bad burn, sometimes the log can tell you why. They're set in numerical order.

Yea I know of the logs ... don't get errors anymore, and don't use XCopy much anymore. But the times I do, I'll clean out the log folder.

And yes you are right, much thanks to xbadboy2

Yes, Xbadboy2 and PsiDOC did a lot of people a favor. Didn't know if you knew about the logs or not. I've had questions about the logs and don't know how many people know their location.

Sort of bad XCopy wasn't developed more. The Feds nipped it in the bud. Now some other programs have started to overshadow it.

I haven't tried the Xtreme programs yet to see how good they work. I know if one is going to use them for encrypted programming, they have to have a ripper program. I don't think anyone has come up with a patch for these programs yet.
