It never gives me the smaller list or asks me to write anything where I have to press Y to confirm.
I have a PSP SLim running 3.80 offical. It's only when I get to the option to install the 3.71 M33-2 software. I already have a Datel Tool battery for my PSP Slim, I just need to be able to downgrade it so I can upgrade to the CFW.
Thanks. Attached is an image of what it looks like when I do that.

HELP PLEASE! I get up to the same part. Then after that it just goes to the credits and says press any key to continue, then it closes the program. I never see this screen...

Does this mean the magic memory stick wasn't installed correctly? I then put the stuff in the add-on folder into my psp, i put in the mms and then the pandora battery (by the way i hardmodded my slim battery myself) then the psp turns on with a blank screen and the wi-fi and mem stick lights are not flashing. I tried the holding the L button and ac adaptor stuff and still nothing. I have a new psp slim with 3.80 official firmware. Please help, thanks.

Hey,
Try using XP instead of Vista. You probably didn't format your Stick right. Go back and read pg31 on this forum. You'll be surprised on what you miss read....**hint** **Hint**

i say it's not recommended to use a 4gig; i never said 4gig memory sticks doesn't work as a magic memory stick.
approximately 70% will use this as a one time deal, and then format the card to get back the space, for other uses. at least with a smaller memory stick, you can just use it solely as the magic memory stick, not worrying what you have to delete off the 4gig to make space. a smaller memory stick is more efficient because you're not going to waste space; the magic memory stick will not exceed 1gig. a full install of the u.p.m.s. emerald version only uses 125mb.
what happens when you go full brick, and don't have a separate card reader? you're screwed. and i know there are people who won't fork out the money just to buy a reader, or doesn't know anyone with a memory stick reader.
i don't think of the one time use. i think of the longrun, efficiency use, and possible bricks in the future.

hey guys nice tutorial it's actually what made me thought I could actually mod all alone my psp.
So what I have is a psp slim with 3.93 official firmware
I bought a datel tool and a new sony memory stick of 1GB (to make the magic memory stick)
So I got home tonight planning to create the magic memory stick and then the other day to charge the datel tool and downgrade my psp.
The problem that I'm having is actually with the installer
I double click on start.exe and it starts for a second and then it closes.
Any guesses?

I tried to use this Guide a couple of times to make the MMS, but I was having no luck. Vista would not install the last part of the MMS that allows the battery to boot up. At first I thought I was just having a problem with my battery, thinking it could have been a fake (I bought it off of eBay). I used my mom's laptop to create the MMS and I had no problems after that though. The Universal Unbricker installed properly and I have a nice 1GB MMS now. So, the moral of the story is...I hate Vista. (I've hated it for many other reason, but this is the newest). Use XP to create your MMS.

I've created the MMS with both XP & Vista and still have had no luck. The program keeps closing before it gets to this last part.

I've downloaded and re-downloaded it 4 times now on my XP system and still no luck. Any advice?

Same here...just haven't tried it on Xp yet. Do you need Windows Xp with Service Pack 1 or 2 installed? Or can you just use Windows Xp?

Make sure when it ask you "Do you want to format this drive.? [Y]" You must type in Y and Enter.

Yea that wasn't my problem though, the problem for me was both times when the program is supposed to ask you that, it didn't. Only advice I can give is try multiple computers until you get one that works. I had to try 2 different computers running XP before I got it to run right.

Slightly reassured to hear I'm not the only one exeperiencing a problem with the installer skipping a step. Now I've been carefully watching it like a hawk to make sure I'm pressing Y followed by enter when I'm supposed to, but this section just never appears:
The files will now be installed to the Memory Stick.
After it has finished writing the files you will get an image similar to below. Just type Y and ENTER to finish the instillation of files to the Magic memory Stick.
FYI, I'm using XP not Vista
Where I've not followed the guide (and this is the ONLY instance) is the fact that I've bought a Datel Hot Wire instead of a service tool. The difference is that the battery is a Pandora's out of the box and doesn't require you to slot your original battery into it to convert it, thus eliminating the slight risk of causing your battery irreversible damage.

Hey guys just a heads up, the guide had made me thought about it. Since making the Magic Stick itself had nothing to do with unbricking the PSP, I've tried making one with a card reader and it works perfect too. If for some reason the magic stick doesn't work for you, maybe you can try using a card reader that you may have which bypasses your psp in case that was the problem, cause I have seen a psp not reading on a certain computer because of software issues (like certain software being installed that blocks the installation of the usb driver). Also for vista users, maybe turning UAC (User Account Control) off may help, you can turn it off by going into user accounts option in control panel.

So you ran through the start.exe program but the files never got install on the magic stick? I would double check and make sure you've given the program the right location of the memory card, next thing I would try if you have a flash drive that you're not using, you can try putting all the files on that and then transfer over to the memory card, although I haven't tried it, I don't see why it wouldn't work, I can test that theory when I get home.

I am however now downloading the all-in-one file, rather than each part just to make sure I didn't somehow mess up extracting part one and having some sections from parts 2 and 3 not download, which is what I suspect may have happened, simply because when I extracted part one (with parts two and three in the same folder) the created file was of a smaller size to the combined size of parts 1 2 and 3 (if that makes sense).

Right, well I've now installed the all-in-one file to the stick but it's still not working. I'm still just getting the blinking green light and a blank screen, but if all of the files have been copied to the card this time I really can't see what the problem is if the battery is working.
My only other guess, is that the card I'm using, while an official magicgate supported one, might not be ideal for the job (apart from the fact that it's size is probably overkill) - it's this one here on play.com:

wait why would you have an M2 card? I've tested the package on 3 different cards and they all work fine (512MB, 1GB, 4GB) but then again they are all MS Pro Duo, not the M2 cards.
To be honest I'm not sure if you can't just have the Magic Stick content copied straight over. I'd say try it on a MS Pro Duo card first, if not try a stick of flash memory card, then just transfer over to a MS Pro Duo card and try again. if it's still not working maybe you can have one of us here to make that stick for you.

and something else might need your attention but im sure you've got it covered. I actually have both the service tool and the datel battery itself. I got the battery first and i had to give the battery a full charge before i got my first PSP unbricked.

I'm assuming the AAA batteries that were supplied with the HotWire were fully charged, but then why would the power light be blinking green? Maybe that's my problem, maybe the Hotwire won't activate without enough power in it?
Does the power light actually blink green with a pandora battery in service mode, or is it steady green?
