Hey yall, I had an idea to make a pro ps3 thread so we could have a legit thread which hopefully won't attract ms fanboys,complainers,and arguement's despite the fact that I like all gaming system's including the handhelds.
I'll try to keep this updated with news,links,and pro ps3 fact's and topics starting with the one below.Thanks ahead for listening and posting.

I actually wonder about the spin speed of the blu-ray drive within the ps3 being 2x and not say 8x.Is this a good thing? Most dvd player's are higher and it makes me wonder how good the movies will look.Does anyone have some knowledge about that?

More information is stored in the same amount of space on a blu ray disk than a DVD, so it doesn't have to be spun as fast for a laser to read the same amount of information.
As for movie quality, there is no difference between the Blu-ray and HD-DVD; both encode stuff as either MPEG2 or MPEG4 AVC, so don't worry about quality.
(ps I'm very much opposed to a pro-only thread. You really shouldn't exclude other's opinions just because they aren't similar to yours. Hearing all sides of any issue (console) is the best way to form an educated opinion. I realize you've become tired of the negativity, but I think the best thing you can do for yourself is listen to what they have to say, and then go find some good information to counter them. There are some die-hard sony haters around here, for sure, but you'll find that those kinds of "trolls" are the easiest to prove wrong)

Thanks for the info, I figured it was something like that.I'm just so used to having seen 8x-16x and such.
Look many of us who don't bash the ps3 have different opinions with each other.I never said other opinions shouldn't be posted.Asking me to find info and counter them is like asking me to start arguing, something I'm not trying to do here.
We have about 100 of those types of threads already and really don't need another.Besides I already know their opinions b/c they have told us a thousand times.

Just my 2 cents. I'm still up in the air about ps3. Blu Ray player, great, but from what I've read lately, sony has failed to release developers tools to the game makers. If it is ever released, will there be games for it? A couple of weeks ago Microsoft made a move on Sony and it was quashed. Now if you read the techie news, seems MS is starting to push towards Toshiba and HD DVD. I don't follow much on the xbox, but if there isn't a hd dvd drive or add on soon i'd be suprised. I'll start to read the xbox news. Format wars are great.

Sony didn't exactly fail to get the dev kits to developers they just didn't get the final one to them until recently.Yes there will be games and already are.Check out that trailer I just posted in my last post.That's a ps3 game.
Yeah sony and ps3 will be Blu-ray and ms and xbox360(and toshiba) will be for HD-DVD.Ms has stated there would be a add-on HD-DVD player for xbox360, as to how much it will cost we don't know ,but I think at least $200 and maybe even $600.

They are releasing a HD-DVD add-on.
What move did MS make on Sony?

I think I know what your talkin about with the move on sony.
A few weeks back ps3 still hadn't been pushed to november ,but when it was announced that it would be microsoft made a move and put like(I don't know the actual number) a million more consoles on the shelves.
Thus ms made a move on sony.But maybe I'm going somewhere else lol

The reason MS can't buy out Sony is that they would be shutdown. Taking out an equally large competitor with money, makes you a monopoly...

Nope, I don't bash. Microsoft is a big as it is because of the driving force behind it. To be the biggest you buy up competition. Exploit their works, and use them to your advantage. Tenacity and drive is what it takes. A company that big will step on or flatten some toes along the way.

Just caught the part about ms fan boy. I've only got sony, the only ms is xp. EDIT> You guys can type faster than I an. I didn't buy anything. I saw quickly that sony stood firm, I think it was just a ploy to shake consumer confidence on sony. But it will be a fight. I'm just playing devils advocate.

Codydog if that had any effect on sony I would be very suprised(to say the least) this rumor was going for years though.
I think it is and has been a ploy though or maybe just wishful thinking by ms fans dunno.Besides MS didn't write that article.
Now ms will never have the $ to purchase sony but maybe nintendo.

Sorry, fell asleep at the comp, it was 3:30 am here. No I didn't see the trailer. But read the news this morning, half a dozen articles contradicting what was said just a couple of days ago. Seems sony will nix the 20 gig hdd and offer the 60 on the base mod. 20 gig, that surely was a joke. 60 is not too funny either.

I was just wondering if this applies. Considering yea more info is stored in the same amount of space, but it is only possible because of the smaller wavelength of the laser. So technically because the laser is smaller it would still have to spin faster because its not covering as much surface area on the disk everytime it spins.
I dont know if this applies to Blu-ray at all i was just thinking bout your explanation and it didnt make sense to me. If you have any more info pls explain.

I find it odd the very person who was so against the mentioning anything but the ps3 in the ps3 forum has now mentioned nintendo, as well as bashing bill gates of Microsoft.
And I thought I couldn't be more dissappointed with this thread...
