Doesn't surprise. Is the source of these rumours a reliable one? Never heard of Kotaku before... Either way it'll be a good system, but if the specs fall and the price doesn't, then I'd be pretty dissapointed in Sony!

The link is lame and stupid.
"the phantom insider"
Gimmie a freakin break .What news did he reveal before? They don't say!
This guy aint nobody dude.If he didn't want to lose his job so bad then what the heck is doing the interview for lol.
You know why you haven't seen this on ign, gamespot, gamespy etc.because they don't want to put misinforming trash on their sites.I'm not saying it's not going to be down graded but e3 was like what 2 months ago and this guy know something we don't? The whole thing sounds pro microsoft to me.

Very true, and good to hear from you Tycobb! The fact it isn't on any reputable site to note is because it's either completely untrue or hasn't been confirmed yet. Either way it's only a rumour I guess. If those previews at E3 on PS3 were developed using a PS3 with such downgrades then who am I to care! :D

Hey timmy! Yeah I sometimes don't post for days lol.
"If those previews at E3 on PS3 were developed using a PS3 with such downgrades then who am I to care! :D"
I never even thought of it like that until you said it.But it's true all this downgrading talk means squat to us.Also most of those games at e3 were running on only a third of the power with no gfx card too.
You know it's funny how nobody says crap about how nintendo's system is already way downgraded(I still like it don't get me wrong)and even if ps3 is downgraded it will still be more powerful than it's competition.

Yeah I think you're right there Tycobb, but I think the Xbox 360 has alot of power yet to be tapped into. One of my mates (admittedly an avid Xbox fan - however he also admitted to me he latches on to the system which has the best graphics lol PS3 fan to be?) reckopns that oblivion used only about 30% of the machine specs... Do you reckon thats true. The Wii's lack of power is a necessary evil to keep the pirce as a main point of sale, and the innovations of the system along with the back catalouge should help it move from the shelves methinks. Tycobb do you think that the apparent lack of technolical advance (when compared to both Ms and Sony's brand new systems) is a sign Nintendo can't afford to dedicate such funds to Research and Development because of dwindling profits? Don't want them to become another Sega!! By the way Tycobb you should make yourself a profile page!

x360 is definitely a powerful system. As far as oblivion I can't really answer that ,but I'm pretty sure they developed it to take full advantage of the 360's processing power and if they didn't there stupid.
The only reason those ps3 games you saw at e3 were running on a third is because the ps3 is still in beta form.If they could run it at full power they would.
I think your right about nintendo. Many thought the gc would be their last system but nope.I think if wii flops it will be their last console. But really the reason for not adding as much specs is that every x360 and ps3 sale result's in a loss for for ms and sony who take a loss knowing that when the technology comes down they will make a profit.Nintendo can't afford a loss on every system.
for instance sony just started making a profit on ps2 only 8 months ago.The media estimates every time an x360 is sold ms looses $300 because you can't make a 360 for $399.I didn't beleive it either at first but it's true.

Yeah. Pretty unbelievable. I guess with the way technology has been really accelerating it was bound to happen (I doubt Super Nintendo would have given Nintendo a loss at the time would it? I suppose that was the best technology at that time though). If Sony and MS were to price their consoles so that they made a profit then they would cut their viable market in half!! Only a select few people would be able to pay that much for a console, and even fewer would be prepared to! Thats why games are so overpriced I guess - but really, how much do Sony and Microsoft make for each game produced (i.e % of profit earned per disc distributed)? There are developers and designers to pay as well!!

Yeah just think about it.
Blu-ray player alone will be $1200
cell processor is another $1000(cell processors don't even exist for the pc yet)
60 gb hard drive is $40
the bad ass gfx card is $600(the grfx card in ps3 is said to be better than anything currently on the market)
casing and psu is dont know lol
wifi card is about $30
controller with ir sensoring is $40
online cost's in the billions
I could go on and that doesn't include all the research and personel cost's which are in the billions. And yet they cost $599.
360 has a similar story.

In short along time probably the last year of the console. However I'm sure sony gets much better deals then the individual consumer which is how I priced those.
But they also make cash from licensing fees for games ,mem cards,contollers...etc.They will also get a cut from every movie released on Blu-ray because it's sony's technology and that's why they want it to succeed.
x360 made interchangable faceplate's to try and make more money
to off set losses. It's another way of making $20 for a piece of molded plastic lol.

Yeh they are cheap in quality and they do charge 20bucks but personally the quality isnt an issue because its NEVER touched after you initally swap the old one out for the new on ya buy(speaking of faceplates). I like the customization i got the dallas cowboy one to rep my team when im dominating in madden. Plus its a smart markteting idea to as you mentioned make up losses.Customer happy and MS makes their money its a win win situation if you ask me.I love the option to soup-up my for a lack of a better word

I realize this question was directed at tycobb (for some reason or another), but I can tell you that the answer is no. If you look at the costs Sony or MS put into R&D, and then look at how much Hardware costs will set the companies back, you'd find that Nintendo has enough financial bulk to easily withstand it.

oofrome: we realize your a nintendo fanboy but this company does NOT have enough money to take a $400 dollar loss on every system they sell.
Sega tryed that with dreamcast which at the time was the best selling system but it was so successful that the company took a huge loss! and has never been the same.It was not the ps2 that was the reason for sega's departure.
If nintendo could afford to do more they would. They chopped their system down for a reason and it wasn't to sell at a lower price.

ffxTidus : hi, that's a good point not many talk about it being upgradable but they love talking about it being downgraded.
The hard drives will be upgradable as well as some other features. It definitely won't be as upgradable as a computer though. But the same could be said about any console.I'm glad it isn't like that because then people with more money would have a more powerful system similar to the pc.Ps3 will have linux os like a pc too.

Then online play would dominated by rich hardcores with all the upgrades :( . I'll say it again, the best thing about consoles is buying a game with the comfort of knowing it's gonna run at an acceptable standard. I get sick of worrying about minimum requirements!!

bammm! exactly.Nothing is more frusterating then playing an online game with someone who has better hardware because they have more money.
With everything upgradable the graphics would get choppy and you would have to upgrade the gfx card which would set you back like $400 for a good one.Plus there would be no need for a ps4 in the future because everyone would just upgrade. It would never end.

A very valid point. Such a move would almost be against Sony, and they wouldn't make more money by being able to release a true next gen console. I think the extent of these upgrades would be nothing more than a larger hardrive and maybe even just some software upgrades that would be downloadable. It would be cool if you could download software with better media capabilities etc. If they upgrade the graphics all the time, then wouldn't the platform be even harder for developers to produce on? They'd get to know the console and then would have to adjust for any hardware upgrades...
