Every console has its strengths and weaknesses, and something exclusive to it that everyone would like to try.

Xbox
I'm not against Microsoft - in fact, I've used their programs on my PC for as long as I can remember. I've also enjoyed many of their games - but they just don't have a chance.
Microsoft is far too busy focusing on the West to attract the massive amount of gamers in the East. While their new console is hailing in some new, great-looking IPs, it's mostly still the same ol same ol fps + 3rd person action/adventure. It looks great, but in reality we've already been down this road - this time we're just getting better scenery.
Microsoft is going to need to get some new innovative games out if they want to win this round.

Nintendo Wii
Nintendo, in my opinion, isn't going to win this war. Their controller, though innovative, is also alien. Nintendo thinks this will attract a broader variety of gamers - what they don't seem to understand is that someone is most likely going to go for an established format that they know works, rather than something completely new and, quoting myself, "alien" to them.
For most non-gamers the Wii might be easier to get into and have a shorter learning curve than the other two options - but that's just the thing. A non-gamer isn't going to go out and buy a video game console. Nor will they play it enough to warrant many purchases of games. Which brings me to my next point...
It's going to be more difficult developing for Wii - not because of its technical limitations, but because of the way they're going to have to innovate their games to work with an entirely new and unknown method of control. Which subsequently could make games choppy with flawed control schemes. This was mentioned a lot at E3, so hopefully Nintendo gets it together. Their 1st party support won't win them this alone.
The Wii is interesting, and I'm definitely going to check it out - but it just doesn't seem as good as it's hyped once you sit down and think about it. Sure it'll be fun for the first hour or so, but how fun is it when your arm is completely worn out? Next.
The price... now that's what people like. Around 250USD retail, sounds good! Or does it? Do I really want to pay 250$ for a console with current-gen graphics and a new control style? Not really.

Playstation 3
I owned a PS2, and while it was the least powerful of the three, it was also the most innovative. Which is why I'm wondering why Nintendo fanboys have been saying PS3 stole motion sensing. What about EyeToy? Didn't that have motion sensing? PS2 had almost all the innovative games, DDR, Guitar Hero, various EyeToy games and much more. Playstation3 is expensive which will probably turn off casual gamers until a price dop, but it's also the most powerful console next-gen. Combine that with the fact that Sony is known to innovate its consoles constantly - then you have a pretty attractive deal. Not to mention Playstation has what most consider to be the best games out of all the consoles. The PS3s price, while it may hurt sales, will certainly not be as big a factor once it picks up steam.
Out of all of them I'd say Sony is ready to win round 3, but I'm still not sure. If the Wii gains a strong 3rd party support whilst managing to pull of solid controls it just might win... and if the 360 starts to get some more varied IPs it has a chance as well... but so far I'd say Sony is #1.

Hey mudearies. It's been a while where you been man?
My pro ps3 thread was shut down lol.

Anyways...I think they all have their pro's and con's...I like wii and ps3 ,some like 360 and ps3, etc..I think my freinds 360 rocks but I personally don't like the games as much. That's why I'll wait for ps3 to come out and get it and not xbox.

Anyway I smell a flame war coming on here.I hope not.

I'm not going to bother with this, but I like how mudearies gives Sony credit for work done by RedOctane, and Konami.

But still, I think he did a surprisingly good job giving his opinion without really offending anyone. I didn't see any kidtendo or microsucks jokes, so on that note, well done man. :-)

this all depends on how many people will spend $5-600 on a PS3, but i agree that there seems to be alot of fps/action games for the 360. But its too early to say though and sony seems to have alot of problems with the PS3.

I LOVE my xbox 360 but even i KNOW without a shadow of doubt that the ps3 will win this coming war.I dont think it will be a blowout like in the past war because of the high ps3 price.BUt in the end since it will be close between all threee consoles its a "who cares" situation there wont be degradation in quality for any of the consoles losing the war since it will end up being close so in essnece the CONSUMER wins!

well i have an x360 and i am just so sick of fps i like games like katamari demashi, and all of the square enix rpgs, etc. but xbox really has 1 good genre which is the fps, but i think that if GoW or halo3 are bad i think it is over for microsoft they rely to much on halo
(this is totally my opinion)

Well i see sony loosing some ground to nintendo and still winning but microsoft might still finnish with as much sales as they had the last time arround. So it's possible that first out of the blocks will be last accross the line

WE'll have to wait and see but whats up with Sony's CEO talking about "potential"? Who cares about potential? I want a given,to the best of my knowledge almost all consoles never reach their full potential. Heres an article where a Sony CEO is chatting about potential and a whole lot of "if's"

http://www.gamepro.com/news.cfm?article_id=69148

I think Sony may be making a mistake if they plan on this console lasting 10 years, its not a usual console life span and by that time MS and nintendo will be making a newer better console that far surpasses what the ps3 has to offer. It just seems like they are charging extra based on ONE thing and that is POTENTIAL. In theory the power of both the 360 and ps3 will be utilized to the same extent and graphics, speed, and so on will be unnoticably different.Aside from some quality issues with the ps2 it was an AMAZING system and they seem to be trying ot do way too much with the Ps3.Lets just hope this console isnt debunked as not being a "computer" as the Ps2 was...

well thats a nice summing up there. i agree with it mostly. the wii-mote is odd cuz its
unevenly places your hands and i cant stand that, and wth are these +, -, 1, and 2 buttons
for? and why is there only one main button and a trigger? its too minimalist for almost
anything more complicated than a few sports and maybe racing or sationary firing like
duckhunt. ahaha could you imagine duck hunt in 3d with kinda of a cartoony dog, ducks,
and surroundings for that old feel with new fun.

and with the wii, what if someone crosses you while ur playing, the wii-mote might
recognize that as movement and you could go all screwy. thats the problem with external
sensing. i bet u cant play outside if u cared either because there would be nothing for the
ir to reflect from.

@dngl
pardon my frustration earlier, but i guess its just two different points of view. i just want
to establish something. there are no more than six axises in a 3d realm. forward,
backward, up, down, strafe left, and strafe right. that accompasses everything, meaning if
u tilt it forward while wtisting left, you'll nosedive to the left. its all the same, but using
gyroscopes instead of watching the objects. the only difference is that the wii's sensing
allows for only one hand to be involved. i like symmetry, so that would bother me too
much, i like to use both hands evenly.

its sad that thread closed, it was over 6 months old.

But they all do sort of the same thing, and that is rearrange what you thought was real, and they remind you of the beauty of very simple things. You forget, because youre so busy going from a to z, that theres 24 letters in between... You turn on... tune in... and you drop out...

i think that ms will not make a consoule in 7-10 years either and the wii is like gamecube 1.75 so going by that if they make another consoule it will still not be as good as a ps3, and dngl i think u forget that sony will always win japan nintendo in the polls might be good but i don't think it will do as good in japan as the ps3,

the wii may take the japan market, its cheap and odd, generally they love that kinda thing.

What I think will happen will be a numbers game. THe PS2 sold 100 million systems. Xbox sold 24 million and GC sold 20 million. I see Microsoft cutting into Sony's marketshare. All the talking heads rant about winnning but it comes down to marketshare and getting more. If Microsoft cuts more into Sony's marketshare then they will probably stay in the biz.

It's funny Microsoft get's Final Fantsy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi
to make Blue Dragon to get the RPG fanatics. Sony is trying to find a FSP to be the HALO killer.

Both companies have weakness in their software titles they just happen to have the opposite weknesses.

i think the ps3 will come out the winner again due to their excellent games, and i believe that nintendo will come in second having dug into japan a little, and ms will come in last due to its nonexistant eastern fanbase. i am a huge believer that nobody will get near sony again this generation.

Good post.. I think the clincher is going to be the reliability of the Blu-Ray drive and whether the film people take it up or go with the HD-DVD instead. Reminds me of the VHS vs Beta video formats. The Betamax was far superior technically and in picture quality but it was the availability of mass media (JVC did a deal with Thorn-EMI = Columbia films, UA and others) which made available a large amount of big American film companies releases on the format that killed it, and left us suffering for years with the inferior product that still is VHS.
Sony's customer relations seems to be taking a hammering and I'm not even going to predict a win or lose before seeing the final release specs and see how reliable the console is in use, and the quality or otherwise of the games. It's on paper a bargain for what you get, but it's a matter of time to see if the software developers get it together to implement the full potential of the system.

Same thing with the 360.. If the game writers can utilise the triple core cpu then there will be a battle to end all arguments. If M$ really want to win they should let people into the bootloader sequence by releasing the info at the time the ps3 is released and then we'll see. A modded xbox wins over a modded ps2 hands down for usability and function.. Probably the same in the next gen too. Time will tell.
My only gripe with Sony...And I've had it for years, well before games consoles were even dreamed of, is dodgy build quality and special "in house" components.
See...I can discuss this without attacking Sony.. lol

well in japan last gen sega lost in japan because it did not have a dvd player the ps2 was extremely popular i mean stores were using ps2s to show off dvds and japan will love an even more proven ps3 and will use the bluray to its fullest extent unlike the wii which needs an external player to play dvds)

I doubt Sony will allow any modding for the PS3. Look at the fight between Sony and the hackers and homebrewers for the PSP. BUt still as usual...ppl will always find a way. But it wont be as easy as the 360 tho.

PS3...it only does everything(that Sony allows it to)

@Cris

Does any company ever allow for modding thier consoles? I sure dont know of any. Companies can include whatever they want in their prodcuts to try to stop modding, but there are a lot of highly talented and educated hacks around. Look at the 360, Microsft swore they learned their lesson from the Xbox, but there are alredy hacks and mods available.

NO they didn't.What they said was they would work with(sorta) independent developers, non licenses, and homebrew. That is NOT modding.

Sony is not going to help you mod and hack ps3.

Game mods and hardware mods are two totally different things.
