@Garmoon, Aus, Bilvet etc ... I like your suggestions! Coming from a family of immigrants, it sometimes gets personal. My Dad and Uncles had to "earn" the rights of citizenship by fighting shoulder to shoulder with Americans against the Japanese in WWII; my father made it through o.k. and one of his brothers was seriously wounded. A couple of their friends died. The notion of just giving away citizenship really goes against the grain with my family and a lot of other immigrant families.
As it applies to my job, its the usual government fubar; because of confidentiality laws, I can't release the names of illegals who, in this day and age, could be dangerous. I once had a client who witnessed a double murder and knew the people who commited the murders but the law wouldn't allow me to release her name unless SHE had told me that SHE murdered them.

My bitch is one of those bad new / good news things:
1. The bad news: some jerk on a bicycle came up from behind, hit me on the side and sent me flying on my a$$ (again). I'm still kind of sore.
2. The good new is something I've fantasized about but never did: as I was falling, I guess I had a lot of force on my cane to catch myself and it went right through the spokes of his rear wheel and he went flying over the handle bars onto his belly! I always wanted to do that because it happens too often and it pisses me off to no end but all I need is to have the jerk land on his head and fracture his skull so I never did it. Fortunately that didn't happen but his belly and left side looked like hamburger ... stupid little sh@%!

You say it's about respect for the game and the players. I don't think many of the old players would have much to say. The players today should show some respect for the game and fans before they expect any in return. It's the players who've made the situation what it is. Respect may be an issue, but the players are the ones who helped destroy it with steroid use and their strike policies for holding up franchises for even more exorbitant salaries.

I was talking about OJ being acquitted in criminal court and then losing in civil court. I likened that situation to your reasoning on Bonds "innocent til proven guilty". (More or less joking about the situation.) Baseball really doesn't want to know if Bonds committed the act or not. Sports Illustrated wrote a story on the investigation of Bonds steroid use. Too many people saw what was going on for it to be a secret. It's not a legal case that sets precedence for rights that is involved. The situation is about a player wanting respect for a record he may not have earned honestly.

@Pac ... in as much as I think O.J. is a worm, I never really understood the concept of being "not guilty" in criminal court and then guilty (for all intents and purposes) in another. Guilty or not guilty seem pretty black and white to me. It's been explained to me many times but I can never seem to understand the explanation.

With OJ the criminal case was a farce. With Ito, Clark, Darden, and Fuhrman, it was a comedy of errors. I watched a lot of the circus for entertainment. It beat the soap operas. LOL The defense played the race card. Fuhrman made that easy. And only in a warm climate would anyone fall for "if the glove doesn't fit, don't convict". Anyone whose ever owned a pair of leather gloves in a cold climate know they shrink and harden when exposed to snow. Blood would really do a number on gloves as far as shrinkage and stiffening. What the prosecution should have done was buy a pair of gloves the same size and brand from the same vendor. Still it would have been difficult to convict OJ at that time with that jury, even if there had been a picture of him committing the crime. The burden of proof wasn't as high in the civil case and the preponderance of evidence convicted OJ in that court. Plus, the civil court judge closed the proceedings so the case wouldn't be a media circus.

As far as OJ case. It was black and white. Blacks thought he was innocent and whites thought he was guilty. Two different colored juries in two different colored towns. American justice, an oxymoron.

Like I said Marc Ecko had the Right to Buy and Brand the Ball...It is his to do with as he pleases...However...The Hall of Fame is Wrong for Endorsing and Helping Marc to Brand the Ball...then Displaying it...
It is an Insult to the Players of the Game and those in shrined in the Hall...Current Players and those in shrined have begun speaking out against it...this is Desecration of a Historically Significant Item for a PUBLICITY STUNT...nothing more...Marc Ecko is not a Hero for doing this...He is not doing a Public Service...He is doing this for Publicity for Himself...and his Clothing Line...
I personally Hope Willie Mays pulls all his memorabilia from the Hall...and Refuses to Attend Future Inductions...and I foresee other Players and there Families Following Suit...It is a Disgrace...

The bias for the criminal trial was 8 blacks and 4 whites, with memories of the race riots fresh in everyone's mind. Add the "dream team" ($4 million) OJ assembled for his defense and it's no wonder he got off. I'm one of those who think OJ probably did it, but Darden and Clark must have spent more time at play than work because they did a poor job of presenting the proof. The civil trial was lower profile and the jury was evenly split between white and black. That means some black people helped convict OJ in civil court (and the court of popular opinion). The black community has come to realize what a strange character OJ is. His last escapade is only a part of the ongoing saga. ;)

@Cincy and the baseball fans out there,
In my honest opinion, baseball lost its appeal to me when they went on strike back in the late 90's, prior to that I was a diehard Red Sox fan, and also a follower of the local team (Baltimore Orioles) but became bitterly disenchanted when they all went on their crybaby status and walked out. As far as I'm concerned, that put an asterisk on baseball for all time. 'Nuff said.
