First of all this is pure speculation but it may be interesting to some. Here are the prices from amazon.com of some current BluRay releases and the corresponding DVD prices:
Resident Evil Apocalypse BD - $19.99 DVD - 14.99
The Fifth Element BD - 24.99 DVD - 17.99
HOFD BD - 21.99 DVD - 13.51
Underworld Evolution BD - 34.99 DVD - 16.54
XXX BD - 21.99 DVD - 14.94
Crash BD - 35.99 DVD - 19.99
T2 BD - 24.99 DVD - 10.30
Terminator BD - 28.95 DVD - 6.99
Lord of War BD - 35.99 DVD - 21.99
It's clear from these figures that BluRay costs more and if the PS3 games are on BluRay discs then we have to expect to pay a premium. I will be surprised (and happy) if they maintain game prices comparable to the 360 ($60) but I will not be surprised if we end up having to pay $70 - $90.

well it would be very ignorant to price over 65. i could see a figure around 62.99, a number thats more for the "tech" and not so much more as to scare.
But they all do sort of the same thing, and that is rearrange what you thought was real, and they remind you of the beauty of very simple things. You forget, because youre so busy going from a to z, that theres 24 letters in between... You turn on... tune in... and you drop out...

I don't think it means much.It was the same with dvd's when they first came out vhs tapes were cheaper. It's a similar trend this go around.I don't know how much games will be but I wouldn't base it off of movies prices.
If games are on bluray than they will be able to hold more game than xbox360 games which are on dvd's.This means though they may be more expensive you will get more bang for your buck too.
best buy has most new released bluray discs at $30.00 and dvd's of the same title at $20.00
Like hitch for example is a newer movie.

Games on BluRay media should be more expensive. I expect to pay $70 to $80 per game.

woah, someone who wants to pay more. i dont expect to, because the last gen top average was $50, why bring it to $70 in one generation?

That would drive alot of people away if they do infact have price ranges from 70-80 dollars. I dont think sony would be that dumb to price normal new release games for $80. Oh one other thing im talking canadian dollars i dunno about you guys just to clear soem confusion.

This actually makes sense to me. If developers can fill a 25 Gig Bluray disc with game content (compared to the 360's DVD-9 at $60) it would be reasonable for me to expect to pay more. $70 to $80 sounds about right for new technology, a larger capacity medium, and more game content and next-gen enhanced gameplay at 1080p.

It all makes sence but it just seems way to much after paying a sh!t load of money for the system itself.

It is possible that BD games it will go above $70. But hopefully it will fall some where in the 60's like anubis said. BD movies were only 5-10 dollars more than DVD so games would probably be the same. From 50 somethin(PS2) to 60 somethin(PS3). But since BD cost more to make then the price might be higher than 360 games. Or it could be the same and that would make 360 game sales drop like a mofo.
And 360 games bein 60+ is just retarded. Its just a way of over charging ppl for something that is compatible with the " new next gen" console. Even tho its the same DVD based game that didnt cost any more to make than the xbox.
PS3...it only does everything(that Sony allows it to)

It's alot of money but sony stated it would be from the beggining when speaking about ps3 in general.
So the cutscenes for games on bluray will have %100 high res textures and be totally 1080p while dvd doesn't have the space nor the output spec to do either. The high res textures and additional effects will be noticable even on sdtv.On a HDTV it bluray would look superior gaming wise compaired to regular dvd.Games unlike movies do have the ability to play at 60fps and higher.
Either way you look at it 25gb hd enabled disc against a 7.2 gb(although %95 of games come on 4.7gb discs) non hd disc is no contest. Therefore it should be more expensive. Now the real kicker is if sony can debut them at 59.99 then we would be talking a real good deal.

I doubt it. It seems every new system that comes out like i mean (ps1 then ps2) that the game seem to go up 10 more extra dollars. But know isnc eits Blu-ray it may be an extra 20. And that would not be good lets hope for the best.

I hope so too. What's funny is that wii games will be $59.99 and they won't look nearly as good as ps3 will.
It seems microsoft has gone up $10 on thier games without giving any reason for it.XBOX 360 games are still on regular dvd's just like xbox 1 was, so why have they gone up $10.Rippin us man lol.

LOl fo reals man
I was gonna say that since BD movies were only 10 bucks more than DVDs, then games would only be 10 bucks more also. But then i realize that movies are always cheaper. Example, new UMDs were pretty much the same price as new DVD movies. Maybe a lil bit more on good tittles. Thats how BD movies are like now... lil bit more than DVDs. But PSP games were more expensive then PS2 games(same tittles) So i guess BD games could break the 60 even 70 price tag.

Maybe I dunno. But bluray will come down in price.I mention this in every bluray /hd-dvd discussion but regular dvd's were hella expensive when they first came out and they pushed vhs out now the same is happening to dvd's now they look cheap just like vhs did.
what a marketing circle lol.One big money pit for everyone but us.With all this competition why aren't we seeing competitive prices?
If you want my bussiness you should compete price wise.360,ps3,wii games are all to expensive not just ps3 games.

I'll just rent games or something lol. Hopefully some modding will come around soon.

Yeah maybe that gamefly subscription is an option. You can get 3 games per month and keep the ones you want or send em back.No worry for late fees.
I think the games will have a set retail price(as usual) but I think eventually bluray discs will come down allowing the publisher to set a lower retail price.
Check it out though.I'm not pushing it but it is an option.

hopefully in time Blu-ray previals which also would help lower the prices for games. i think its fair if sony charged $5 more for games that are multiplatform, and $10 more for exclussives. hopefully prices don't peak over $70 because i'll probably have to wait some games out if thats the case or buy 2nd hand games.

@DamonDash
The BD prices are from amazon.com. New releases are usually $25 - $35.
I don't know if this has been posted before:

Quote: Hirai continued his answer by saying, ?I don't think consumers expect software pricing to suddenly double. So, the quick answer is that we want to make it as affordable as possible, knowing that there is a set consumer expectation for what software has cost for the past twelve years. That's kind of the best answer I can give you. So, if it becomes a bit higher than $59, don't ding me, but, again, I don't expect it to be $100.?
Remember guys - don't ding him if it's higher than $59.

ok so anyways if you wait long enough the games will go down in price. For example is some hockey game comes out for the ps3 and its $70 (not saying it wil be or anything) then the next years hockey game comes out the last years hockey game will go down in price as long as you wait.(which most people dont want to). Or you could always get the game used for cheaper.
