what is this 'analysis' file called? What version of xp are you using. Xp pro has no 'application data' folder and DVD Shrink has no subfolder called 'analysis.

hi cdan:
In XP PRO it's in your main drive :\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ ... delete DVD Shrink folder,in this folder are the analysis files. Just delete the whole folder.
To find the folder you must make all hidden files visible to see the folder, please use your help file in XP PRO to undertake this procedure.
Hope this clarifies the matter for you.

I found it on this forum, lots of great info on PIO and DMA. I had the exact same problem as you and after following ALL the steps on this site, I'm not PIO free :)
Help me help myself :)

Theres another forum site, I found that deals with this issue also. I've narrowed it down to a software problem. I did everything defrag,virus/spyware ck, dumped temp files, hidden ones too, cked the dma etc, drove my tech friend insane about this. It started about a week ago, the total time analizing, encryp + burn would normally take about 30 minutes, I have a brand new computer and its fast. all of a sudden the encryp went to 44-59 minutes not including the burn. I just did a 2 hr movie that took 1 hr and 36 minutes for the entire process. Alot of people with XP are having this issue. So they suggested a system restore. So I did one just now for two weeks back and guess what. The same exact disc I did today that said encrypt time was 59 minutes, went to 34 minutes. Thats quite a difference. Most of the people that have done the system restore said it only last for 4-6 burns then it slows down again. At least I know it isn't hardware now. any other ideas?

this is a software issue... i have sata drives in raid0 and have no dma problems. when i first started to encode (with everything turned on eg. deep analysis, sharp filter) i would get at least 5,000 kb/s now i can hardly make it to 1500 kb/s and i noticed the buffered status goes way up into the hundreds of megabits...i dont believe it used to go that high before...i may try to uninstall sp2 and see if that is the problem

I don't know why system restore worked so well to get DVD Shrink back to being fast, but it did. I hadn't downloaded any programs so I'm not sure why it actually worked. But the two movies I did last week took 1 hr. 6 minutes and I just re-did them and the TOTAL time for each was 17minutes 8 seconds. So quite an improvement, don't know how long it will last, someone said after restore it normally only about 5-6 burns before it reverts back to its SLOW......ness. I've already done 3 and I'll be burning 4 today so we'll see. I also noticed on the area where it shows RATE, when it was super slow the RATE showed between 2400 & 2900. Now its showing between 7,000 * 8400. I'm not sure what the RATE actually means, but it was one of the things that I did notice as being changed by the system restore. I will keep you posted if it should go back to its "old" ways.

RATE is kb/sec, so if it says 7000 kb/sec, that means 7megabytes a second being transferred..

after starting this thread, I thought I had made a mistake, but it finally seems we are GENERALLY admitting we have a slowing problem (software or hardware) related to Shrink. Just when I finally had gotten the Conspiracy Theories put to rest!
In my case, it can't be sp2 because I have 98se, and it slowed down. it has to be something else that's causing the slowing regardless of OS used.
It starts out fine, and eventually begins to slow to a crawl...maybe a combination of progs. or ??? maybe defrag problems???

Hmm,...I am just a newbie (to this site at least) but I had similar "shrinking" traffic jam before--DMA, drivers, ok. Then I realized i had 3 movies stored on my HDD that I want to "send" and cant stand to expunge. Also used another program beside Nero to burn and maybe that has something to do with it. After an elephant-size dumping, all's quiet on the western front! Finally, might consider joining the rest of civilization by upgrading your CPU and OS maybe. Its not Shrink at all I can tell you, as I have alot of problems in the past that were resolved when I altered certain parameters and/or software applications (DMA,drivers,etc.).

OR>>> maybe the slowing is due to new movie technology, making it harder for us to backup. It's not sp2.....cause I don't use it. Not huge backup files still on the hd cause I use a 2nd hd to backup to and dump after a burn. It seems everyone started experiencing the problem about the same time.....a few months ago.

Skyluck,
I've been part of "society" for a while now (if xp pro is considered "civilized") but this extra 98se machine has me stumped. I'm one of those people that tend to dwell on things that SHOULD have an explanation, but don't.
Besides, I have a gut feeling that more than a few people are still using 98se or ME, and might have those same issues. I figured this is the best place to see who else has seen this, and perhaps come up w/a solution that will let me continue to use my old machine for something other than word processing/internet:)
Usually, forums provide a quick way to an answer. I don't know if we finally came up with a problem that does not have an easy or at least a PROBABLE, solution.

i'm following this type of thread purely as i'm intrigued as to how many seemingly unexplained slowdowns there are. (sorry i'm an x-files addict). There are soo many DMA threads, a lot of which are proved to be DMA related, (for example the XP bug where 6 crc errors or whatever and you're DMA is lowered), but it does seem there are cases where it's still unexplained (sorry that's definitely a Mulder)

my primary ide is using dma ultra mode 5, the secondary is using dma ultra mode 2.......i wonder if that's making any difference in the analyze / encode time? How can i get the 2 back to a 5...or does it really make any difference?

two identical machines...one with new install of dvdshrink...the other with old version. Wow, the new machine runs fast...but I have not burned that many.
My guess is some type of accumulation file resides for dvdshrink in windows...I delete that and report to see if any differences.

@deadman99, if you mean the folder similar to "D:\Documents and Settings\All Users.WINNT\Application Data\DVD Shrink", that won't affect speed, but you can delete them..
doh! i'd already posted the directory name further up the page. goldfish memory to the fore again!
