You have the choice:
- should I buy any translation software (I will ask Pioneer for a hint)
- should I change to french (ca etait terrifique, mon amis).
My point is that I will continue in kitchen english till May because water temperature might not raise over 10 degree celsius. So I lean back very comfortable and secure here in - LETTER near Hannover/Germany (Letter is better...).
After May???be??? Sharks.

I sent an email to Piooner.de asking when the fix would be available and guess what? They suggested I contact Pioneer GB!!!

So I sent the 5100 back for a refund. It's pitiful.

Oh my. It so cold out there in the world.
What shall I do with my time when we finish this struggle for the hidden but glorious benefits of the 5100??
I asked Toshiba via mail: is my MotionDV-Software trial or fully? They sent me a telephone number to ask...
You´ll never walk alone.

Ralf, I think that if technology and the Internet ceased to exist tomorrow many of us would just have to go right out and get a life!!!

mijac - why don't you return yours also - with a suggestion that ASK tell Pioneer GB whats happening?

Then when it's sorted buy a new one. That's what ASK are doing for me.

I emailed Richard Fraser at Pioneer GB twice now and still nothing.

Glad I'm not in Management at Pioneer Europe - there'd be a few heads rolling down the aisles in the company - just heard from a collegaue in the States said he had nothing but useless service from Pioneer Holland and somewhere else - only place that was helpful was Pioneer USA. Deep joy.

I was thinking of returning it but I can only get a refund with 7 days as Im aware & I bought it in one of their stores in London & this is already my 2nd player, Im sure the firmware should be coming soon - besides Ill only probably end up spending the budget for the pioneer on software ive seen on Canopus (Just discovered + very pricey) lol

Sent my ADVC100 back for a refund though!!

mijac - pity you didn't live nearer me - then when Pioneer fix the dv thing I could test my RexRT Pro system on yours 5100 - and if OK - I could then buy a new one??

cheers Chris

Hi,
first question (Mr. Fraser) is answered yet.
But second - what about the 3-slot-firewire-"trick"? Pity is that these nameless cards are traded like dirt - at the moment for Euro 20,- - one container from kitchen in Shanghai, next container from Kitchen in Chiayi. I imagine that also Pinnacle or Canopus change their fw-cards in their kits every week or month to the cheapest. Possibly the brand "EXSYS" continues its cards over a longer period.
So mijacmad might stay where he is because in Hannover´s shops it´s really impossible to purchase one specifc card twice a week later and of course water in channel is lousy cold till May.

Hello,
in the meantime I did not get any message from Pio, from Mr. Fraser, nor did I get a firmware update.
I am not amused ...
We have purchased a new Camcorder Sony PC 105. This camcorder is NOT recognized by the 5100 at all via firewire/DV.
The Sony-D8 DCR 238 we own IS recognized by 5100 as a camcorder.
After having replaced the driver for the built-in fw-slot of the Toshiba Notebook with the Sony-related OHCI-one of XP, Studio8 sends nice and recognized pictures from PC to 5100through this slot and no more need of a PCMCIA card, but installation routine sayd "Harmful-this driver is not made for this hardware...".
So all this misfunction we talked about might be soft/firmware-related and we might just have to take it as WANTED by the manufacturers.
One year ago I had troubles with rather nice soundcards. What I learned is that function has much to do with given circumstances. I now own the soundcard which worked from the moment of pluggin´it into the slot. The slot is situated on a motherboard that will definiteley not work with the card, as the card manufacturer tells on his website. Friend of mine set up his audio-PC just exactly after the advises of the card´s manufacturer - he gets 9ms latency, I get 1,5ms.
Any question? Any answer?
Wonder if this "try and error" behaviour is helpful for manufacturers who put a brand on their devices.
Cheers Yours
Ralf

Shows the interest Pioneer have in their customers. No reply ever from Pioneer UK and no sign of a firmware upgrade for the 5100 - I'm off to Panasonic I think.

Dear Studioman.

Having not read through all four pages or posts I have to guess that you are still having trouble exporting DV from your PC to your 5100.

I recently brought one of these beasties and after expecting all sorts of problems I nearly fell off my chair when I managed to import DV into it. I could not use the camcorder option, predictably, but instead just selected DV as the input source.

In my PC I have a Canapus firewire card. At the time when I brought my ADVC-100 capture box I did not have a firewire interface on the motherbaord and decided to save any compatibility problems by buying the Canpus card.

For the above experiment I connected the firewire card direct to the 5100 and used the Canpous EZVideo software to capture and play back to/from the 5100. I only did short 5minute captures, just see what would happen. I haven't tried exporting from Premier.

Don't know if this helps. If you have specific questions ask away, I'll do my best to tell you how I managed it (not really any great genius on my part, I just got lucky).

Cheers.

Thanks for that - the reason I sent the 5100 back to my seller was that the dv output from my both Canopus edit systems would not get recognised as a dv input. That's using the RexRT Pro board and the Storm 2 board. Now as the Storm 2 is one of the latest I would have thought the signal would have been 'correct' for the Pioneer 5100. But it seems not.

I am not sure what to do. whether the same card you have works and mine don't or else the 5100 I had was a bit suspect?? not sure. I may wait and try another 5100 later. Pioneer do not serve the support. They show no support for me via thier GB offices or or the net. The only response I ever got was from Pioneer Germany - who suggested I 'kontact Pioneer UK'...........................

cheers Chris

ps when you say you could not use the camcorder option - did you mean the settings within the 5100 menu?? I assumed that I set the input as dv in and that was that. If the 5100 was expecting a camcorder input then it would also expect a 'control signal' withing that dv output from my Canopus board. Maybe something there..............

Let me know the exact settings in your 5100 menu that allows you to record dv into the 5100 from your edit card please - I may by another 5100 just to be sure.

Will look up the details tonight.

I meant I did NOT use 'HOME MENU - DV record - Record to HDD'. Instead I pressed the INPUT SELECT until the display showed 'DV'.

I think the point is that the 'DV record' option was developed to simplify camcorder transfers, whilst the DV input is just a raw data input (or output) offering no control over the source.

I need to try it again to be precise because there was some trouble to get it working. From memory I needed to have DV data streaming to the 5100 before switching to the DV input. I'll try this again because I can't really remember. I didn't pay too much attention as it's not something I really need to do. I was just curious.

Regards,

Adam

I tried the DV transfer again last night. Still working. I looked through the 5100 set-up but could not find anything that I had changed which was relevant to the DV I/O.

To transfer to the 5100 I first selected the DV input, then started EzVideo, then opened an AVI file and played it. It appears on the tv screen. Sliding the timeline back and forth also appears on the tv.

Getting output from the 5100 I found I first needed to have the 5100 playing from the harddisk (doesn't work from tuner) then started the EzVideo software. Nothing appears in the monitor window until you select 'batch capture'. The output from the 5100 is then visible in the batch capture monitor window.

EZDV had some properties what allowed you to switch between DV and DVCAM, but I found both worked.

I also could output from EzEdit.

I could not output from Premier 6.5, but I suspect that this is caused by not having it set up properly. However, it could also be that the significant point is that the EzVideo software is what is making the difference. If it's possible to stream to the ADVC-100 and see an image, but not to the 5100, then it's the software which is making a difference. I'll try this out, but for a few days.

Cheers,

Adam
