Hi all :)

Are you a regular DVD Shrink user?
A simple "yes" or "no" would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance. ;)

Lets face it guys, at the end of the day both these programs do the same thing, only DVD Shrink is free.

I only use DVDShrink when I can get the right size by removing foreign languages and shrinking the menus and extras only.

If any shrinking of the main film is required I use a combination of either:

DVD shrink at compression level 10 on menus and extras followed by DVD2One full disk mode.

or

DVDXCopy to pick out selected extras, then replace the main film and run the whole lot through DVD2One.

This may take a bit longer but the results speak for themselves and I can remember when I had to spend 14 hours converting to MPG2 for a film-only back-up.

You betcha. DVD Shrink rules...

Is DVD2One really faster in re-encoding/shrinking the movies?

I have had it for ages and tried it out halfway once for a disc that could not be copied by DVD Shrink due to its size. The 2 hours shrinking process for that disc (had about 5 hours of stuff on it) scared me off.

It's about twice as fast, so I'd hate to think what DVD Shrink would have taken to do that disc.

And as you discovered, it tackles DVDS, that Shrink won't.

What???? DVD Shrink takes around 6 mins to rip a movie, aorund 10 to rip and compress at 5%, around 20 mins to rip and compress at 15% and up to 35% it takes about 30 mins. Someone wanna tell me how they think that DVD2One does this quicker, id really like to hear that. Dont be forgetting that with DVD2One you need to rip the disc first off with DVD Decrypter which takes atleast 10 mins.

SO you are wrong when you say its twice as fast!

Also, you are wrong about it tackling DVD's that DVD Shrink wont. You are forgetting that you have ripped the movie with DVD Decrypter. DVD Decrypter does do the majority of movies that DVD Shrink wont do.

Yep. DVD Shrink is pretty quick, the longest I've ever had to decrypt/shrink a disc was under an hour. One reason why I use DVD Shrink, one step process.

I've had DVD Shrink decrypt (but not shrink) a disc in five minutes (if I remember correctly). Pretty damn fast if you ask me. Compression is the time hog. DVD Shrink does it well enough for me to continue using it as I do not rip/burn dvds every day, around five a week.

I am a DVD Shrink fan but have'nt tried the latest release of DVD2One. Why do you DVD2One fans need to use DVD Decrypter? Does'nt the program rip and compress at the same time? If not, there's a flaw already. At least with DVD Shrink it's a two step process, DVD Shrink and which ever burning software you use.

Decrypter then DVD2One takes only 40mins or so.

DVD Shrink does take a while doing its rip/unencrypt & compression doesn't it...

The quality from DVD2One 1.2 is very good , and that is why it has fans of the prog : )

I suppose I should give DVD2One anotherr try. I had tried DVD XCopy Xpress and was disappointed to find that I couldn't choose to keep the DTS soundtrack. I tried DVDShrink and found it would let me either copy the entire 1-layer disc or re-author a 2-layer disc pretty much however I wanted it. This has been great for making backups of episodic TV DVDs.

I would really tend to stick with DVD Shrink. It, for me anyway, rips, decrypts and compresses a lot faster than DVD2One

I use DVD Shrink for all my movies, although I occasionally have to decrypt with DVD Decryptor and I always check the final result with the Play Movie feature in IfoEdit to make sure the files are correct. Since I never use compression and don't mind having movie only backups it's pretty much the best program for me.

I have used both DVDShrink and DVD2One and i found out that DVD2One produce better results. I've converted Ultimate Jordan remove its 5.1 audio and tested it on a plasma display. In DVDShrink you can see more pixelated image than DVD2One version, you can only see this difference if you are transcoding very large video and try to include it in one disc.

Well I guess it depends on the DVD you're making a backup of then, as my test on two plasma screens, the latest Pioneer and Bang & Olufsen, showed the opposite result. :/
The movie used for the test was "The Majestic", in movie-only mode.

I am a DVD Shrink fan by far and thought I'd give DVD2One a shot. (Version 1.2.2 by the way)I don't think version 1.2.3 would be much different to the previous version. After using this I found that dvddecrypter takes at least 10-20mins to rip the files and dvd2one (movie only) took about 20-30mins to re-encode. If I was using dvdshrink, the whole movie would nearly be finished, including burning. So all in all i'd rate dvd2one a big fat 3/10. In other words "shit".

I use DVD Shrink when I want to include Menu in my DVD+R and DVD2One when the Movie compression goes above 6 setting (35%) in DVD Shrink. Both are good with different results but will be better if they allow spliting of DVD-9 to 2pcs of DVD+R.
