this is not really a suprise. this has happened in the past. when the ps2 came out, some ps games wouldn't work. when the 360 came out, some xbox games didn't work. very shortly sony will have firmware updates that will fix the problem...this is nothing new.

The ps3's at my local walmart were already overheating and shutting down after just 3 hours of use. Sony is really effing this up bigtime. Wasn't the point of this console coming out so late because they didn't want to "rush" things? I am smelling a huge rush job here......

Dont waste you breath on him. He is a 360 fan and he got banned 2 times from being one inside the ps3 forum. He is obvisouly lieing because at my local walmart they have them on for 12 hours and they never shut off they just leave them on.

Just google "PS3 overheating" and see what you get. SOny has been trying to cover up the overheating problems since the Tokyo events. I am not lieing about my walmart ps3's either. In fact there are other people reporting this happening on the gamefaqs boards. Sony should be ashamed that this thing isn't perfect considering how long it was delayed
here is a recent example.

lol why is everyone hatin on Sony like that I mean yeah maybe they should have it right since they took time to put it together but all consoles have had problems at launch ,not just Sony now thats somethin understandable but since we are on that whats up with those 360's crashing on those updates I heard about ? they been out a year and this is happening ? why doesnt anyone talk about that ,if they been out that long I would think they should have it right by now . that seems way more worse to me then a launch problem .

I agree with face123 nothing is set in as stone it's always I saw or I heard no solid proof on this. What if sony tried to cover it up, I think the customer would be more furious that he had to wait inline in japan for god knows how long and so pissed off that he will leak this info telling reporters and anyone he can atleast to back it up. Also he would take pictures and let this be known to the public, at least that's what I would do, nothing can get blown over unless it's the government.

And also the game i saw being played, happened to be Tony Hawk and the framerate was an absolute joke compared to the 360 version. Isn't the PS3 supposed to be better than the 360???
I had plans on keeping a PS3 but when i saw that and reports just like that on other cross platform games, framerate problems on the PS3, i knew that all my 7 PS3's I am getting were all going on ebay.

@ face132.....a little research on your end would go a long way
from ign review of Tony hawk
The first major issue that the PlayStation 3 version has is that it doesn't include any online support. Considering that the Tony Hawk series was the first online game for the PlayStation 2, even before the Network Adapter was ever released, makes this seem curious. And the fact that this is the only major launch title that isn't online but should be is basically inexcusable. Tony Hawk's online play is good fun, and it's really disappointing that Neversoft included it with the Xbox 360 version but not this one.
The second problem with the PS3 variant of Project 8 is that it simply doesn't run all that well. The game chops up left and right, sometimes to the point where the controls don't feel responsive. It's bad enough that the camera isn't always perfect, but when it's staring at the bottom of your board and the game is running at 15fps, well, there's a major problem.

Yes, we get it... you don't like the PS3 and you are paying 7 people to get them for you... enough already.
If you don't like it don't buy them and stop posting about it. It's getting old.

I am sure that there are people who read this forum that would like to know what is wrong with the PS3 before they invest so much money on it. I am not here to troll, I am just giving facts and being helpful to
those people.

Re:
Walmart and overheating PS3
Most probably due to the console being inside a cabinet with little or no ventilation, i'm aware of a store in Oz that had issues with overheating 360's because of that very reason
As for claims made by Sony and even micsft for that matter,it's all about numbers and slick wording that borderlines bullshit or at least give the impression it's mightier than it really is,do your homework the PS3 and 360 are supposed to be next gen...lmao

yes the above is true as several reports stated systems being faulty. i mean having a system run nonstop for 3+ hours in a glass case is not always the best, and i am not the least bit surprised if systems (360/ps3) begin to have problems...

"There have been several postings over at Xbox-scene complaining of crashing Xbox's on new games, with default settings on single player. Crashes on Xbox Live and on startup have been reported too, and Project Gotham Racing 3 crashes before finishing the first lap. Screenshots and Video are available showing the crash."
Xbox 360 kiosks: the problems and remedies
The massive rollout of Xbox 360 kiosks across the US over the last few weeks has not been a completely smooth ride for Microsoft and its distributors. Some problems were related to in-store clashes, (Xbox 360 kiosks aren't cooperating?) and some were purely human (Xbox kiosks not safe in Wal-Mart's hands). The human issue was related to the LCD screen being set to the wrong screen resolution, resulting in a blocky ? and very non-HD ? demonstration of the 360's graphics. This was one reason behind The Inquirer's dumbass bad experience with a Wal-Mart Xbox 360 kiosk.
Luckily Microsoft has been fast to respond to these issues (Microsoft addresses Xbox 360 kiosk malfunction) and we even managed to get some clarification of the problems from a source related to Microsoft (360 kiosk clarification from our MS inside source). Now we can add one more little problem to the on-going saga, with a screenshot of an Xbox 360 exhibiting a black screen of death (Xbox 360 goes BSOD). Microsoft better be hoping that the real and global distribution of 360s goes a little more smoothly.
Just want to prove that Sony is not the only one that had launch problems or overheating problems or problems with games and really tony Hawk who cares that game is old I havent played it in years Sony milked that game dry its tired thats good it works on the 360 , lol maybe I wont have to look at it no more now

@twohitter
Your just being a hipocrit saying that you just want for ppl to now about what's wrong with the ps3 before they invest on it. Then you go and say that you have 7 ppl inline to purchase ps3 to go off and sell them on ebay. That's stupid what are you going to write on the discription of the product(on ebay) this is the console that overheats, also it doesn't play ps1 and ps2, and so on. Also provide links to what you have found out about the PS3, NO, exactly it just pointless. Your just some dude that's full of s*** and really doesn't care about the system, if it was that bad you shouldn't buy it and have some else get inline that is actaully going to enjoy it .
