I've been using DVDShrink forever now, but since it has not been updated in a VERY long time, I was wondering if I was missing out by not using CloneDVD2 or Recode2 (I have it, but I only have Nero 6, though I did the update for the latest Recode2 for Nero 6). So, should I just keep using Shrink with all the new software that is out now and still being updated? I want the best quality backups, I don't mind waiting... No Rebuilder please (too complicated and expensive).

Thanks in advance,

Continue with DVD Shrink behind AnyDVD. CloneDVD2 will do a few different things than Shrink but many people like the quality with Shrink better. Particularly for higher compression rates.

I agree with Bilbo...I use AnyDVD behind either DVD Shrink or Nero Recode.

I use AnyDVD behind Shrink and burn with ImgBurn.

All that CloneDvd2 does is eliminate an extra step to burn.

Thank you,

What's the diffrence between Recode2 and Shrink? Should I use Recode2 over shrink (I have the latest Nero 6 Recode2)?

Can't say. I use neither of these programs, only CloneDVD2.

Nero Recode is basically the newly designed and improved version of DVD Shrink. It is from the same author who created DVD Shrink and now left to work for Ahead (Nero).

With Recode, you'll get a little better quality than DVD Shrink. Furthermore, it is nearly twice faster as well. You can simply use "AA + HQSR + Assign Best Quality to Main Movie" or simply use the new Recode AEC changer by Solomon, which does the same thing as DVD Shrink "DA + AEC + Max Smooth/Sharp."

Damn, I feel bad now, especially when I come across a thread like this; CloneDVD2 vs DVD Shrink vs Nero Recode. Simply because I first started out with DVD Shrink, but times has changed. Meaning, I'm leaning more toward Nero Recode when it comes to "quality and speed". However, I still got tons of love for the once beloved DVD Shrink.

Best of luck!!

Got to agree with ya Alkohol, Recode does do a better quality job than Shrink, and usually about twice as fast. you will not hear me knock on Nero.

Do I need to buy Nero 7 to get the latest version of Recode? I only have Nero 6 latest version...

I rarely answer a question because I feel like a novice compared to
some of the experts on this site. However I have used DVD Shrink
and Any DVD for a long time. I use IMGburn for burning. I have
used Nero and several times it has caused me major and expensive
problems. Sometimes the Nero can conflict with other programs. I
have not found the DVD I cannot copy using Any DVD, Shrink, and
IMGburn. Also this combination burns discs that are compatible with
more of the DVD players that one might use. The AnyDVD is more than
worth the cost. The other two programs are free. Can't do much
better than that. Also I have found this combination of programs
usually gives perfect burns even on most of the cheap DVD blanks. I'm
not arguing with any of the experts that say Nero is better. Just
saying that this combination really seems to work for a non computer
geek.

Agreed. I would go as far to say AnyDVD, Shrink and ImgBurn are about the best combo one can have for backing up dvds.
