I'm not sure I'm in the right forum, but since I use this with
Shrink I put it here.
Since 12/21 I have been having a real problem updating AnyDVD.
I bought this program for the second time on 08/03. At first
the updates were real easy like before. Then it started to
not have the updated program after I rebooted-it was just the
same version as before. The only way I could get the new
version was to uninstall AnyDVD-Reboot-run ccleaner-reboot-then
download the new version and double click my key file. That
worked for a while now I am still getting the old version that
way too.
This is the 2nd time I have purchased this program.
If it is any help this is what ccleaner says before I fix the
issues.

I couldn't find that on the keyboard.)

I have contacted Slysoft 5 times and so far have gotten nothing but
a repeat of the way a download of an update usually works. No help
with the problem.
The only thing that was done to my computer about the time this
problem started: I took it into the computer guy at a local computer
place to have the firmware updated on my DVDwriter and he updated
Nero from 6.0 to 6.6. Could the Nero be causing this problem?
I need help! Don't know where to start trouble shooting this one.

Shardel,
Sounds like you are emailing the wrong person. You either need to email Tom or James at Slysoft for assistance. Check your PM for a thread that can help you. Maybe CCleaner is removing more than it should or your serial number has been listed on the crack sites.

Hi.

I don't think here's any way that Nero could be causing your problem. I think it's more likely there is another low level driver causing the problem or a corrupted registry. When is the last time you reformatted your hard disk and reinstalled the OS? If you've run a registry cleaner and that didn't work, I'd backup whatever data I wanted saved (including the AnyDVD key) and reinstall the OS. Also do fresh reinstalls of all the apps you use.

Edit: typos

I purchased AnyDVD today recently after downloading the
trial version. I didnt take me long to know i needed to get it. The version is still the trial version. I got the key, double clicked, and re-started AnyDVD like it said. My version is still 6.1.0.0.The product is registered to me now etc.Should'nt the version be something higher. I literally bought it an hour ago. I was wondering what was up. Should the version number change or will it just automatically update itself? Am i doing something wrong. This is a bit disconcerting. Help greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Shardel, Sorry to hear your having probs with AnyDVD. I've used it for sometime now without a hitch, EXCEPT when I first installed it. Let's see if we can't get you up and runnin' again. Ok, here's what happenned to me.. I downloaded the trial version(did you do same?) I found that I couldn't install the purchased vers until I deleted the old files. I simply made a search using windows and deleted all files related to AnyDVD(check the COMMON files folder also)This time maybe it's best to leave ccleaner out of the equation, it's up to you. I'm assuming you have a valid reg key? So after deleting the old files and then rebooting, install AnyDVD as per usual.. Disc C-program files-slysoft etc etc, then use the registration key(internet active)all should be well. Now here's a tip when downloading an update..I don't save the downloaded file from the download box, I click run the download. This stops the possibility of the previouse version NOT being over written, so when you use the desktop/quick launch icon to start up AnyDVD, the startup icon is pointing to the NEW program file. This absolutely happened to me with ccleaner(nice program and all, i use it every so often myself). One last thing, if you download Zip files and of course unzip them, they will automatically be installed in a folder named unzipped and not in the Program folder, Consequently, the launch icon is pointing to "unzipped" and not "program files". So when you update, the files MAY be installed in program files, therefore every time you click the startup icon you get the OLD vers. I hope I havn't repeated myself too many times and that this info helps out, please keep me posted as others suffer similar probs.

Maybe those nice folks at Slysoft will refund your money, considering.

Cheers for now

Steve.

So your saying uninstall AnyDVD in the control panel, do a search on AnyDVD files and delete and then? re-download AnyDVD from the site? and run the key I got when i purchased it? Im a bit confused here.
Oh and yes i got the trial download first like you. Afterwards i clicked the link to purchase the a license. I really appreciate any help you and others can offer. Is it necessary that i run reg key or can i just start in the control panel? Im a bit frazzled. thanks onya

Not sure exactly what you mean here? Do you mean go into control panel-install/uninstall programs-delete files, then RE-DOWNLOAD AnyDVD (that's if you havn't made a b/up of the .EXE)then use the registration key to activate. You do have a desktop icon for AnyDVD don't you? It's almost a quarter past two AM here, so if I get fuzzy, pls forgive. Oh by the way, getting FRAZZLED is half the "FUN" of computering..LOL...
I'll be here for a while yet so keep me posted, ok?

Cheers

Steve.

I do have an icon for AnyDVD on the desktop as well as the key w/ a little red fox on it.
I am looking at the search results now. Is the executable setupanydvd6100?. Are any of the other files important that are listed under program files? So you are saying to: 1.backup the above file(setupanydvd6100) 2. Goto control panel and uninstall AnyDVD 3. Delete all AnyDVD files but keep a back up of the exe., and 4. Re-boot.

Step 5 should be ? Run the setupanydvd6100 and install ?
and Step 6 : Run the key?

If i re-run the setupanydvd6100, will that not just re-install the old version again?

@bahgee, Yes to what you have just posted.. but do me a favour before going through all that. Please understand I'll do my UTMOST to help out, I'm not here to FRAZZLE you even more ok? Cool.
Pls go to control panel and delete the files AnyDVD, should be almost first on the populated list and around 2.49MB in size. Now reboot, If there are any icons for AnyDVD..bin 'em. Run AnyDVD .exe, use your reg key to activate, And yes you will get the OLD vers, but afterall we're up to vers 6.1.0.2 so your not that far away. If all of the above works, you should have a nifty red fox icon on your desktop, double click it.. now you should see who the s/ware is registered to(phew) If not, don't dispair, re-boot and try the double click on the icon again, if it works..woohoo, then do an update to the newest version, when the file has downloaded, click RUN.If non of the above works, Follow the previouse post just as you said, steps one / six.. but uninstall AnyDVD first, then do a file search & delete(but not the reg key)etc etc.
See how you go. Good luck, here's hoping.

Cheers.

I'm not looking for a refund. I think when this program is working
it is outstanding. I'm just trying to fix whatever problem I am
having in getting the updates. I will look into all the options
mentioned in the posts and will post again on the progress.

Hey Shardel,
I got the fix: Thanks to all who who helped out... This worked great. courtesy of Ripper on this forum

Right, here is what you do. Follow this to the letter:

1. Save your AnyDVD serial number. Eg, write it down.
2. Uninstall AnyDVD
3. Go to Start -> Search. Search for "AnyDVD" in C:// (your hard drive) and find all the left over files. Delete them.
4. Run this regsitry cleaner- ccleaner http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/
5. After running that, restart your PC.After re-start do not open AnyDVD. If it opens on its on shut close it in the toolbar and on screen.
6. Use this to reinstall AnyDVD. Here is the latest version.
7. Run a search on AnyDvd6102-1. Install this. This will allow updates.

Now, don't get yourself in a twist, just follow that. Where you went wrong is registering the trial version, it really messes it up. Don't worry though, it's fixable, just follow those instructions!!

:-)

Edit: Doing all of that is nessecessary!

Ok. :)

I already feel like a pretzel-so much for getting myself in a twist.
How do I know the serial number I'm seeing is not for the trial
version rather than the version I paid for?
Also I'm a little unsure about some steps in the directions. I don't
see any place where you reboot. Usually reboot after an uninstall.
Also are you talking about reinstalling from the Slysoft site? Where
do you run the search for 6102-1?

Shardel,
Your serial number(reg key) is in the email Slysoft sent you as there is no serial number for the 20 day trial; version. If you have the activation e-mail from Slysoft then you are OK. It is recommended that you re-boot after install of AnyDVD
1. Go to Control Panel and remove AnyDVD there
2. You can run CCleaner if you want to
3. Reboot
4. Install the new version of AnyDVD from here: http://www.slysoft.com/en/download.html
5. The email that was sent to you will look like the one below:

SlySoft order number: XXXXXXXXXXX
Dear XXXXXXXXXXXXX,

Thank you for your purchase at SlySoft.com.

This e-mail contains important registration information. Therefore we
recommend that you make a backup of this e-mail.

You will find your license key(s) attached to this e-mail. Some e-mail
programs and internet providers do not allow attachments. In this case
please use the following links to download the license key(s):

1 x AnyDVD: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

How to unlock a product using a license key:

To activate a licence, please save the keyfile to your harddisk (to your
desktop for example) and double-click it. After a restart, your product is
unlocked and registered to you.

IMPORTANT:
Please make a safety backup of your license keyfile(s) on a floppy disk,
USB stick, or CD-R and keep it in a safe place. In case that your system
has to be rebuilt, you will be able to unlock the software again with this
file(s). We cannot replace your license key in case you lost it!

Successfully downloaded 6102. Won't know for sure if the problem
is fixed until the next update. In the past I have managed to get
one update after all this work, but then when the second update
came along it was back to same old thing. Hopefully this time
it is okay.
I do have the two orginal emails from Slysoft saved. I have them
saved in my ISP Mail Center, in a special folder under My Downloads,
and on a CD. Learned my lesson on that one. I ended up buying this
twice because the first time I didn't know enough to save those for
when a problem came along.
Many thanks to everyone who took the time to help me. This web
sites members are the best. The UN could use some lessons from
you all on how to work together.
