Hayao Miyazaki is an absolute god at feature length animes. He directed Laputa, Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki's Delivery Service Porco Rosso and many other classic Ghibli features.

Also great news that Laputa, Kiki's Delivery Service and Spiritied Away are officially available in the UK.

I was just plodding thru and found this thread (cool!)

I actually run an Internet radio station called 'Radio CNOC'. It plays nothing but cartoon music and clips.

It's completely free (I'm just a toon nut). If you'd like, have a listen at http://www.radiocnoc.com

Thanks, I'm glad you liked it!

It's a LOT of fun to run. We try very hard to get all different types of toon music in there.

The research we need to do to find new stuff keeps me off the streets!

Umm..lets see, as I recall, it was a cartoon(calliope), and the old man sat in a chair when the show would first came on, and his dog, a little white dog would lay at his feet, and I think he smoked a pipe and wore spectacles :\ not too sure...but thats really all I remember.

Morna,

The cartoon was called Calliope
The mans name was Gene and his dogs name was Liza
The man would read letters from childred and show their drawings like you said
It was on at 10AM EST on USA network after Cartoon Express
I remeber watching the TV show as a child as well

Has anyone mentioned Bat Fink yet?? He had wings like a shield of steel I think.

I have to say 80's cartoons were so superior to the trash thats on today. They had continuous story lines, fantastic themes and were original.

What was the cartoon where they used to fly a plane that was a golden eagle.

Something Aztecs I think??

battle of the planets was great! i wish keop could have talked. wasn't the leaders name mark, what was the girl named?
i wish blackstar was still on, i've never seen it except for when i was little. it had a dude that lived in a tree with small elf-like creatures and he had a sword that was 1/2 of a star, and some evil dude had the other 1/2.
Then of course we have the coolest non-animated saturday morning show, Land of the Lost with Marshall, Will, and Holly. and the little monkey guy named chaka, and his brothers ta and tsa. and who could forget the friendly sleestack named Enik. "Holly, you and Will go to the weather pylon and make it rain, it looks like Grumpy is coming in for dinner!"

WelshBoa the cartoon you are thinking of with the Aztecs and the Golden Bird is The Mysterious Cities of Gold.

The theme tune went like this:

'Children of the sun, see you time has just begun'
'Searching for your ways'
'Through the Mysterious Cities of Gold'

Quality cartoon as Esteban searches for the mysterious cities of gold over 39 fantastically animated episodes.

You all remember some of the coolest cartoons,... but you all overlooked one of the best. It was the Silverhawks. They had the best music and unbelievable story line. It was the best. But to be truly an 80's person you have to know and loved Air Wolf, I wish they would bring back Air Wolf. The theme song is enough to make me go bonkers! Even today!

If you want more great 80's cartoon info, check out:

It got everything, almost!

I almost forgot one other!!

Remeber the Bionic Six! That was a short run show but I loved every episode!

Now that's what I'm talkin' about. Heman, Battle of the planets, Thundercats, Robotech (the version with the planes, not the motorcycles) were cool shows. I think that some shows in the 70's were just as good-remember Thundaar the Barbarian? or what about Ultra/ Spectra man? I think one of the the top toons of all time hasn't even been mentioned-SPEED RACER!!!

No kidding! Fat Albert is an absolute classic. Mush Mouth would talk really weird and garbled kinda like Boomhauer does in King of the Hill.

Here's a link to the theme song!

Fat Albert was great. Good all Bill Cosby.

Watching the Green hornet and racing the soap box cars. I always thought it was based on Bill Cosby`s childhood. Which charcater can you see as old Bill?
