You know, I wondered about the French accent, too.
Yeah, Smurfs rocked. Oddly, though, there are no official DVDs or tapes released in English (that I can find) other than the Magic Flute movie. I'm trying to find out just what is commercially available. I'll be working on getting some of the videos available for download via my site or an IRC channel if they're not available commercially.

Like with any good shows, the smurfs were at its peak in the early years. They started going down the hill when they were introducing new smurfs like Grampa Smurf, Baby Smurf, and the truely stupid Jungle Smurf. Its all about the old skool smurfs like Brainy, Carpenter, Hefty, and Jokey Smurf. Now those dudes rocked!
Quote: Who was the mother of all the smurfs is Papa smurf was the father. Why was there only one female smurf 'smurfette'
Yeah even as a young kid, I always wondered about the smurfs family tree. papa smurf must of never heard of a condom!

I just thought of a couple good shows
1. the REAL Ghostbusters- Classic show, slimer was great.
2. Grafield and Friend- cant get enough of that fat cat
3. and oh yes, Hulk Hogan's Rock N Wrestling- Hulk Hogan and friends and thier cartoon hijinks, a cant miss.
although this was actaully made in 1990, but what about Prostars! I loved that show, Gretzky, Jordan, and Bo Jackson using there "super" hero skills to help the kids. this one is gold!

Loved the Real Ghostbusters.
Fav episodes were the baseball one with Winstone and the Sandman one.
Good news is that some of them are on DVD now. Can't wait until the season one boxset comes out.

ok does anyone remember Tom Slick or Superchicken? They were short that came on during George of the jungle. kinda like how Dudley Doright came on during bullwinkle. Tom slick was great because his grandma made these huge donuts that he would use for tires during a race if he got a flat. Plus the ever present Baron Automatic and his evil sidekick named clutcher. damn i hate being old.

Anyone seen the early episodes of escaflowne
(APOLOGIES for this being off topic)
@darthnip : man i liked the single life to much so well being married and having kids dont think its going to happen in this life time, however i come from a big family and well i already have the insight after changing 1000s of nappies, fixing the little bumps and bruises, and then trying to get the difficult ones to eat, all while trying to keep a shread of sanity. But its all good. The only differences i see are that they are yours and well for me i get to give them back at the end of the day.
Hey how about you start a thread on the new anime and manga thats out.I already email nephilim with new covers everytime i get a new one.
Have a fun day with your bundles of joy

Cartoons of today are really crap.I shake my head in shame. The mysterious cities of gold stand out for me as one of the all greats.truly captivating. And also battle of the planets.after watching 5 mins of the nickelodian channel I wished I had a time machine to take me back to the good old days.
I think cartoonists and animators of today need to look back and see what made the cartoons of yesterday so great and so memorable.

although I do agree that some of those cartoons u mentioned are good.(ninja scroll my fave out of that list).Alot of them are movie cartoons.
Its the cartoons that u used to race home after school just to watch. The cartoons that made u want to see another day and wait in anticipation for the next episode. These cartoons of the 80's werent about crappy money making merchandising, only dishing out new episodes to make another million.it was about great stories and letting the imagination run free and being creative.
I doubt people are going to be talking about their favourite digimon or bey blade episode in 10 yrs time..ha ha.
By the way akira was brought out in the 1988.And ninja scroll is 10 yrs old too.
Im still shaking my head in shame andmerr.
