I have a similar question as the above poster. I just got an older PSP fat 1000 from a friend of mine.
The OFW on it is 3.40. If I follow this tut, will the CFW on my PSP be permanent, or will I have to watch my battery level to make sure it doesnt shut off? Would it be better for me to downgrade to 1.50 than use this method?
I just want to know before I start so I don't get stuck at 5.03 OFW.

hello
i am 13 years old and my dad found this forums and i hoped you could help me with my problem.
i have a psp model 3004 with version 4.21.
i have some games which are not original but it does not work.
i asked the salesman and he said that this psp is a new model and there is no software for hacking and because i am not really into these things could you please explain to me step by step.
once i asked a man about it and he said that there is a software that works with games which are not original but he said that the psp should always be on standby and it should have full charge or else it would return back to original.
And please when you are explaining could you explain step by step because i am just 13 years old

befor i can tell you about the version the man told you about make a new thread and some one will answer you in a few days
and another thing just to let you know that these version for what i knw can make the psp run iso and cso games not umd games {the psp CDs}
and you must have a memory stick that is supported to magick gate
you can find that on the information when you put the triangle on memory stick put information and you will see if it is or it is not
if not buy one that does cuase i have one that dont support magick gate and tried the whole thing over and over and nothing happend
i bought a new one and it worked
and these are the way
hi look that version is the 5.03 the man told you about
this version can play all games for what i know
but does have a fatale error you have to put it on sleep mode at all time and it doesnt downgrade to 4 ver or other you will brick your psp if you tried to downgrade the psp
if you shut down afteryoou did all of this [the instructions} your psp will not play iso and cso games unless you did the whole thing again
before we start downlaad the 5.03 version on your here is this web download it from it
http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/1645
after you download it go to your psp and put it on this root
{h:/psp/game}
after you put it go to games from the psp and run the 5.03 ver
after that you have your psp 5.03 ver
and to make your psp run iso and cso games follow the steps
first download the chick hen r2 from the top of this thread and then go to youtube
{YouTube - PSP-3000 fw 5.03 ChickHEN R2 installation with 90-100% Success } [put this on google]
and and see how it is done or
I CAN TELL YOU
1-download them into you psp on this root:{h:psp/photo/chickhen r2}
the folder named [photo] does not exist you have to make it
after you downlad the chickhen r2 put it on the photo folder
2-then there should be a [H.BIN] file with the chickhen r2
put is on this root h:
{let us pretend that your memory stick is called h}
with folders that are called {psp-video-music-photo-iso-mproot} not in them beside them ok
3 try this method to run the chickhen r2
after you done all the above stuff go to your psp and open folder you should see a folder called chickhen r2 let the folder upload the folders picture and then you enter the folder dont let show you the images{uploading them} just go to the last one
now you have two options {not that you can choose either}
the first is :your psp is going to shut down or the second your psp will have somesort of green screen and then the psp will reboot it self and you have a sucsess and if you dont just repeat it tell the green screen shows up {dont give up hope}
after that go to the psp setting >>system settings >>system information >>>you will see that your psp version is going to be
>>>>>>>> 5.03 chickhen r2 <<<<<<<<<<
and then you are on the right track
and the last thing download the cfw enabler from above {in the beginning}
and just put it on your memory stick on this root {h:/psp/game}
and the psp will tell you to flash and you say yes
and you will have a psp that can run an iso games
and remember not to turn it off

hi
i have psp 2004 pb with ofw 5.03
can i follow the steps for running cfw on my psp without flashing it even if i have hackable motherboard?
i am very afraid of flashing bcoz i had once bricked a mobile by doing so.
i want to run cfw in the safest way
also plz tell me the way which i mentioned above will degrade my psp's performance or not.
The firmware will be "installed" to the RAM or just the XMB and the "environment" which was running earlier will be replaced by the patched one?
would the tiff image hack if run many times brick my psp anyway?
im new to psp so plz neglect if i spoke something odd
thx.

This will permanently install CFW onto your PSP
ChickHEN must be enabled.
-Download Recovery Flasher 1.60 HERE.
-Download 5.0 OFW HERE.
-Copy the Recovery folder to PSP/GAME .
-Also copy the 5.0 official update renamed as 500.pbp to PSP/GAME/RECOVERY folder .
-Go to GAME and run the program and install 5.0 M33-6 !
[/b]
Thankyou for this massive guide, however I do have one issue at this last step. I keep getting an error and no custom firmware installed when I run Hellcat's recovery program. I have ChickHEN enabled.
Do I need to download 5.0 M33-6 at some point or is that already available in Hellcat's program?
I have a slim 2001 and have followed all of the steps to a tee!
Any help will be appreciated.

Apart from Chicken taking a few try's, it went without a hitch
PSP slim and light (2003), T 85 v1 motherboard, 4GB Sandisk Mem Disk Pro Duo.
Running back-up ISO/CSO's, there is a sound issue with Tekken, trying the alternative ISO driver.
Nice tutorial, very straight forward with no gobbledygook.

I plan on buying a PSP 1000 this week.
I take it that 5.0 M33-6 is the newest CFW, so since it is the newest, will I still be able to run Emulators and HomeBrew apps flawlessly?

Thanks for this brilliant guide. I created an ID here just to say a thank you to the people out here. However, I have two questions and I'll greatly appreciate if someone can give me an answer :
By the way, I have followed these instructions on a PSP 3004 that came with a 4.21 OFW. I installed CFWe 3.60.
1. When the CFWe is installed for the first time it says something like "installing on flash" or something. Is the CFWe being installed on the PSP's internal flash or the memory card? Also, when the PSP is rebooted, chickHEN is not in control. Is it the OFW then running the PSP?
2. Is it true that if PSP is running on ChickHEN and on CFWe, we can't run UMD discs?
Please reply. I think this is the best place I can get an answer!
thanks,
Adi

1. I think some small settings might be written to flash (not sure about the flash part) but mainly the CFW is loaded onto the RAM. That is why it's gone when you restart the PSP and yes you are back on Official Firmware. Perhaps pspgamen can clarify as to what CFWenabler actually does to PSPs internal software.
2. Try it. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to. Running a UMD can't hurt unless you ran an OFW update from the UMD. You wouldn't update anyway (assuming you have 5.03OFW) if you wanted to keep using your PSP for CFW.

Thanks for your reply Hedberg. I also think that there ought to be no change is the Flash. When I was installing CFWe 3.6 for the first time I was in a tight spot -- I didn't know what to say to that prompt there which said to press an "OK" or something like that to writing on the flash. As far as I have seen, all the guides say no to anything that writes on the flash for PSP 3004 (Which is what CFWe's installer claims)I am a little surprised it has not been a subject of discussion in the forums. It worked for me though... and Yes I did this on OFW 5.03. I should have mentioned that, sorry.
Still it will be great if pspgamen answers that! thanks!

No problem! Yeah that step in using CFWe is kinda weird but it only does that the first time which is why I think it only applies a small change to the flash. Rest loads to ram, but who knows, I'm just happy it works.

Thank you
ya, your PSP can read .CSO games, you can compress an .ISO file to .CSO with a program like UMDGEN or PSP ISO Compressor.
good luck

Hey, so feel free to call me stupid, but:
I've got 5 images in the chickHEN folder on my psp: top image is a tiff, and bottom 4 are fried-eggs (sunny side-up... ugghh) all gif files... your directions say to nav to the bottom.. the bottom gif does nothing.. no freeze, no flashing lights... the top 3 gifs and the tiff freeze the psp when I open the images..
Which one do i open?
I have OFW 5.03 and a classic psp
thanks
