Which one is better? 2 of my friends say that the 360 is better and I should get that instead of a ps3, but im very very attracted to the ps3, because of the games coming out (MGS4,FF13,DMC4,RE5 etc) and because the playstation is what I grew up with and what im used to. Whats your opinion?

Well, you're asking it in a great place! I have to say I have a PS3, but I am slightly envious of the 360. The only reason, is because my friends have the 360, and I can't play games with them online. Not only that, but there aren't a ton of great games for it either. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of good ones, and great ones coming out very soon. Not to mention I can play any PS2 game, and that is one huge library, with games as cheap as $5 at trade-in places. Other than those things, I think you should go with PS3. Sony is famed for their ability to keep a console going. Look at the PS2... The hardware is great, and they offer so much functionality right out of the box. There are firmware updates at least once a moth, it seems, and the web browser is great. Alright, its not perfect, but I can download podcasts from websites and watch flash vids. I think PS3 is a very wise investment. I can continue to ramble if you want, lol!

Cool a civilized conversation about the two consoles. I have a ps3 and love it. I thought about getting a 360 at one point but the only thing I saw wrong with that is that most of the 360 exclusives will come to pc as well, and with games for windows live you can play with xbox live players. The ps3 hardware also has a lower fail rate then the 360. As soon as devs start taking the time to make quality games then the ps3 will blow the 360 out of the water graphically. The 360 just doesn't have any extras that the ps3 doesn't that I would need. The 360 can be hacked though. The Live service is a great online network. Also let me add HALO 3!!!! As far as games go in my opinion it may have more games but no true blockbuster exclusives except for Halo 3 and gears of war (that is coming to pc in November). The choice is yours but I will say PS3. The only problem with you asking that question in this forum is that you are going to get a lot of biased opinions for the ps3.

Yeah your right I should post one in the 360 forum aswell. I saw a PS3 in real life for the first time yesterday and I must say it looks better than the 36. The only thing im not keen on is that from what I could see it doesn't have a cd tray which comes out and it looked like one them ones you put the disc in and it grabs it. Will this harm my disks in anyway?
But other than that theres a 95% chance im getting a ps3 instead of 360, I also like the free internet, which I thought was just internet not online gaming, but now I know its free for online gaming aswell which is amazing. I only get £30 pound a week off the goverment for going to college and I dont want that paying for xboxlive, because I could save it up and get new games and stuff with that money. I know you pay for psone games and stuf on the PSN but do you have to pay for updates for games? and if so how much is it normally?
I've rambled on a bit, but i'll post the same topic at the 360 board to get a better understanding of both consoles, because to be honest I dont know that much about the 360.
Thanks.

The disc slot obviously won't damage any disc. Also, no you don't have to pay for game patches. If you mean content, that depends on the developers. Microsoft makes developers pay to put content on their server (I believe) which is why even if they want to make their content free, it is very hard to. Downloadable games vary from $4-$30(US), but there are lots of free demos and videos n stuff. I assume you've heard of Home. I hope that made sense to you, feel free to ask more questions.

Thanks. Im not listening to what my friends say about the ps3 anymore, first they lied and said it wasnt free to play online, and it was my friend who said it might damage the disks.
Yeah i've heard of home it looks great, although I wont have any other homes to vist because my mates all have a 360 :D hahahah Oh well. I heard on home you get tropies for things you have achived in a game and other visitors can view your achievments, that will be great. Also is home out yet?
I hope to get a ps3 before christmas to get used to it and them MGS4 comes out early next year :D I almost have enough, in a bout 2 weeks I should have enough.
Oh yeah is it a really big deal if you dont have a hdtv to play it on? My tv is not HD but will it still look good even on a regular one?
Ive did some research and watched videos about this linux on your ps3. What does this let you do? is it like word processing, and I heard you can use it to run torrent programs.
And one very last question. Can you fully customize yor ps3 like you can with the psp?

Thanks again.

Home is not out yet. Sony recently said it has been delayed until 08, but there may still be an open beta around November. I use my PS3 on a standard definition tv, and it fine. You can definately tell a difference though in terms of graphics. As far as customizing, it works about the same as the PSP. You can have wallpapers and such. There is also the ribbon background thing; it changes by month, so it's also like the PSP. Thing is, in the morning, it's almost black, as well as night. I tried to install Linux a while ago, but it seemed like too much work. There was a lot of waiting involved. From what I can tell, it works fine for word processing and such, but don't expect to play PC games on it or anything. There are some ok emulators for it though.

Nah i didnt think youd be able to play pc games on it, The emulators sound good but I already have some on my psp, I dont think ill bother with linux for a while, ill get used to it before I mess about with stuff like that. What do you mean about it being black? is the screen to dark or something?
Oh yeah this probably isnt possible but, can I use my ps3 to get my psp on the internet? or would I be better off buying a wifi max?
What things can I do by hooking up my psp to the ps3.
My sisters mate said that he did it in a driving game and it acted as the rear view mirror! That sounds amazing, but is it true?

I gotta go for a while. When I say it's almost black, its just that it changes brightness depending on the time of day. Not the games or anything, just the BG. The PSP has remote access to the PS3. I don't know if you can use the internet browser from the PS3, but you can do a lot. For example, stream and MP3's or videos to your PSP wirelessly, throughout your house. If you have a wi-fi connection like in a hotel or away from home, as long as the PS3 is on, you can access all your videos and songs. It's really cool. As far as games go, again, its up to the developers. I know in Lair, you can play the game on the PSP, which has a really clear picture, as opposed to your SD tv. Well, goota go.

hi, i had a xbox360 and sold it in order to buy a ps3. why i did that? well, its not the graphix, or the sound or the games ... its (now i bet you'll call me a stupid) because of the feeling. i always had a playstation and now a xbox360 that was a bit weird for me. now i have a ps3 and i am really really happy. why? because of this:

- youve 60 GB hdd
- you can put family pics onto it and have fun with friends watching them
- you have a build in wireless lan (thats gorgeous!!!)
- since you have wifi you can surf the internet in the livingroom or where ever (my wife luvs it)
- you have build in a HD Player
- last but not least the ps3 ist much quieter than the xbox360 so you really can watch movies without getting bothered by noise

of course its a bit expensive than the xbox but now you get it bundled with two cool games and two wireless pads (which you only get with the premium edition of xbox).

well, pal. in my opinion the ps3 was the best decition i did in consoles.

hope this helped you a bit

One thing to add if you were to purchase all the add ons for the xbox that the ps3 has out of the box then you will spend more for thr xbox. Lets view these examples.

1.)You must purchase a wifi adapter for the 360 for roughly $30.

2.)HDDVD player is a $200 dollar add on.

3.)The xbox comes with a wired controller. To get wireless it's going to cost another $40 not to mention that you have to supply batteries for it.

4.)Xbox Live no matter how great the service may be is $50 a year.

Lets say you buy the $400 xbox package and add HDDVD, wifi, wireless controller and a year subscription to xbox live, you are looking at over $700. I blast people when they say "I bought a Xbox because ps3 is too expensive".

I bought a 360 premium package and well, i don't need 1. and 2. For the wireless battery i just bought a charge and play kit. And well... i have to pay more for Xbox Live.

I'm not sure of the cost of xbox live on 360. I was just saying what you get with a ps3 that you would have to purchase additionally with the 360.

They are both great systems with unique features. If you are big on FPS, 360 all the way. Sony does have some big releases coming out soon, MGS and Final Fantasy are making me want the system honestly.

Main factor, reliability. 360 is prone to 3rod, even right out of the box. If that does not bother you (pisses me off personally), then you will be quite pleased with the 360.

This isnt helpful at all I know, but either way you go you will be a happy camper :)

Take it from me, the PS3 is by far the better console.
I own both consoles, and i have to say, i have turned my 360 on about twice since i got the PS3.
Gears of War, BioShock... got alend of them... played them once and went back to my PS3 and WarHawk, countless features this console has, and if you own a PSP... theres awhole lot more to come from these consoles in sync.
Buy a PS3, YOU WONT REGRET IT.

i own a ps3, and heres my opinion:
1. the ps3 is very quiet compared to the xbox360(theres a video of it on youtube)

2. the xbox360 controller requires 2x aa batterys and the ps3 controller dosnt

3. there may not be alot of gd games out on the ps3 but there will be...ow yes

4. xbox360 has a dvd-rom drive...you have to buy the HD DRIVE seperatly...while the ps3 has a BLU-RAY DVD DRIVE....if you google(blu-ray dvd player) they cost £400-£1000 and the ps3 is only £425 and it comes with a blu-ray drive.......so think about that 1

5. the ps3 games are also HD while the xbox360 games aint

6. the xbox 360 has a massive power pack...the ps3 jus has a power lead...no bulcky brick

7. xbox live costs $50 a year i think... the ps3 are bring out PS3 HOME...free of charge

8. the xbox 360 has a standard open and close dvd tray....the ps3 has a slide in... no old fashion tray

9. the ps3 hard drive can be upgraded to a 250gb...even a 750gb(theres a video of it on youtube)

10. the ps3 controller also has sixaxis(tilt contole) the xbox360 dosent

11. you can connect you psp to the ps3 and do varius things....u cant do that with a xbox 360 because theres no xbox portable is there!

12. it has various ports on the front for camera's psp memory cards etc

13. the ps3 xmb is a very friendly menu while the xbox360 is a bit unorganised

i could go on forever

what do you think?

xbox360 of ps3?

il leave that for you to decide

i own a ps3 and its the dogs bollocks!!

take you pick....ps3-bluray disk drive(HIGH DEF) xbox360 dvd-rom(non high def)

????????????????????????????????????????????

1,2,6,8,and 13(I like the 360 inference alot better) are not good reasons not to buy a 360 and on #5,360 games are in HD so what are you talking about?

I saw this, and I thought it was confusing too. I think though, that those are just things he likes better about the PS3, not why he shouldn't get an x-box. He said that this is his opinion, but they are all (for the most part) facts, so I would have to conclude that he means that these are things that he likes about the PS3. Also, I disagree with you about the power brick. Sure, its not the biggest deal ever, but in some circumstances, it could definitely be a huge drawback to have such a big (and hot) item around in your room. Now that's probably a really rare case, where they don't have very much room, but I could see it possibly being a problem. (I wish I was of another nationality so that I could say 'cheers' at the end of my post, but it's just so not me. There should be some way of letting people know your being nice about something, not harsh. Maybe 'Peace.') - Peace

well to start i hppe u don;t make your desicion based on price range.. everybody says ps3 is over price but in reality it cost the saem thing. add the wireless adaptor and the hd dvd player to the 360 and you probably be paying more than a ps3 since that is an extra 300 dollars. On the other hand yes 360 and tons of sweet games like halo 3 which is sweet and gears of wars. Not gonna lie they are SICK games and ps3 currently don;t have. but the sad reality is that the 360 will need a replacement in the next few years.. games are getting massive due to the graphic content.. eventually you going to need to start swapign disks to play your games. On the other hand sony currently has a few good games.. yes not as many as the 360 but they are getting there.. same thing happened with the 360 . when i picked it up i was still playing halo 2 because they had nothing. Playstation is comming with tons of software and by that i mean real games not the crappy one you get from the online store. Also if you like to play online againts plp is also a good investment since it is free. If you don;t care about keeping game score or any crap like that then youll be fine but if you are one of the guys who want to see your name on a list then go for the 360.. personally it doens;t really matter for me, i got online and play some rainbow six vegas, kill some plp have some fun and leave and im not really frustrated bc my name didn;mt appear on a score board. anyhow both are good options but in the long run ps3 will succeed. playstation make harware that last.. just take a look at the original xbox..is dead!!! ps2 still sellign strong. eventually we will get an xbox 720 while we still be playing with the ps3!!! lol anyhow hope this helps

I get sick of hearing people saying that after you buy the 360 and the HDVD player you end up spending the same amount of money for a PS3.
The fact is that people aren't buying a console to watch movies on, they want quality games and many to choose from.....period. By the way things are
looking regarding the BluRay vs. HDVD war, who wants to take a chance on putting all their eggs in one basket now. I'm not upgarding to high def movies
until a dual format player becomes affordable. It would suck to have a BluRay player and the movie you want only comes in HDVD or vice versa. I also
believe an affordable HDVD burner for PC is way closer to fruition than a BluRay burner because of HDVD's close relation
to a standard DVD, this is also apparent by the reports on how expensive it is for movie companies to produce BluRay discs because of the high cost of duplication equipment.
Regarding free online play vs. 50 bucks per year, the fact is, is that you get what you pay for, a better online experience. Plus the fact that the PS3 is lacking games minimizes the advantage of having free online.

I've gotta admit 360's have their hardware problems which are being resolved in the newer 360 revisions with a smaller processor and added heat sinks. I had problems with the one I
bought in Jan. 2005 and the whole replacement time frame took only a little over a week.

Also, you can't forget that the 360 is mod capable, its comforting to not have to use your originals and risk getting them scratched beyond playability.

The things that pushed me towards the 360 were the fact that I am familiar with PC components and modded the sh!t out of the original Xbox (Evolution X, emulators, and xbox media center), love Halo, and knew that modding the 360 was easily capable. When the PS3 is moddable and has more games, thats when I'll think about purchasing one.

If you are more familiar with Sony, want a BluRay player, and willing to wait for the upcoming releases, go with the PS3.
