Zen, Im glad to see my instructions helped someone. Generally I find the more programs try to automate installations or settings, the more things go wrong.
However, I did fail to mention (though uther people brought it up) that it is best to connect to a USB port directly rather than thru a hub....

Tell me, what drivers do I need and where do they go?
Here's what I have in Windows explorer in C drive:
cellphonestuff>twothings>p2kdriver>windows98>cdma1x.inf, p2k.inf, p2k.sys,USBCDCMOT.INF, USBMDMMOT.INF
Also in the twothings folder, I have a folder called usbdriver and it in, there is:
USB Driver>USB Driver>Win2k(forget this, I have win98) and Win98>Test(forget this for now, i don't know what it's for) then p2k.inf, p2k.sys,USBCDCMOT.INF, USBMDMMOT.INF.
As you can see, I have the 3 files with "inf" extension and the 1 with "sys" on my computer 2 times. Is one of these what I need when myc omputer says it will now look for the drivers for my new hardware (phone)?? If so, then when I click on any of them, it says that it could not find the drivers. Also if so, then should they be just anywhere on my hard drive? I mean, should they be in something more important like Windows or Program Files?
Back to that "test" folder. In it, there are many things. data1.cab, data1.hdr, data2.cab, ikernel.ex_, infor.txt, layout.bin, setup.exe, setup.ini, setup.inx, USBCDCMOT.INF, USBMDMMOT.INF, usbser.sys. What is all this for?
Thanks in advance.

The .sys file is what you need. Simply point the program install to the folder it is in and it will get it.

Hey OmegaWolf,
Excellent work on the post. It all worked perfectly, and I got my phone working on two different comps thanks to you. Now I just have to figure out how to transfer java games, if I can delete the pics/ringtones off my phone that were on originally, and how to get my calendar off my comp to sync with my phone. Any ideas on those? But thanks a LOT for helping us get it to work in the first place. Z

I also have a V551...any suggestions about transfering all the data, games, pics & Downloads from both of these mobile phones to my PC then to new phone once these break or get warrantied out due to defects?

Is it just your mp3 ringtones that don't work, or all ringtones?

I am having a little bit of problems with getting my V180 to work. I have installed the drivers and my device manager recognizes the phone as a working device and everything is fine there. I tried to install the phone tools version 1.23(or whatever version is the older one that works for most people). Once the installation finishes, it says that it detected my phone but it did not recognize it and wanted me to choose my phone from a list. only problem is that my phone is not in the list. I decided to skip that step and install the 3.11. During the installation process for this one for some reason it says that it does not have access to write to an area in the registry cause I do not have permission which is bs. I hit ignore on that one twice and it freezes at the intialization screen like so many others here have had. I have unplugged my phone and the battery tried other USB ports etc. Not sure where to go from here. Any help will be greatly appriciated.

Hi All;
Has anyone tried the Phone tools that Cingular provides on their Website? I wonder if it is just MPT set up there for convenience? It says to remove your current program before installing, and where mine is working, I have been hesitant to try it.
I am using a V551 with Bluetooth to laptop. MPT works, but I have (or have had)most of the items described by everyone else on here!!
If the Cingular set up were better, I would certainly switch to that.
Thanks for any comments you may have.

It is under Business. "Small & Home", then it takes a couple of clicks from there. I can not remember the names, but I think last one is laptop, other escapes me right now? Sorry..
If you do not find it give me a growl.
On Edir:
OK, I looked, which I should have done earlier!
1. Susiness Solutions
2. Small & Home Office
3. Laptop Connect
4. "Get Started" # 3 (Cingular Connect Manager. Software)
Hope that helps.

I saw that, but it looks like soemthing different. It comes with an added service you have to pay for, connecting to the Internet with your laptop

Nay be, not really sure?
I took it to mean that you needed the $20.00 Media Net add on that gives you Internet access & unlimited usage. I am using that already, so I downloaded it for free, but just unsure if I should try it or not. MPT is working "passable" now, i.e. works good once connected. (but, I had been using Dial-up at 26.4, so does not take too much to make me happy!!!)

I downloaded and installed mobile phone tools 3.11 but when I choose multimedia center nothing ever happens. During setup there were 2 error messages about not being able to write some keys (error 1406?) or something. Is this a common problem?

ok. my connection mostly works sometimes i have to disconnect my phone and restart phonetools, but i've gotten my contacts out of it so it has to be doing something.
however:
i really just wanted to get my pictures from my phone to my computer. why won't it work? i tried to work it through Multimedia Studio, and i had to download gdiplus.dll. i got the program running, but it seems to want to connect my phone and computer through MMS. i just want it to use my cable, the bastard. anyways. any suggestions?

This is the image shown when it isn't picking up your phone. Are yo ugoing through a USB hub? If so, don't. Hook directly into the comp.

For what it's worth, mine showed the "Image not available" until I had downloaded all the BVRP & Motorola updates.
Now it shows my correct phone.

When I say not picking up your phone, I mean the image showing. That is not your phone. When all is connecting properly you should see a picture of YOUR phone.

HW and System Info:
Outlook 2002 SP3
Belkin BT USB
Win XP SP2
MPT 3.19e
Phone Motorola V600
When I try to set-up the synchronization wizard to sync Outlook to phone, it locks up after I select FILTER - Synchronize the category contacts. I don't get as far as the MPT software reading the available categories from Outlook and giving me a choice of which ones I want to sync.
I really don't want to have all of my contacts from Outlook in my phone - only the ones I use. But, I can't do this without being able to pick which categories I want.
I already tried uninstalling and reinstalling (going from 1.23 to 2.21x to 3.11 to 3.19e). The MPT software recognizes the phone, is able to read what's in memory, and I can transfer back and forth. I just can't get the filter option to work.
Any ideas about what's going wrong?
Thanks.
