Thanks for any information..

Ok guys I got MPT working, everything is initialized, but when I extract my snippet from a mp3, I cannot save it as an mp3, what do I need to do...I can save it as an amr and send it to my phone, but cannot apply it as a ringtone. Could anybody help me on what I need to do to save my extract as an mp3, so then I could transfer it as a ringtone?

Try using a converter such as Xilisoft 3gp vid converter. I know it says its a vid convertere but will also do mp3's and other supported 3G formats.
Try using that to encode ur snippet and see what happens.
Alternatively use a sound editor such as Cool Edit or Soundforge to create an mp3 sample, then save as mp3 and try again.
Technology is great when it works but bloody difficult to get right!!!!

Hi Jordan...Thanks for all your help. This is really frustrating. I checked Device Manager and it shows my motorola CDMA driver under modems. Everytime I go to MPT it hangs up at the initializing stage and ends up saying something like "hardware failure". When it does recognize new hardware and wants a driver, I point it to the MPT folder but it doesn't find the correct driver. It seems to be looking for both a usb cable driver and a phone (modem) driver. I'm going to try to work on it this weekend when I have more time. Thanks again for all your help.

NP katchoo.
If all else fails frustrating though it is try uninstalling and then rebooting pc twice to make sure all reg entries are discarded, then use something like Registry Mechanic or RegHeal to remove all dead registry entries so there is nothing left in relation to MPT or your phone on your PC. Reboot. Then try the installation of MPT, I've tried the updated version but to be honest I have found 3.11 to be the most stable and functional, others though will no doubt have a different experience.
Take your time with the installation and when you get to the part of installation where MPT is "setting up your phone" do the Device Manager thing.
No guarantees and it is frustrating but a little perseverance can pay off.
BTW are you overclocking your PC? If you are downclock for the installation processes and over clock again when installed.
Good Luck :)

Good Morning...
I just wanted you to know I finally got MPT to work. I had to call tech support and they had me do a master reset on my phone. Once I did that then I could add the Motorola usb modem and device drivers and it all seems to work fine. I still can't get a Mp3 to transfer and work but....at least I can do everything else. Thanks for all your help and good luck to the others.

Well my problems are solved...
All I used multimedia studio for was to create my snippet and save it as a .wav file. From there I downloaded a wav to mp3 file converter. That then made my snippets mp3 format and I then went to mobile explorer and transferred them over, and my option to apply as ringtone was there. Now I can say I am happy with this program and though it's a bit of work, I can do any and everything I needed to now!

I'm glad to see people are getting the software to work well now. When I posted above about the mp3 sample and converting it I meant to say it needed to be changed to a .wav first!! D'oh, never mind, you got there.
Katchoo - follow the procedure for converting snippet to wav then run it thru the convertor to become mp3 - as for tpdotcom it should them work a treat!!!

Hey Everybody, This forum has been soo informative.
I finally got MPT to work. I have a Razor V3, THe full 3.11 version from the site: http://coma.fsb.hr/motorola/files/ Didn't work.
I downloaded the 1.23 version, installed it. Then I immediately installed the update to version 2.16. I ran the program and i got the generic phone to come up. I went to the Menu/Setup and clicked on live update. I let it do its thing. It took about 20 mins of downloading different updates and about 10 restarts of the machine.
After it was all up to date which is version 3.23, I ran the program and it actually worked! I am using a targus Bluetooth usb adapter.

This is for A023????..I have a V551 with USB cable and Windows XP SP1 and another with SP2. I have a very slow connection on both so I discovered the easiest way (for me) to make my phone work with MPT3 without all the updates. Here is all I needed.
1. USB Cable
2. P2k Driver you can find online
3. Mobile Phone Tools 3
Here is what I did
1. Connected my phone to my computer and picked not to connect to the internet to install software instead directed it to the p2k driver and installed.
2. After the phone hardware installed disconnect my phone.
3. Installed Mobile phone tools 3 and start the program.
4. Picked install phone by USB cable and then when it asked reconnected my phone (with phone flipped open and on).
5. Phone initialized and worked however it had a default skin. So, I
6. Went into this folder
My computer\program files\ Motorola\mobile phone tools\backup\skins
7. Deleted the two files in this folder named skin one was a picture file and the other a setup file.
8. Then found the skin (in that same folder) that matched my phone (for me it was the the files called moto-500) renamed that file and its identical setup file Skin.
9. Cut the two files I just renamed and then went back into the backup folder (one folder back) and pasted the two files (Replacing the already existing one).
10. Next time I started MPT3 my phone came up.
