Yeah I bought mine from Futureshop in the summer and I just got my rebate 2 weeks ago. They took forever.

BTW Did you test the media when burnt the memorex DVD. Just cause it burned at 4X doesn't mean the video won't skip.

My question is about the firmware upgrades. I have downloaded the A302 update but in the readme it says the drive has to set on master to install update. Has anyone tried to update with their drive not set up as master. My drive is currently at A300 and is set as slave on IDE channel with my hard drive. I guess I will have to change configuration just to install upgrade?

How long ago was it when u bought your burner and how long did it take 4 the rebate?

I did test the Memorex DVD, it works fine, no skipping (unlike the original), watched Bad Boys 2 from it.

i sent mine back after half of the films and data dvds i wrote with several different brands failed after 1hr 15( video) 3.7GBish (data)which holds up to the tests conducted at cdfreaks.

Replacing it with a Pioneer drive, as I know several people who have them and have no problems with burning or playback.

It took like 6 months to get the rebate. Did you only try 1 DVD with memorex?

I can confirm that Princo DVD-R (white printable surface) marked AGrade will burn at 4x with no problems with A302 firmware.

Hi there, i have found that the drive works a dream with the Shintaro Disks. and also Ritek. But i recommend Shintaro disks. I Have had not one fault unless on my behalf. the Drive works fine with the A302 Firmware and is a beast now... Great drive once you do your research and figure out what you have to do.

I had to update my firmware 3 times within 20minutes of owning my drive. because there was so many updated versions to find.

An "A Grade" princo is noticed by it having "Princo" Printed in the centre of the disk where the clear part is in the middle, dont go anywhere near the ones with only a serial number there all duds. My Mate got a pak of 50 and all 50 were defective, princo dont distribute there disks evenly so that means that you can be lucky and get none the first time but second time round and you might have the worst pak.

hyundaigs, (btw, howcome shintaro over ritek?)

Thanks for that helpful tip! Geez I wish I knew that beforehand. I ordered a sample of 5 and all just had the serial. I tried burning at 4x and it was a nightmare. 2x seems to work fine. I ordered 3 samples from www.blankmedia.ca (ritek dvd-r 4x, arita ritek dvd+r 4x, generic 4x) the last 2 failed for me at 4x (don't know y I even bothered 4x with generic). ritek dvd-r 4x works great! So I just bought a pack of 50 for $80 (total came to $100CAN)

www.blankdvdmedia.com guarantees all their princo to be grade A (50 for $65, total ~$80)

Tuan

What other type of 4x media did you use that didn't burn at 4x, 2fast4u?

I have a Panasonic DMR-E30 that doesn't like my Maxell DVD+R burns. This machine was the reason why I bought the LG in the first place (DVD-RAM).

I have used the Princo Whitetops with the princo in the centre, so far they are the only ones I have found in germany to use 4x speed properly. I have tried Yakumo, sky and skk they say 4x but alas they only work 2x.

G'Day,

I just recommended the shintaro disks over the ritek because in my samsung dvd player (DVD-M205) they work great but the ritek didnt work as good as the shintaro. My DVD Player is pritty old (4 years old) so i guess that wouldnt help but i refuse to part with it. But also its said that with shintaro disks there are an estimated 3 disks out of every 100 that are duds and with ritek there are 4 Disks out of every 100 that are duds. Some handy info.

Bottom line, not one fault yet with the shintaro disk. and the LG GSA-4040B is working great with the A302 Firmware.

Cheers

Well I bought this drive from futureshop for 120 after rebates and bought 3 maxell dvd+rw, 10 pine dvd-r 4x and 10 dvd+r 4x. Before updating the firmware, the dvd+r's burned at 4x noprob and the dvd-r burned at 2x only. so i updated the firmware to the newest update and pine dvd-r still burns at 2x. i havent burned to the dvd+r after the update but i hope it is still goin at 4x. the dvd+rw from maxell seemed to burn at 2.4x and the included dvd-ram burns at different speeds. It will start off slow then it will speed up after a few seconds so cant complain against maxell rewritable media, however keep in mind that all pine dvd-r will ONLY burn at 2x on this drive.

The only other cheap media at a retail store here in scarborough is bestbuy. they have dynex 4x 25 for 30bux after rebates. anyone tried those? and finally as for memorex, I will try a 5 pack of dvd-r's to try them out but a friend got those and they only went at 2x but he didnt update the firmware. ill ask him to update then ill get back to all u guys. damn we really need a master list of dvd types that work.

What is the best program to verify a written CD or DVD .. I've seen people putting screenshots (on reviews of blank media) from Nero ... how do you use this tool to check the graph/curve?

All comments are welcome and if I missed something or copied somethign down wrong let me know. I would appreciate help in hosting this file as it runs off my own ftp and it will be slow if many download off it at once.

DVD-R, they work but only at 2x speed. But mind you I haven't upgraded my firmware yet. Perhaps I should.
