I think that I tried but the message"not enough room" appears.
i have had this problem before i.e the backup(700mb) disc is not big enough but then i D/L a same sized bin and cue (for my own legitimately bought program) and all went swimingly. if the ISO is too big for a legit backup disc, then why is so difficult to do

I think you tried 'Burn CD-ROM'. If you try 'Burn Image' the file 'shrinks' and 747 MB fit into a 74 min (650 MB) disc, and 808 MB fit into a 80 min (700 MB) disc.

Be careful, there are two kind of .ISO images: ISO 9660 images, either MODE1/2048 (rare) or MODE1/2352 that give you no problems, and Easy CD Creator's .ISO Files that ARE NOT 'ISO' standard (I mean International Standard Organization = ISO) and that can be burned by EZCD only!

Hi there all of you guys! First of all i wanna thank you guys for all the work you do here in this site. Second...I have a question that will appear talking about another problem but about this discussion: I got 2 .bin images(including 2 .cue)and i tried them using alcohol 120% , well...everything seemed fine untill when i installed the game , i came across several message boxes like:"cannot write file to destination make sure there is enough space or file maybe in use"-knowing that i have 2GB free space & the files were not used by any program except for Alcohol 120% virtual drive. Does that mean that the file(s) is corrupted-also knowing that i took them as a copy from working ones-and if they are corrupted is there anyway to repair them? I know my questions became a lot but i'm putting faith on you guys...Thank you very much.

Thanks for the help. It works ok if I load onto a virtual drive, but will not allow a burn to disc. From other threads it seems that this patricular piece of software is protected an thus the trouble. Regards

docskell, you always CAN burn an image . If you do that badly (read the thread to learn about proper settings), it might not work but this is another issue. Maybe you have it still mounted? Try unmounting it first.

Xbullet, the image is not necessarily broken (and if it's Safedisc or Laserlock protected, it will seem broken even if it isn't, so repairing it is useless). Do this instead:
1) Scan the image with ClonyXXL.
2) Write down the protection scheme.
3) Use the proper backup settings (see main thread).
4)Before burning the image, you might want to mount the image on Alcohol 120% and install the game from the virtual drive, being careful to set the emulation of the proper protection scheme, if needed. This in order to test the image integrity.

dtioannya, the .CUE file is wrong. Read a few posts above this to learn how to correct it. The full path "C:\... whatever...\filename.ext" must be put between the " " signs.

Dtioannya, please note that 'error in line 3)' seems to warn about an error in the INDEX flag, not in the FILE path. Check all .CUE file.

Thanks for your help Aldaco ,but i want to make the problem clear. Look , I openned the .bin file with isobuster & tried to extract any of the files that come with the error message i mentioned before, and i found that isobuster gives me several error messages when extracting the file like:"sector ##### is unreadable" & gives me a choice from:ignore or abort or ignore all. I hope that makes the problem quite clear for you. Again thank you guys for this great site.

Hi, I'm currently installing Mafia, CD 1 2 and 3. The BIN files are too big to fit on one cd, (yes I read the part about by the sectors but not sure I understand it) so I converted the BIN's to ISOs. Now when I use nero to burn the image to disc it seems to work fine. I put the cd in my cd-rom drive and the cd reads "Mafia_CD_1" without any icon or anything. I open it, it has no autorun or anything I can open. All files just open up to a black window for a couple of secs, or files such as readme's are blank. If this is simply a problem with the file I downloaded sorry for bothering, but if I'm doing something wrong please tell me what it is. Same thing goes for cd_2.

Xbullet, the answer is the same as before (good methods are always good).
Actually, unreadable sectors may happen if the image is corrupt (rare) or if the image is Safedisc/Laserlock protected (this seldom occurs).
In this case, you cannot extract stuff with Iosbuster, it would not work anyway since it would spoil the protection scheme.

I'm quite confident that burning the imame with 'Safedisc' option enabled will work. But mount it and scan it with ClonyXXL first! (or, if you're lazy, post the game name here, someone might help you).

Sombre, you made it all wrong. NEVER convert images! And if they are less than 808 MB they WILL fit on a 80 min CD. Nero will NOT cheat the protection and you'll end up burning coasters.
Read the 'Backup protect CD' sticky thread on the main page. This was written just for people like you.

Oh and uh, what's a coaster exactly? What program should I use to "cheat" the protection program.

A coaster is a burned CD that does not work. As for the software, look at that thread I suggested...
After you've mage your choice all links for the software are in that thread or in the README1ST thread

There are two tutorials for Alcohol, one here:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/20980
and one (for protected CDs) here:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/23699

Just open 'Burn image wizard', load the .CUE and go on... remember that sometimes the .CUE files are written wrong (wrong path in 1st line, the one that begins with FILE "..."). A few posts above you find how to correct them , if needed.

I'm so sorry Aldaco...I should have tried clonyxxl, but i was so frustrated & depressed because i took a long time to get these images and i thought they would be corrupted. Anyway Thank you very much, for i scanned the image & found it was really protected, but i have a little question please if you don't mind: Could i remove the protection without burning the images on CD's e.g.(virtual drives)? If yes or not How could i remove the protection scheme knowing that it says safedisc ver 2.7? Thank you very much for your great help.

I really don't know, in general everything is possible when you deal with digital 0s and 1s but this is only true in theory.

Modifing an image is stuff for really expert people, and modifying an image of a protected CD is an even bigger effort.

I know that (for some PSX games, for instance) some 'patches' exist (do not ask how to get them here, anyway!). They, once applied to a protected image, remove the protection part. But from what I've seen in the Web, this does not apply to PC-game images, which are, more severely protected.
Probably, one reason for this to happen lies in the fact that the installation setup of such CDs checks the integrity of all files that are installed, thus aborting the installation if some file has been modified. Moreover, the protection check is often encrypted in the installation setup, so removing it would be extremely hard.

All PC patches I have seen are applied AFTER a successful installation and remove stuff like, for instance, key checks (request of additional input codes from, say, the user manual) or CD-check (request of original CD).

But I'm not really an expert in this (and this forum is not a place where such hackers would been allowed to post, anyway...)

Excuse me Aldaco, i don't mean to talk about hacking, i took this image from a friend who has the game (by the way the game is: Age of Mythology), but my friend isn't expert too, so he didn't know about protection on it , and all i'm asking is: Is there a way to burn this image on CD's after knowing that i scanned it with Clonyxxl & found that the protection scheme was: safedisc v 2.7 & not v 2 ? i tried with Alcohol v 1.3.5 but it read errors while burning, is there a way? please tell me. and thanks for help.

'Safedisc2' means Safedisc version 2.x.
It is expected that you have read errors, because SD protects the CD by adding unreadable sectors. Alcohol Datatype 'Safedisc2' enables a proper 'fast error skip' that allows you to dump the image faster.

Read 'How to backup protect CD data' main thread (and the pages that thread points at) for more details...

Actually i read the thread you mentioned & understood what you said, but-excuse me for being a newbie- it doesn't talk about burning an image that is protected with safedisc 2, i mean i tried that option in Alcohol 120% and in the emulation options too& i tried to burn it on MSI 50/40/50 but it was the same. i don't know why...i know i'm too much on you but please forgive me for being a newbie :)

Backup a CD is a two-step process:
1) dump an image (from original CD to HD)
2) burn the image (to an empty CD-R)

In Alcohol you have two wizards: 'Image making Wizard' and 'Image burning Wizard'.
Using Alcohol is simple, because all settings are put by choosing the 'datatype'. So if you kniow that the disc is SD 2.x protected you have to run the first wizard to create an image (using datatype Safedisc 2.x) and THEN run the 2nd wizard to burn that image (using again datatype: Safedisc 2). read Alcohol help for more details, it's so simple...

Emulation is not needed, if you manage to burn a 'perfect backup', so leave it alone, so far.

OK, now I got some new ISOs. I keep burning them at 4x with alcohol. Everytime I finish I open the CD put it in my CD-Rom drive. THe title is labeled without auto-run and with no icon for the CD and as before all the files open as black windows then close. I am not trying to burn mafia anymore but a different game. What am I doing wrong? Am I burning "coasters"? Should I just keep burning until it works? I tried it on a different CD-RW drive and still at 4x it didn't work. Do I need to mount an image or something, and if I do what does that do and how do I do it? I'll try downloading the program you guys mentoned and se what protection scheme it has.

I have an ISO image of spearhead which I also own. I am able to mount it(the ISO) on alcohol, but when I attempt to burn it onto a backup(princo 650MB or Octron 700MB), I keep getting an error message saying either "incompatable format" or "unable to load image". Blindwrite also fails to burn with similar message "unit will not give exclusive rights".The image was made with alcohol.
I have just bought a sony dru500A. Is this burner the problem? I also have a best burner which seemed to do ok previously but I have not tried with spearhead (it's now on a different machine).
P.S. Similar messages trying battlefield

Sombre, mount the image in order to scan it for detecting the protection scheme, if any. THEN decide which software suits to you. Unmount the image and burn it.
Did you read the guide here?
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/23699

Docskell, did you left the image mounted? If so, unmount it.
BTW, MOH Spearhead: Safedisc v. 2.80. Battlefield 1942: Safedisc 2.60 or 2.80 depending if version 1.0 or 1.1.

Alcohol 120% with Datatype=Safedisc2 is the definite choice. Did you read the guide here?

Yes. I have had previous success. I was wondering whether there waany known problems with the sony burner. I'm using firmware ver.2.
I might try the other writer, otherwise i suppose it may be a corrupt image.
